It wasn't adds that convinced me to register, it was various sub-forums swapping between viewable & non-viewable. How does the iPhone app treat non-regged viewers?

Also, the avatars do seem too tall in the screenshots posted. Definitely taller than the iPhone app. I'd post an iPhone screenshot for reference, but I'm actually posting from the iPhone app right now, which makes that not so easy. I'll make sure I do it in a few hours though.

And we're using a login screen because doing it in Settings would be kind of weird since we're not storing the password - only the cookie sent back. It's ghetto-OAuth.

If this is still the login screen we're talking about, I'd drop the security pointers text entirely and fix the stretched text on the buttons. This is a really simple UI thing where functionality is the only really important element, but might as well make it look pretty.

Alright then gently caress if there has to be a login screen, make it the frog with his mouth open on the SA blue field. Make a white, rounded speech bubble coming out that says "Awful App". Below put the Username field and the Password field and a login button. When you enter the data and submit, if it's successful the frog changes to , if you enter the wrong data and it fails, change the text to

Can't the ads issue be resolved by just having a little ad thing at the bottom? Kind of how a lot of free apps do?

Does anyone have a link to some good directions on how to compile Android code? I'm pretty tech smart but google didn't seem to return anything valuable.

SLOSifl posted:If you used a WebView for the login screen, would you be able to grab the auth cookie for future logins? It might be a good idea to use the actual forums login page, which would automatically handle the Lost Password functionality, and any other login-related stuff (like forced password changes, etc). The plan was to push to the browser for the lost password button. Since we're using the auth cookie and not the user's password, if the site forces a password change/logout the effect will be the same.

Just throw together a baseline thing and then upgrade it with a patch or something. You don't have to shoot for the sky on the first release

Doctor Butts posted:Can't the ads issue be resolved by just having a little ad thing at the bottom? Kind of how a lot of free apps do? Those ads give money to the developer, which would be a no-no, unless Ferg worked out some deal to have that money to Lowtax or something. I don't think there's any way to convert existing site ads into a tiny ad-bar. How does the iOS app handle forum ads?

That's a lot of discussion about a page (login screen) that you should hardly ever see! Just use regular Android views for the login screen, and if it really bothers someone they can fork it.

Ok nerds, here's fifteen minutes I'll never get back:![]() or ![]() replacing AWFUL ANDROID APP with whatever title we come up with. I personally like the no title version more. Fonts mis-matched because I couldn't tell what the original was. Also potential for frog mouth open when both fields are filled.

Use Iananan's first one then when you press login have it switch to the geocities one but have the frog burping/croaking and the username/password boxes wiggle around from the low frequency frog vibrations until the login goes through successfully.

Has a name been 100% settled on? I think just calling it "Awful" is the way to go. Including the words Android or app seems unnecessary. You already know it's an app, and it's obviously for Android.
