randyest posted:What? The free "find my phone" app will allow finding a iPhone or ipad by gps, playing a sound on it, pushing a message to it, and/or wiping the data. The software was Switch, I found out, and apparently it doesn't actually create a guest "account" as i said so that no use. Basically the iPad will be use in my University Registrar office counter to allow students to pay for their transcripts (I guess through the browser, I don't have the details). The concern is the users' data. So my boss is looking for a way to wipe or return the iPad to a previous state after each use. I know it far fetched but worth a try asking. @Pissflaps Thanks for that, probably will be helpful somehow in the future.

I'm not sure if it's feasible to wipe after every use. Maybe you could use a browser in private browsing mode?

Does anyone know of a good tool for converting movies for iPad? I have airplay for when I'm at home but I need something for when I'm on the airplane.

Well I didn't really come here to share such personal information... Note Taker HD I mean yeah it's pretty good for what it is, but I've realised that evernote suits me better anyway and I don't find typing on the ipad all that bad anway.

And trying to watch a youtube review of almost any app is an exercise in learning that youtube can be more torturous than ripping each hair out of my nut sack one by one. How about we show the intro screen for maybe two minutes while some uninteresting stinkyhole rambles about how this hosed that and then show the next screen, and don't really review anything at all, just show us how it's used. Like, lots of people raved about penultimate, the reviews made it look good n poo poo, but no-one really talked about it's real-world use. Which became apparent as soon as I used it.. gently caress the internet

I thought I would love Penultimate. Even bought a stylus in anticipation. How anyone writes effectively using this app is beyond me. Unless you suspend your wrist and palm while writing (uncomfortable and not practical) you will have miscelleanous marks in your document from your palm. Yes there is a palm reduction setting but I've found it to be useless.

Are either of the other handwriting apps (Notes Plus or UPad) any good, at least? I've had my eye on one or the other of them here...

Note Taker HD has some distinct benefits over penultimate, the way it sort of has a magnified edit area is great but not flawless, and has plenty of features that are handy. But I find typing is much faster than people lead on, I can type fast enough on it, faster than I can write with pen and paper anyway, which is all that matters really if I'm comparing it to pen and paper for note taking.

Notes Plus is pretty solid but the way I write just doesn't work with it's input or something, like when I write a quick line as part of a letter it only comes out as a dot a lot. And the way it auto shows/hides the file list is really annoying since I zoom in/out a lot apparently. It just really frustrated me a lot for whatever reasons. If I were to switch away from Note Taker it'd probably be UPad at this point, mostly cause the UI doesn't bug me and it seems to have all the features of Note Taker too (particularly more paper templates and PDF annotation). echinopsis posted:Note Taker HD has some distinct benefits over penultimate, the way it sort of has a magnified edit area is great but not flawless, and has plenty of features that are handy.

my photos are all out of order on my ipad. I hear they are sorted by the "date taken" in the EXIF Is there an easy, hopefully free solution I can use to sort them by name that doesnt involve me going into each folder and manually changing the EXIF's? I would rather keep that data intact and I have too many sub-folders to do that easily

I was a bit weary of paying $9.99 for an app, but I picked up Numbers and I've really liked it so far. Does anyone have any experience with Pages? I would mostly be using it to send out quotes for our catering business, which is basically creating one document then tailoring it with small edits for each client. It's pretty simple and I would think Pages could handle this easy enough. Does it export to PDF well?

It's actually pretty decent other than seeing markups or comments and no dropbox functionality.

I don't remember what thread it was, but a while back (maybe latter half of last year) I saw some discussion and rumblings about some App that was perfect for writers (for iPad, of course.) It was extremely basic (looking, anyway) but the general consensus was that it was really great for lots of writing / writers. I wish I could remember the name now. [edit] Oh it was called iA Writer.

I think this is probably unlikely, but is there anything that makes this device play nicer with a proxy? I'm at uni now and the proxy is only available for http and it constantly asks me for my user name and password, despite me entering that into the wifi settings.

So what's the verdict here about Documents to Go vs. The other Office software? I've been a Palm fanboy for the better part of a decade, and I've been using it since then. So when I bought an iPad, it was natural for me to pick it up. I've never had any problems with it, but i never see it recommended in this thread. Is there something I'm missing, or are the other Office apps just that much better?

This is kinda about the built in calendar app.. But is there any way to add an event just by clicking on the calendar? It seems klunky to add an event manually, change the time and date, when just clicking on it (ala google calendars) seems so easy and obvious.. Am I missing something?

Also, since this thing is new to me, I'm trying heaps of apps.. Apps don't really quit do they? I've yet to see a quit function on any app, so when I hit home and then double click the home button sometimes I have dozens of apps "running".. How imperative is it that I periodically close those I am not interested in?
|
| # ? Mar 25, 2011 07:24 |

If you're using an iPad 2, likely less imperative. I noticed that with the iPad 1 it gets sluggish.
|
| # ? Mar 25, 2011 07:33 |

It's just a recent apps list and unrelated to whether they're actually running or not (however if something is running, it can be used to kill the app). Unless you know something is having or causing a problem, the only reason to get rid of an app there...is if you don't want it there.

Just got an iPad and I'm trying to locate an app that was loaded on some of the iPad display models at the apple store. It was a freetown drawing app with a Japanese theme. You could choose among a number of Japanese paper styles and borders and then use black ink to make your own Japanese characters and such. It was really pretty and I want it mainly so my kids can enjoy it (that kind of black/white contrast is super effective on a one year old). Does anyone know the name of this app? I've searched the app store a dozen drat times with no success. Thanks to the winner.
