Not as whack as your lack of justification thereof.

In other news, my friend Keith drew a comic about Matt Pike today.

i just think they haven't done anything really sticky or worth getting excited about since leviathan. it's just my opinion.

e: crack the skye seemed good at first, but i lost interest in it really quickly. i think it was the predominance of clean vocals. then again the jonah hex tunes they did were okay.

I admit to not reading the entire thread, so sorry if it has been up, but is anyone into Conan? Horseback Battle Hammer sounds like a really decent album from the tunes I've heard, and I will probably go see them when they hit Copenhagen april next year.

I'm a big fan of their split with Slomatics. Nice guys, too.

There's an early mix of a tune from the new Colour Haze album floating about (with the blessing of the band): http://youtu.be/RvwAfeURuwY

Wasn't sure what I thought at first, but I've been unable to get it out of my head for a week or more now, so I guess it must be good.

No idea. A Youtube search would suggest they're reasonably good but nothing amazing, but it just seemed like a fun gig and it's cheap.

I know what you mean, especially from Big Black on. I like Frequencies and Time Travelling Blues because there's a little psychedelic streak in them that they really lost later where they moved away from being a "stoner rock" band to just straight up heavy metal with nothing to make them stand out. Ward's voice can be really grating as well because it's totally flat and a lot of the time it sounds like he's making GBS threads himself.

The new album is a little bit fresher, but it's all sort of background music rather than something you actually listen to or get involved with.

The second half of the new album is a lot psychedelicker but if you really want heavy psych, you shouldn't be looking to orange goblin for it. One thing always makes orange goblin stand out no matter what they're playing and it's that they're loving loud.

You know, I get that very same feeling regarding what Spiritual Beggars started doing ever since they changed vocalists yet again. On Fire kicks rear end, as does everything they did with Spice before that, but I haven't been able to get into the generic heavy metal of Return to Zero at all since it came out.

Heard Grand Magus?

Just want to add that the new Colour Haze is hands down the best record I've heard this year and, to boot, they really take care of their fans. Stefan sent my gf a signed poster from loving Poland or somewhere, in an envelope he hand-made from printed out emails, while in the middle of a tour, in time for her to give it to me for my birthday.

I loving love that band.

Gushing Granny posted:

Yeah, I've read that their latest album moved away from their traditional heavy sound. More melodic. Interested in hearing it.

In a way, yes, but the record is plenty heavy and it's not a huge digression. This time around the sound is more layered with differing textures and more expansive as a result.

So I recently stumbled across an album called Tumuli Shroomaroom, by the band Acrimony. It seems like it's a bit of an unknown (or at least under appreciated) release, but I think it should be up there as one of the best stoner releases of the 90s.

You may want to give Sigirya a look. It's substantially the same line-up as Acrimony IIRC.

Also Wo Fat have got a Kickstarter up to try and fund a full European tour built around their Roadburn and Desertfest shows. Not sure how many Eurogoons are in the thread and might consider pitching in, but I certainly will be once I shuffle some money off my Visa.

Are there any bands reminisce of Electric Wizard except instrumental? I really like Electric Wizard and their vocals but every other band I find with the same sort of groove doesn't really catch me on the vocals.

My suggestion would be Belzebong: http://youtu.be/xP_9mTfXA38

Checkout http://theobelisk.net

the obelisk is the best, if only because he covers everything exhaustively. But I find it difficult to sort the good from the bad in his reviews because he's so effusive about everything. There's a cool forum there, though.

Posting because I got a ticket to see Bongripper and Conan together for FIVE FREAKING POUNDS. That's the best value gig ticket I've bought in a while. I am listening to Satan Worshiping Doom excessively loudly and am very excited for this show. Also, from what people are saying here, I need to check out the Beastwars album, yes?

Which date?

[This is a couple of months old, but I only just found it and I checked back a few pages without seeing it posted.]

Full Colour Haze set from this year's Duna Jam. Contains a couple of new tracks, plus a moment where the drummer nearly brains the bassist with a flyaway stick. Cool stuff.

New album came out last month, got my CD copy on Christmas Eve. Vinyl isn't released till February though.

EDIT: color haze are cool but too vocally. Anything similar along the lines of the track "Love" ?

Check out 35007 and My Sleeping Karma. Improv bands like My Brother The Wind or Tia Carrera might be worth looking into also.
