We'll take care of that.

barkingclam posted:

Does that extend to radio? For example, if a team plays a game thats on ESPN Radio (let's say a Sunday night game), would they have to use that broadcast for their radio feed?

For the most part, the radio guys work every game. You might get multiple radio broadcasts, but the local guys are on.

Another great (radio) broadcaster is Bob Uecker (Brewers). A much different style than Scully, but absolutely hilarious. He also knows when to shut up for a moment (not saying that Scully doesn't).

Everyone should listen to John Sterling. He is the greatest. He hasn't missed a game since 1989! He also has many hilarious catchphrases, most of which revolve around puns! The only person I enjoy more than John Sterling is the similarly excellent Michael Kay, especially when paired with John Flaherty

Why do the Pirates have 5 freaking announcers? They shuffle them between TV and radio like a lot of teams, but still, 5?

Steve Blass is kinda funny in a dumb sort of way, though. Like Errey on the Penguins games.

How many consecutive Pirates games could you announce before hanging yourself on air?

Just thought I'd bring this up since it seems relevant to this thread... Jonah Keri wrote a piece on the Astros from Grantland that's a great summary of how they are building their new front office from a very analytical foundation. There are lots of good links in the article that serve as great primers on newer concepts, such as the contributions of good pitch framers and the value of the hit-and-run, as well.

http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id...-houston-astros

I didn't know that there actually have been situations in which the hit-and-run is beneficial, and it's not at all the situations in which I'd think.

It's great, but when you're watching the tenth inning keep in mind that it is tremendously biased toward the Yankees and Red Sox and does not tell the whole story of the last decade. It barely touches on the 2005 Chicago White Sox, which was a fantastic story, nor the 2003 Marlins except in context of the Cubs debacle. It does do Bonds justice, though, which is important and a big point in its favor.

Since replacement level is calculated relative to position average, the OPS+ of a replacement-level player depends on what position the play. For instance, the following players put up a 0.0 oWAR on B-R in 2011:

RF/LF Ben Francisco (97 OPS+)
CF Ezequiel Carrera (72 OPS+)
SS Brandon Crawford (66 OPS+)

The times when Miller gets bored and calls a full plate appearance in another language are the best. Supposedly he would occasionally call an entire half inning in Spanish but I've never heard it myself so it was probably a pretty long time ago.

Jon Miller owns, Giants broadcasters own.
