Caustic Grip edges out for me, but that's only because I tend to be more a fan of EBM stuff in general.

I've always loved the version of Be Careful What You Wish For from The New Backwards, but when I heard the original version from Backwards I liked it a bit more, it's just so beastly.

Also this fan music video is neat:

I think Delerium is good music but it's nothing I'd listen to regularly.

Spotify's daily mixes are really good too. Mine are smart enough to make seperate playlists for EBM/futurepop type stuff and more industrial rock/metal type stuff.

Jehde

It doesn't sound anything like old NIN, it just uses retro sounding synths. Song is alright, better than the stuff from Hesitation Marks, but the video is definitely what makes it.

Another new NIN song:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_g8nAqDu3gI

This time it sounds more like something you'd hear from their How To Destroy Angels side project, more trip-hoppy and noisey.

I actually kinda like it overall. Same sounds and production values we've been familiar with since With Teeth/Year Zero/etc, but a much grittier, industrial composition.

Perturbator is fun and tacky, but his latest album is seriously good with a tinge of industrial feel.

Loving Loss Deluxe.

I slam bought tickets to the Vancouver show. No way in hell am I missing fuckin' Youth Code supporting this phenomenal album.

Dare I suggest that this album represents a renaissance of the industrial ethos for me?

At one point they claim metal is allowed to have vague lyrics, but that Health is bad metal that "does not shred". I don't think they get it. Kinda ironic that their "empty moaning" complaint against the album can be pretty squarely leveled at their review. But yeah their inability to seperate the general concept of slavery from Slavery in the United States is kind of the cherry on top.

Jehde
Apr 21, 2010

No complaints about the jist of the reviewer's opinion, just with how it's presented and rationalized. Pigeonholing Health as metal is dumb.

I've tempered my opinion on the album a bit after some more listens. I no longer think it's some breakthrough thing, bit I still super love the sound they've managed to build, and super excited to see it live. I can get how some will feel Health lost their artsy touch, and that it's replaced with generic angst, but to me it feels like they've found their natural sound that strikes a hell of a chord. The energy on the album is crazy, and they're not relying on hardcore or metal or anything to accomplish it, it's just Health amped up.

I saw HEALTH and Youth Code tonight! Steel Panther was playing across the street and had a line around the block, while I had no problem walking immediately in, buying a shirt and beer, and getting close to the stage. The place filled up halfway into Youth Code's set, but I was worried for a minute.

Also the singer tried to twirl her mic by the cord, but it detached and hit a girl in the face. To her credit, she felt awful and immediately tended to her, but man... A lot of things went wrong with Youth Code's set that was entirely beyond their control. HEALTH was also there and performed to the best of their abilities.

On the bus home from this right now as well. Sara beaning the girl with the mic was pretty funny, and it was great having her amongst the crowd screaming in my face. But yeah their set was a poo poo show, in a sometimes endearing way. Sara going up on the balcony was a bit weird.

HEALTH's set was rad as hell and bordered on sensory overload. My only complaint is that it felt like it was over just as it got going. But I guess the set just goes that fast when the music is going that fast.

I managed to snag a set list, I'll upload it when I get home. Nice mix of Black Magic and Slaves of Fear. Honestly I was expecting more Slaves of Fear.

The energy on the stage eclipsed the energy of the crowd quite a bit.

This is definitely the right place for HEALTH, despite being lighter than the usual stuff ITT. Cheers for the heads up regardless, it didn't make it onto my Spotify release radar for some reason.

Slaves of Fear gets a lot easier to enjoy when you realize that it's contrived as hell, and that it doesn't matter at all that it is. It doesn't push any boundaries at all for anyone, but it makes you glad that HEALTH is a thing and that they put out such a definitive release.

2018, but hi. Managed to skip over them in my industrial journey, but Spotify recommended them to me on a whim, and drat, it is awesome!

Coil is some of the purest industrial electronic music out there, both the sun music and the moon music, so to think they don't belong is a bit weird.

Seeing Einsterzende Neubauten being so high and being listed multiple times is great though, as they are most definitely the epitome of capital-I Industrial.

I kind of wish FLA got some love, being a homer and a fan of electro-industrial in general, but I fully understand why they would not include them.

PHM is overrated synthwave that made TR make Broken as a relation to its reception. It doesn't fit on the list, let alone so high. I get it, being a breakthrough album in inspiration and all that, but even the creator was mad that it wasn't industrial enough, so. :colbert:

Also great to see some industrial hip hop get recognized with Death Grips and Clipping.

Oh yeah forgot about this one. I like it quite a bit, the whole album has a consistent quality to it. It's a really solid approach to EBM for the modern era. I like to describe it as "Joy Division by way of Front 242"

Street Sects owns extremely hard. Never heard them before catching a short set (I went to see SRSQ) and they melted my face off. They're coming back too.

I could go either way, but I do really like the new electro industrial-ish/noise-ish acts like Health, Blanck Mass, and Street Sects. I also genuinely like stuff like Daughters, which feels closer to straight up noise. Don't think I could be bothered to follow a separate thread though.

Is noise just extreme industrial? Like I think about "pure" industrial and I think Einstürzende Neubauten, people banging on metal objects in a warehouse. When I think about noise, it's basically just that, but more.

Jehde
Apr 21, 2010

The remastering refers to mastering for vinyl pressings, not necessarily and updated/improved* version of the soundtrack. Quake CD is still the best way to get those OGGs for digital playback.

*I don't really like the mastering of this vinyl release, at least from hearing from LGR's turntable set up over YouTube audio compression. Sounds much too warm for such a cold game.

Went to a Death Grips show on the weekend. Had to line up with a couple thousand people outside the venue for an hour and a half, and then waited another hour inside while the rest of the people got in. Two hours after the scheduled start time I finally see MC Ride's silhouette in front of a big bright red screen. The sound quality in the venue wasn't that great, but the set itself was fantastic.
