The AOW podcast with Steen is awesome just for the story about Franky The Mobster at the beginning.

Having an amazing feud with Roddy Piper that helped make Piper a huge territorial star and training Latino Jesus outranks crappy promos in a company where nobody cares.

I felt bad for Tommy though, he sounded like he genuinely believes wrestling is hosed. And Colt sounded pretty drat shaken up saying goodbye to Bison

I think Hogan's issue is this: From what I gather, it's very common in the industry for vets to give rookies the advice "watch your back and take care of yourself". When you combine almost unfathomable stardom and a healthy ego with this, you end up creating monsters like Hogan and Warrior, and because both of those guys are people who are limited (which is being kind in Warrior's case) in the ring, they end up becoming very protective of their spots, which is made worse by the fact that they don't have many other things they can do to support their lifestyle.
|
| # ¿ Jan 14, 2012 01:38 |
|
But ego is at play to. Hogan no doubt has heard the snickers about every non-wrestling project he's ever done, and of course he missed out on the Foreman Grill, which was offered to him first. I think for Hulk doing sensible non-wrestling projects means admitting he's no longer needed in the business, and his ego just won't let him. Now because his wife left, he's forced to do whatever he can to make a buck. A decade ago, Hogan would have told a company like TNA to go gently caress themselves.

AOW is the net equivalent of appointment TV for me now. Always interesting, even when I'm not terribly familiar with his subject.

I assume that refers to the fact Alvarez is one of TNA's most vocal critics, and TNA is foolish enough to take that poo poo personally.

For me it's batshit insane Mikey, although I'll have always have a softspot for the following exchange: Mick Foley: We're up against the Public Enemy, Mikey! Do you know what that means? Mikey: Yeah....It means I'm gonna die! Mick Foley: MIKEY LIKES IT! HE REALLY, REALLY LIKES IT!

The bit about MVP literally threatening the writers in a shoot so he'd get called up was amazing. Just proves to me the WWE hosed up by not making him a bigger deal. I also watched that segment he did with Flair that he told people to look up, he's right: It was good stuff.

I feel like Daniel Bryan and MVP could have really good matches with each other. He had awesome matches with Benoit, and there's definitely a bit of Benoit in Bryan (not the part that murdered people, though). That aside, EC would sure as poo poo be a lot better if it were MVP in there and not Khali.

It's funny, a while back when they made the double announcement of the Punk WWE DVD and the new Wrestling Road Diaries, I thought to myself, this show would be even better if Punk was a co-host. Lord knows he'd have the time once he retires, which Punk has hinted on twitter will happen soon rather than later.

Also, Bischoff was interviewer/announcer when Luger was a top guy for WCW in the early 90's and for all we know, Luger might have been a dick to him then. Then again, this is the same guy who claims he didn't raid ECW's talent, then goes on to describe exactly how he did it. I think he's under the impression that because he didn't break any laws by signing Malenko, Eddy and Benoit that somehow, that isn't a talent raid.

It sorta makes sense, given that the original Summer of Punk had him initially turn heel by cutting a promo where he chastised the crowd and Ricky Steamboat for believing in him after he had been a heel for a long time. Interestingly, somebody made reference to this on twitter recently and Punk responded by saying wait and see.

It's funny: Anytime you hear "Well, X is X, what can I tell you?", what that really means is "He's an rear end in a top hat, but he has something to offer, so we put up with it". And even Dave, who is among the most socially awkward guys I've ever seen in sports journalism, gets this.

If he isn't already helping their developmental guys learn, the WWE really needs to get their heads out of their collective rear end. Even though his style isn't typical, he DOES understand the WWE main event match format, and his general knowledge is amazing. Plus, a lot of non indy guys have pretty non-descript offence, and lord knows Regal has a pretty strong knowledge of movesets.

As has been mentioned by Regal and others, Big Daddy was literally so popular that he self sustained a territory basically single-handedly, got people over simply by tagging with them, and was so popular that the loving Queen of England made no bones about being a wrestling fan.

They really should have just flipped the order of the victories, then done a street fight at SS. Or maybe a team match that Barrett wins with chicanery to set up a final confrontation (which, frankly, Orton could afford to lose). Either would be fine, really. Plus if Orton loses the feud, it can provide the impetus for a heel turn, which he prefers anyways.
