How's the online population right now? I've been playing the DOW2 retribution beta but i feel tempted to come back for some CoH. DOW2 is fun, but CoH provides the same feel of combat while being a much tighter game overall, and I just feel that DoW2 was kind of shoe-horned into an engine that didn't really suit it (mostly with melee combat). Are there enough players online nowadays to make finding a game not an exercise in frustration????

Automatch queues are generally about a minute.

Custom games, it all depends.

So i got the CoH beta client but I see no custom games in the lobby, and the PLAY and automatch buttons are greyed out. I can play vCoH just fine with no problems, any reason the beta isn't working?

E: Also, even though I have both opposing fronts and the original CoH, the game is telling me i need to buy tales of valor in order to play Americans or Wher. What the gently caress relic?

You probably don't have all your keys linked to your account.

The beta is only for playing custom games, and very few people are doing that. You basically have to round up some people and organize games yourself. Unfortunately we kind of stopped doing that because Roumba is a big whiny baby!

After playing a few more retail beta games and sorting through the barely literate musings of Gamereplays.org, I kind of wish they'd just go back to leaving CoH alone. I'm not sure why anyone decided that engineers needed better suppression resistance, but Wehr is absolute dogshit in the beta right now. Not only are Paks/Pumas (the units most people lean on right now) much worse, but they've somehow managed to make MG42s even more irrelevant with the goddamn engineer suppression change.

Just increase the cost of Kangaroos to 500mp/100 fuel, fix M18 camouflage/Hetzer vet and call it a loving day.

My guess is that it's CoH2, though I can't say I'm excited. After witnessing the clowncar trainwreck that is DoW2, you know it's going to be a letdown.

And yet flame engineers are still really loving good when used properly and are very often the first thing a US Player spends his munitions on. It's not as if flanking an MG42 positioned inside a building is difficult on most maps.

The Panzerjager Kommand change is dumb. They basically increased the cost specifically to slow down the PE AC rush, and you're supposed to recoup the savings on the Marder unlock (lmao) and Group Zeal. But if you have half a brain and skip the Marder unlock, it's effectively just a giant gently caress you for anyone who wants MP44s and Group Zeal.

I agree that the T1-T3 AC rush is a little too good in beta with AT Grenades being decent now, but they should have just increased the fuel cost on the drat AC. What a lousy change.

The Marder is still garbage, in case anyone was wondering.

I believe that it still benefits PaKs, but that's it. Oh, and Stuka cooldown.

It's loving stupid because bikes are literally loving useless mid/late game now. If they don't have a chance to dodge bazooka/RR/57mm fire, how the gently caress are you supposed to take out Vetted US snipers?

Check out the compiled list from the previous beta updates that I linked to in that last post. The Puma change went through like 1-2 beta updates ago. Rangers clean them up in the beta; Infantry is a real strong doctrine again.

They should probably get rid of vehicle vet and put the affected units under either support or armor.

You're right that the Jeep has the same problem, but the US Sniper is really a lot more valuable than the Wehr sniper. Wehr has smaller squads, elite armor (snipers have 100% accuracy on elite when it retreats), and dependency on fixed weapon crews.

Also, the Wehr sniper can effortlessly be pulled out of camo for easy countersniping by a Recon Run -- or even just strafed if munitions income is high and you don't give a gently caress. And then there's the fact that the Vetted US Sniper has a better chance to score a hit in a sniper war due to his received accuracy bonus.

FWIW the PaK change is pretty nice for the Jeep, especially in conjunction with the US Mortar buff (reduced setup time). PaKs are probably gonna be set to hold fire a lot more.

This patch is quit big @ 1.6Mb/s.

Riflemen get a bonus to earned experience (i.e. faster veterancy) when you research Stickies and BARs. The way it works now, they also get a bonus from the Supply Yard upgrades that reduce manpower drain. The change basically just shifts all of the bonus into the Supply Yard upgrades.

Basically they're just trying to make Riflemen a little bit less dominating in the early/mid phase without making them poo poo in the late game. It's not a bad change, but I'd rather they just address the problems Wehr early game has in the beta right now.
