spider_ross.avi posted:caught Boy Harsher a couple nights ago. they were having technical difficulties and cut the set short. they put on a great show despite the setbacks. gus was blowing into some kind of wind controller which triggered some beefy sounding droning note. jae really belted it out in a way you would not have heard on their recordings. they are the most normal and personable people ive ever met too. if they are coming through your town, you should see them. I missed them when they played DC back in January because I had to get up at like 4:00am the next day. I hope they come back "Lust" is such a great track and I've had Yr Body Is Nothing on heavy rotation for the last six months. I'm excited to see Body of Light open for Black Marble in June two brothers from Tucson with a clear old-school EBM influence. Lots of fun.

Body of Light were very good see them if you can. Cabaret Voltaire was playing on the pre-set playlist. Bought Andrew a beer after the show and not so subtly suggested that they should tour with Boy Harsher said he loved their music, it was a good idea, and that he'd love for something like that to happen. So grateful bands like Body of Light, Boy Harsher, and High-Functioning Flesh are putting out fresh new mean industrial sounds.

Danger - Octopus! posted:I love HFF's awesome faux Cabaret Voltaire retro vibe, it is so awesome. I tried to get into Cabaret Voltaire in college, but could never really swallow their critically acclaimed experimental stuff. Your comment inspired me to take another look into their catalog, and I discovered C.O.D.E. which is incredible. New summer album give me that smooth industrial funk.

New Boy Harsher single! The video is okay (some cool, gritty, New York at night vibes, but it doesn't really go anywhere), but the song is pretty good. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZeSN4PntOos "Motion" is the first track on their new EP Country Girl, which comes out October 13. It looks like the they also have a few new tour dates in October and November.

Rediscovering Robert Alfons' work. I keep forgetting how hard Trust (TR/ST?) bangs. This came some months ago, but I'm impressed by how good it is. Really looking forward to his new album early next year. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWOL0LtC7xw

Both of the albums he's put out so far are really good. He's part of the gloomy Canadian synthpop continuum. Maya Postepski, Austra's drummer, used to be in Trust, but left to focus on Austra and her solo work. Fake edit: Maya apparently left Austra in May and rejoined TR/ST. A little sad about this, since I loved the Austra trio's chemistry, but overall excited, since Austra's albums since their debut have disappointed me, and Trust's 2012 album (which she worked on) is my favorite. She says the new stuff they've been working on will be darker.

BrutalistMcDonalds posted:Btw, Spotify's new concert feature that shows you a list of upcoming shows based on your album library is amazingly convenient. I feel really dumb for having this app on my phone, but Industrial Music Alerts is impressive for how completely it centralizes concerts and DJ nights folks on this thread would be into. It seems like a useful way to discover things that you haven't listened to yet. In fact, did someone here recommend it? It used to be known as RdB Events.

I don't mean this as contrarian shade — I have so much respect for Trent Reznor and his body of work, and most of all, the kindness he showed to Gary Numan (his cover of "Metal" is ) It's just I don't know too too much about Nine Inch Nails' body of work. I checked out Pretty Hate Machine last year and was unimpressed — maybe had trouble identifying with it in my thirties. Maybe (probably??) Reznor's lyrics just aren't that good. So, last week I discovered the Head Like a Hole maxi-single, which made me reconsider my limited assessment of Reznor. I still think Reznor is a weak lyricist (I'd be interested to hear a counterargument), but what is so beautifully clear on this maxi-single, is Reznor's skill as a producer and his ear for samples. It's a staggeringly good work, and it's so much fun to hear Reznor toy around with merely "okay" tracks from the album and turn them into straight-up goth club dancefloor bangers. tl;dr: hot take — the Head Like a Hole maxi-single is a better Nine Inch nails record than Pretty Hate Machine
