Hopefully CoH2 has wargear that increases the chances of pgrens to not get gibbed by a sedan sized shotgun shell.

Just had a great game double PE vs mixed allies on Duclair. Hotchkisses saved the day. They really are really good if you rush them early since they can beat M8's and Stuarts and can handle infantry pretty well. They are not as devastating early as the P4, but with the Stukas they are more versatile later on to deal with blobs and emplacements. I had two with more than 30 infantry kills and a few vehicle kills. Also with the upgraded gun two of them can surprise sex a Churchill, which you cant with the P4. So its really a good unit that requires a lot of micro to get around its fragility.

'Handle infantry pretty well' is definitely not how I would describe the Hotchkiss, especially considering the unit it replaces.

I think the only legit use for them I've found is to stop a Churchill rush, and I'd much rather have a Marder for that.

The P4 becomes a veterancy piņata as soon as Americans get stickies or Brits get piats and button. The Hotchkiss can effectively kite away from both and rain down stukas on the blob. Watch the replay.

I'm not really very good at CoH, so take anything I say with a pinch of salt, but:

The thing which gets me about canister shot is that you could nerf it so that it could never kill the last man in a squad and it would still be really good. And that's a pretty massive nerf.

CoHO only had one redeeming feature and that was automatch. Every other aspect of CoHO was steaming piles of poo poo. They removed PE AND THE BRITISH and it was still a broken, buggy, unbalanced piece of poo poo.

While it was "fun" to rush a house in an uncapped sector and set up a forward base that also healed, it was broken.

While it was "fun" to have Registered Artillery lock down the entire middle of Montargis, it was broken.

While it was "fun" to have eight calliopes on the field alpha striking the poo poo out of everything....you get the point.

That's not touching starting pios with shreks, starting rifles with bazookas, starting jeeps with artillery, flare, artillery bazookas....gently caress that game was broken.

Uh, that was hardly the most offensive use of Reactive Artillery. We actually called it down on that poontanerang guy's base on Route N13 (since it could fire into enemy territory within its radius) and blew up his HQ with it. That was when he really went off the deep end on the beta board.

If they could have just given a Vanilla CoHO mode, I'd still be playing. All the MMO/F2P stuff was poo poo and ruined the game, but having a version of CoH that people were playing and it worked was great.

The problem is that they have to monetize it somehow and I don't think anyone's really figured out how to monetize a free to play RTS game yet, except maybe Age of Empires Online. But it's hard to sell extra armies when you've only got the assets for four of them and there are no mirror matches.

I play it on lans or with personal friends. Most online games are no population cap/annihilate games that end up being a kind of race to a mutually assured destruction of 105's, artillery firebases, Katuyshas, Priests, 25 Pounders, and Hummells.

edit: the 105's and 25's always win because there's no limit to the population cap, whereas the call-in stuff caps at three. Play two or three of those and you'll weep.

What was that one jeep that could call in artillery strikes again? Recon Jeep? That thing was hilarious(ly broken). I also miss Stormtroopers running at full speed while camoed that was always great too.

Also that one Blitz artillery strike thing that you could research to strike in the same spot after 60/120/180 seconds or whatever that sounded kinda cool at first but in practice was really there simply to grief your teammates and/or yourself (whether by accident or not).

Hey all, recently I've had some troubles with Brits in matches. I'd usually go T1 + try and lock him down with MGs until someone suggested to skip straight to T2 and build grens and paks, vet up the grens and use assault grenades. This has worked very well, however I have some questions.

1. Stalling for T2 usually means he gets heavy map control until my Grens come out, but usually my Pak + shrek deal with any fast stuart and the grens mop up the infantry. Is there any other tactic I should be aware of?

2. Should I be getting Storms over Grens? They have 60 HP more, is this worth the extra 75 MP? I've noticed I rarely build medic bunkers so my Grensquads are all manually created. Also I presume double LMG is better over range than double MP44.

My favorite thing was how the special field pioneers could stealth in cover even when building or salvaging so I would put sandbags in the middle of a minefield that they never saw deployed in front of their base because both mines and pios were invisible, or setting up a single sandbag so they could cloak breaking down all the vehicles on the map for munitions.

Flammenwerfers. Brits die in droves to it and LTs being dead flaming bodies will never let stuarts be built. I cannot stress how much rage it induces when their Lts who take 3 sniper shots can die in a second from one lucky burst. It also toasts their emplacements extremely quickly.

I wouldn't recommend going all stormtroopers over grens against brits, iirc they cost 2 pop each which adds up fast. Building medic bunkers is very important because of how late the brits get access to things that can destroy it and it doubles as good cover for a HMG provided you do all the normal HMG things like relocating and aggressive advancement in tow with infantry or vehicle support.

If you can successfully pull this off, you've usually trashed the absolute poo poo out of him, killing off his first few Lts, gained map control and generally in a good position to finish them off, their downfall can start as early as the first 15 minutes of the game.

A nice HMG/flamepio coverage can leave you vulnerable to bren carriers but as I have learnt from buffbutler, two bikes and a pio squad do really well against carriers and infantry squads in general who have no HMG teams to protect them.

Samopsa
Nov 9, 2009

My basic strat vs brits:
- build 4 extra pio squads straight away. Start capping the map, avoid enemy squads. You have loads more units so just run away and begin backcapping with another squad.
- With your last pio build a bunker, pref. covering your own cutoff point. Upgrade to medic bunker asap.
- When you hit the fuel/mp req,build T2.
- Build a halftrack, followed by the kampfkraft, followed by a grenadier or a a pak, depending on what your opponent is doing.
- Put a piosquad in the halftrack, use the awesome machineguns to kill and supress poo poo. Only bren carriers can damage HT's at this point, watch out for them.
- Now onwards: if your opponent is infantry heavy, go grenadiers with vet 2 (at least, moving up to vet 3 if you have fuel to spare). If he goes tanks, build an extra pak at least. This should effectively counter almost anything he can throw at you. Give 1 schrek to each gren squad eventually.

This is the slow and steady approach. You won't be able to really steamroll him, but your units are way more cost effective and he will have no hard counter. You can mix in T1 later for snipers/mg's, or T3 for stugs/nebels, but it's all gravy on the grenadier base.

This worked pretty awesome, I had no idea halftrack MGS suppressed so hard Am I right in the knowledge that rifles do more against suppressed/pinned targets than other weapons.

Suppressed units take less damage from HMGs which is why if a pack of rangers fire up away their suppression they can be mowed down completely if they don't get out of the cone of fire.

Suppression literally saves their lives, the HMGs damage output is restricted by how fast it suppresses a squad meaning it will kill the first few guys extremely quickly yet teeters off just as fast.
Pinned units are vulnerable to grenades and flamethrowers because they won't try to get out of the way but I don't know how other damage interacts with them.

I believe pinned units get the same defensive bonuses as suppressed units BUT after they've been pinned for 10 seconds they suddenly suffer 1.5x received accuracy and 2x received damage, which is absolutely devastating.
