This is still the most well-made, enjoyable RTS I've ever played, even if the balance is total balls, just because of the infantry mechanics alone. And the tank mechanics are cool too.

Hey I'd want an invite to the steam group. Maybe once try to play against a human. http://steamcommunity.com/id/aegian Edit: Any beginner who wants to play? Had my first game, Werch vs Brits. Some thoughts: I felt all the time on the defensive, screw up with the motorcycle and read about the pio spam. Didn't know how to play that strategy and maybe Blitz would have been a better election. At the end the Stug spam was a better idea but the game was over, next time pay more attention to VP. It was a really exciting game, now I see the fuss about CoH. So if anyone oculd watch the reaplay and comment that would be nice. http://www.mediafire.com/?pnpf7ch74a16jbd benzine fucked around with this message at Dec 15, 2011 around 22:42 |

benzine posted:So if anyone oculd watch the reaplay and comment that would be nice. My main comment here is to commend the matchmaking system, you two were a good match. 3 pio->tier 1->bike->tier 2->grens is not a very good start but you need to know why it's not good. The game is like chess, you want to control the board. This doesn't mean camping but it just means you need him to be retreating more than you are. While he retreats, you cap and inch your way up. Once you go too far, he'll be attacking again before you can get replacements there in time and you'll have to retreat. It's a fine line. Some basic things: - Tanks take more damage in the butt than the front. If you want to retreat them, click directly behind and they'll back up. Press shift and do it a few times and they'll backup on your path. If you just order them somewhere far away, they're likely to turn around right there and that gets them blown up. - You need to learn MGs. He was blobbing his guys together quite a bit. One MG can handle 4-5 squads like that easily. - Shreks are not very good. They take a long time to fire, miss a lot and are expensive. PAKs are much more dangerous. - Mines. Just put mines in chokepoints when you have munis for it.

benzine posted:Thanks Ikantski, what's the best way to deal with the Brits? At your level, it's all about MGs, against Brits or US. I'd go something like mg, volks, mg, volks. MGs destroy blobs and new players always blob. This keeps him retreating and giving you the fuel. You probably won't be able to beat the stuart, especially if he camps on fuel but having the map advantage will let you get a PAK out to counter and you can use volks panzerfaust to finish it off if it gets behind. Then get the vet 2 grens/medic bunker. Try to make your bunker near the center, not off to the side. The wehr game is about stalling your opponent until you can get vet. Because you get to buy vet, the grens you buy late game are much stronger than the ones you buy early but they cost the same price. If you can just hold the VPs even or close until you've got vet 3 armor and infantry, you'll have a great advantage late game. Nebels are fun against blobbing newbies too. Just shoot it slightly ahead of the blob, they'll suppress and that usually makes new people do a full retreat.

It is probably difficult because everyone already bought it because of how great it is! I can rarely play any more but my in game name is TeamFortressTwo if anyone wants to friend me just in case, I don't play it through steam because I actually own the discs. Funkwagons are the best unit in the game.

Been playing and some times I win against the Americans but the brits are my problem. In this game i felt like the first 3 min winning gaining territory but then he built a mortar bunker and from there it was me going and going back. Now I see why the brits are hated so much, if anyone wants to see, thanks. Really this is an amazing game, should have bought it earlier.

Can you guys play coh in dual monitors? I just recently upgraded my 23" lcd monitor to a 25" led monitor. Obviously I'm using my 25" monitor as my primary but want to put my old 23" monitor to good use while playing coh. I have a nvidia card GTX-470 with the latest drivers.

I watched that replay and basically all I can say is just play more and you'll get more comfortable doing the stuff you need to do and you'll get faster at it. You don't ever want to fight Brits head on until you've got lots of armor or lots of Vet3 units, so just keep capping around them. Send Pios into every corner of the map capping poo poo and force them to split their forces.

I played a CoH game after having played starcraft 2 for the last year and I'm torn. SC2 sucks. I hate that game. Mineral collection is stupid and managing an economy detracts from what I believe to be the tug of war combat potential out in the field. Just, CoH feels so counter intuitive. Hotkeys don't make sense. It seems as though a hotkey can only be one thing. With SC2, I can have the same hotkey used through different units and different structures. But if I want to use a Grenade with rifleman, instead of hitting G, I have to hit N? Don't get me wrong, if I want to build rifleman its R, and build engineers its E, that makes sense. But for the things that are most time critical, activating battle commands requires taking your eyes off of the screen to find the oddly placed key to activate the ability, or moving your mouse to the bottom right of the screen to manually click it. Has anyone experimented with the key combinations? Is there a way to give all the abilities and keystrokes more of a centered intuitive feel?
|
| # ? Dec 21, 2011 01:35 |

While I don't have any links on hand, there are a few different hotkey mods (the gridkeys one comes to mind) that can be used without breaking your ability to play the game online.
