Black Stormy posted:Jesus, you drive REALLY fast then. It's only an hour from my house to yours and it takes us a good 6 hours to get to the Soo. Technically I guess I'm 4 and a half hours from there, and Google maps agrees. I remember last year I left at 11:30 and got to the hotel at 4. For some reason I was thinking it would take me five hours so left earlier than expected, but I forgot I made some extra stops the previous year. I can usually shave a few minutes off that time by taking some backroads and cutting through the run down neighborhoods to get to 475. Once I get there, it's just a straight shot. Plus there is a lot more traffic in the Detroit area. The one thing I hated about working in Detroit for a few months was the traffic. I'll never forget the time I left Downtown during rush hour and it took me an hour just to get to 8 Mile.

Mine was about 6 hours by myself. That stretch from Escanaba to Newberry about kills me everytime, but if there's a Yoopershoot at the end of the drive, I will happily make the trip. And If I have a free couch to crash on at my friends, I'm sort of afraid to stay at the hotel with the rest of you.

You drive to the Soo, shoot a lot of guns wherein someone gets shown how to use their own gun by a 14 year old girl, eat a lot of food, and then have a lot of hot goon on goon action in the hotel hot tub. At least that's what I've been told.

El Diente posted:So what exactly is this Yooper Shoot and how do I get involved? It sounds like a blast. Its pretty much the best weekend ever. The usual itinerary goes like this: Arrive at hotel Check in and unload car Return to 'the circle' in the parking lot to meet n' greet everyone Go to Kitties favorite buffet for dinner Catch casino shuttle to go casinoing Suffer through PvtPublics gastrointestinal fireworks Then we set up camp in the casino lounge and people filter in and out between going to play cards and listen to really bad karaoke. Take shuttle back to hotel Tip shuttle driver for tolerating us SLEEPY TIME! Wake up and get ready for the day Go have hotel breakfast while cursing the baseball team for eating all the sausage and good muffins Load car and form 'the circle' while waiting for IR35 to finish doing whatever he is doing in his secret lair Drive to range GUNSGUNSGUNSGUNS Pizza time! GUNSGUNSGUNSGUNS Range cleanup Drive to Applebys which has been gracious enough to give us their conference room three years running Return to hotel/unload cars HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT TUB Stumble to Walmart totally shitfaced for a sandwich Eventually get to bed SLEEP Sunday is pretty much a grab-bag. We meet in 'the circle' and discuss options for what to do for the day. It usually turns into people pretty much doing whatever theyd like. Naramyth and his wife took a tour of the island, a group of us went and observed White Stormy and I discovering Gravy Ocean, and thats really it. Its more of a hang-out and recover day that we close out with pretty good mexican food and a visit to the best brewery ever. The next day we meet for breakfast and have tearful goodbyes in the parking lot. I usually get anxious and excited for the next shoot about a day or so after I get home.

A shame I couldn't bring half my collection over state lines at this point without doing paperwork (and am terrified of breaking down in a few of the states on the route with a back seat full of guns) because it sounds like a blast.

Plus the 2+ hr drive back the night of the shoot is a harrowing experience at best. It's like you don't really like us. You just show up to shoot guns then leave. As I said last year, just post a couple Canadians on top of your U-Haul to guard your stuff and you will be fine.

I almost bought a Caprice-based hearse a few months back, but I didn't have a place to park it. My garage isn't large enough, and I knew I'd get crap from my neighbors if I had it parked outside. And where do you find a casket to make a gun safe? Right now a cousin has a Caprice wagon I am seriously considering, but he's a few bucks too high for me. It's a shame, it's the same color as my current Caprice, AND has wood on the sides like a proper wagon.
