Great OP, thanks!

It may have convinced me to not use my gimmicky intermediate 67 flex TotalOne with pitching wedge/P92/Backstrom blade. I haven't scored since I got it back in December (although I'm an assist machine now apparently), and I've been having a little more problems catching passes on my forehand.

I have an experienced teammate telling me to check out the PM9 and P88 instead. I'm leaning toward trying out the PM9 since it's still slightly open and the lie is lower (I'm short). And going back to my probably 90-95 flex (cut a few inches) Vapor X:20 shaft to help alleviate my pass catching woes.

I feel like a gigantic rear end in a top hat for getting $150 worth of stick and going back to my $60 one :(

Last game of the season last night. It was a throwaway after we got tossed from the playoffs last week.

Half of us showed up drunk and just had a blast playing. We kept the goalies in the same nets the whole game, so we got to shoot on our own goalie during the 2nd period which was great. In the third, I turned around and fired a shot on our own goalie. Unfortunately he saved it :(

In the first period, I took a wrister that bounced low off the goalie's kicker near the post and it disappeared. We spent at least 5 whole minutes digging through the goalie's pads and the netting to try to find the puck and eventually found it in the net. :iiam:

It was a blast just going out there not really caring about winning and just having fun.

The blade is almost identical to the one I have, it's in a really rare flex that might work for someone as light (145) and weak as I am, and it's really cheap. I'm really really tempted.

EDIT: oh gently caress I double posted. my bad.

EDIT2: nevermind. I think 58" is too short for me by a very small bit.

58" is too short, and you're 145? That seems off. How tall are you?

I'm 5'9" and I use a 49" stick.

Most of them are on the ice thanks to my pitching wedge Backstrom, but hey whatever works.

So apparently the team who won the league championship at my rink last night, subbed in a ringer from their higher-league team between the 1st and 2nd periods. As in, he was sitting in the stands watching the 1st. He's the second top scorer on their higher team.

He proceeds to score 3 goals in the 3rd to win the game. Classy.

Henrik Zetterberg

Well the hockey director came on the ice and said basically since there was no explicit rule (even though there should be, also it's a jackass move), that he's going to allow it.

This dude has no backbone and doesn't enforce anything. It doesn't surprise me that he allowed it, to be honest.

From what I've seen, yes. You can walk in whenever you want and sit in the stands, watch whatever's going on.

Just don't act surprised if they keep shooting pucks at you during warmup. I was web browsing while waiting for lessons while some guys were getting ready for a game, and I swear every last one of them was using my head as a target. I lost count of the pucks hitting glass right in front of me.

This is funny because it's true. One of the guys on my team has a 10ish year old kid, who makes it a point to tell me the Red Wings suck every time I see him. During our warmup he stands up against the glass and I make it a habit to either shoot the puck at his head or throw myself into the boards. He fist bumps the whole team while we're coming off the ice after a game and I enjoy face-washing him as well.

I had a few posts throughout the thread whining about my lack of goal scoring since December. Last game of the season, I had about 5-6 beers beforehand. I go out and score 2 goals in one period. I felt so much more loose out there on my skates and was beating people to pucks constantly. I may have to make this a habit...

It was actually a ton of fun. It was the first time I've ever played goalie on ice. I felt like an aircraft carrier trying to maneuver in the pads though. gently caress the skates. gently caress. The. Skates. I almost ate poo poo skating over to the bench after the zamboni was done.

I gave up a couple softies, but made a few nice diving saves. My problem was that when I slid to a side to make a save, I'd kick the leg out, but I'd be sort of crouching on the other leg, so my 5-hole was wide open. Gave up 1 or 2 between the legs like that :(

I took a couple shots between the top of the kicker and the pad in the pants when I went down to my knees They're already sore today. All in all, it was a blast and I'd do it again. Our team now has a backup goalie!

Yeah I saw that floating about. I'm just a regular ol' wing who stepped in the net for fun for a game. Not looking to tend the net full time. I gotta say, it's much more exhausting than I thought. I was dead tired after slapshot practice and SHOOTOUT CHALLENGE before the game.

Awesome!

How is the talent level out there? My friend played in NARCH (huge roller hockey tournament) and a bunch of kids from Sac State had a team and they were pretty good.

I play at Sharks Ice @ San Jose and our leagues range from A - EEEE and my friend played in lower D/E level as a semi ringer but played in a B league in San Diego.

It's pretty good. We don't use the A-EEEE system to rank the leagues as far as I know. We have Bronze/Silver B/Silver A/Gold B/Gold A then sometimes Platinum. There's about 8-10 teams in each league, so there's a pretty hefty number of players for 2 rinks. Obviously we're in the Bronze league, but it's pretty competitive, especially since a couple of the teams have been around for a few years.

The traveling team (Capital Thunder or something) practices and plays at the rink, and most of them are disgustingly good. 15 years younger than me and 10 times better than I'll ever be. Kind of depressing really.

poser posted:

Any tips on delayed entry to the zone? I'm a little bit faster than people on my team and I beat them to the blue line I just end up stopping and waiting and it messes up my flow.
I'm usually like this too. If no one is covering me, I'll straddle the line. If I have a D-man near me, I'll just curl inwards towards the center so I don't completely lose all my momentum. I hate coming to a dead stop on the blue line, then having someone dump it in. No chance to get to the puck before the defense after I lose all the momentum.

Actually Skatetown does have a rule against this as far as I know - at least as of last Spring/Summer league a person had to be rostered by midseason and on the ice for at least half of the team's regular season games to play in a playoff game with a team. The director is a jerkoff though.

Yeah, this guy only had 7 games played for the Bronze team or so. Not to mention, the biggest issue was him sitting in the stands for the first period. Then he geared up and swapped out with someone for the 2nd and 3rd.

What sucks most is I know a dude on that team, who played the whole season in Bronze, didn't get to play in that game because of a bunch of ringers they brought down to play for that one game.
