It only happens with the maphack?

I remember someone having this problem last time around but I don't remember the fix. I'm pretty sure it had nothing to do with the maphack though.

IIRC correctly it's only the "x" close-inventory button that was giving someone trouble before, or something like that. I don't know what the fix was but you can search through the old thread.

ID broke it with the patch, just transfer over a new one from a new character, and stop on what you want.

Does anybody have alternate fonts that they're using with mousepad's maphack that they'd like to share? I want to use a more readable font for every part of the game but there's no documentation for the feature - just wondering if someone has already figured it out.

D2GS(game server) crashed and needs to be restarted. Downtime is still at PAX, which is why it's still down. This is not a common occurrence and when he's back I'm sure something will be done about this. He was thinking of implementing a daily reboot, or forum controlled rebooting features.

Just know that this won't be happening every day heh.

Ok, I haven't played Diablo 2 in forever (seriously like 5 years) and I have a sudden urge to get back into it, but I have a few questions.

Where can I pick up a cheap copy of it? I assume a digital copy would be cheaper, but where should I buy it from?

Do I need to expansion? I never got the chance to play it but it looked pretty cool.

How does the ladder thing work? I never tried it because I sucked rear end at PvP and it sounded strange. I seem to recall your character getting wiped or deleted when the ladders reset or something, can someone do a quick rundown on that?

How big is the online community now?

With this Eastern Sun mod, is it recognized by Battlenet or whatever? Like is it considered hacking or anything that might get me banned?

Finally, have any of the major archetypes shifted since I last played? Which classes are good / crap now? I was thinking of rolling an Necro or Amazon, but I dunno if they are still viable and such.

Sorry for all the questions, but I'd love to get some answers and get back into this game.

To play Eastern Sun on this server, you do not need a valid CD key to play.

AbdominalSnowman posted:

Yes.

AbdominalSnowman posted:

It's just a ranking of the players on the server by XP. Nothing to do with PvP. The system on Bnet is that every year or two they move all the ladder characters to non-ladder to allow the ladder to start fresh. Nothing like that goes on here.

AbdominalSnowman posted:

There's a couple dozen people on this server at any given time.

I think if you install the single-player version of ES you can still safely go on battlenet, but why would you when you can play ES with goons?

AbdominalSnowman posted:

Eastern Sun's archetypes are basically entirely different. If you haven't played the expansion, you probably wouldn't recognize the popular archetypes on battlenet either. Eastern Sun is practically a whole new game. It's awesome, you should join us. Check out the info on the server's forum.

And further clarification, this is a goon hosted battle.net server, it has nothing to do with blizzard and the barely resembles D2 for that matter.

You can find copies of D2 in stores still, or if you want not to be ripped off, you can buy it online from blizzard's online store. If you ever owned an older copy, even if the cd-keys were banned on bnet for whatever, you can use them on this server since it doesn't authenticate cd-keys.

AbdominalSnowman posted:

The expansion is mandatory, yes.

AbdominalSnowman posted:

In our version of "ladder", it just means the server is only setup for ladder characters. They'll never be wiped, or deleted from inactivity. Otherwise it's business as usual.

AbdominalSnowman posted:

The forum is sitting at 106 accounts right now, and since your forum account is your diablo 2 ES account, that would suggest over 100 players. Our community is about as generous as it gets, too. Well I am

AbdominalSnowman posted:

Ok basically what happens is when you install the mod, it changes the gateway information D2 stores in the registry, pointing them to the custom server's address. Battle.net doesn't know poo poo and never will.

AbdominalSnowman posted:

The mod totally redefines the game. Not in a totally alien way, but it adds SO GODDAMN MUCH to the game that you'll really want to read the wiki and ES Database which are linked in the OP.

I like to think of it this way: Eastern Sun is Diablo's Viagra. It makes it longer, harder and the payloads have been vastly improved.

Cool, I definitely want to get in on this. I don't have my old discs anymore though, should I just buy it from blizzard or is there some way to download the client for free (I assume this would work if ES doesn't need a CD key)?

If for some reason I ever felt like playing the original D2 for old times sake, would I have to play single player only?

There is no legal way to install D2 without buying it. Any sort of free download is, of course, against the forum rules, so don't tell us or ask us about it.

If you wanted to play single-player vanilla D2, it'd need to be a separate installation from your ES installation.

Sorry, wasn't sure if there was a legal way or not. So basically I buy a digital copy of the game + expansion from blizzard, then download ES and I'm good to go?

I'll probably have to pick up the expansion on the first of next month, so I guess I'll just play some vanilla D2 for a bit to get back into the swing of it.

And once I download ES, I just shouldn't mess with the original at all? So don't go on BNET or anything?

You can have multiple golems in ES. You should read up on the golem skills on the Eastern Sun wiki. It's actually a decent build - you get about 8 golems of various types and get equipment with good auras on them to buff them up, and they become an unkillable wall of blood, clay, metal, and fire.

The glide wrapper works, but the cursor is buggy. D2MultiRes does not work with this mod.

I apologize for the server downtime over the weekend. I had set up scripts to restart the services when they stopped running, but I did not account for a situation where d2gs would crash but not stop running. Thankfully Spartan restarted the services when they went down, though after an extended amount of downtime.

I have set up the following measures to hopefully cut down on the amount of interruptions we get:

1) Added a Tools link to the forum that currently Spartan, Garfu, Six, and myself have access to. This tool will allow us to restart the realm services without actually needing to log into the box running it. I have also added a 5 minute soft restart for d2gs to this in the cases where d2gs games are still functioning but not allowing more to be made.

2) A scheduled nightly restart of the d2gs server has been added to the tail end of the backup scripts. At 4am EST a 15 minute warning will go out telling people in game that the game server is being restarted.

Hopefully these additions will help us get away from extended amounts of downtime.

Just in case there's some emergency or it goes down in the middle of the day and no one's around, I've set up an email to forward to my blackberry so I can be contacted to restart the server at pretty much any time of the day. I can access the page and restart tools form my phone so it shouldn't be a problem.

Any summoning build is going to be very safe as your summons will typically have shitloads of hp and you will never get hit. That said summoner builds of any type fail utterly once you start wanting to run more than 1 player hell games. If you were playing ES completely alone, a Necromancer is a great character to do a first run through to hell but their power is capped dramatically at high levels.

The class with the most damage output/survivability is by far a fire Sorceress but it is insanely expensive to actually build one that can survive well in 8 player hell. Lightning Barbarian is second highest in terms of raw damage output to many targets, and is far cheaper to build one capable of surviving 8 player hell. Bow Amazon is probably third (multishot/strafe with full lockdown) and is very cheap and very survivable as you can knockback and stun and lock down anything. Bowazon is also good as you can whittle away at larger targets with tons of crushing % and that is very very cheap to get with a certain high level set. Bowazon is extremely weapon dependent though, so you may have to reroll rare bows a LOT to get one worth a drat. Luckily Brahmin or someone wrote a hack for d2hackit that lets you auto reroll until you get the desired prefix/suffix on an item. Tornado Druids may tie Amazons for 3rd place and are also relatively cheap to build. It is still possible to build a Winter's Fury Druid but it is very expensive as you need a shitload of -enemy res to break the hardest cold immunes in the game. Lightning is by far the easiest immunity to break. I think you only need like -180% to break the hardest thing that isn't a unique monster and you can get it with conviction on a merc and the lower resistance curse.

Basically any class and any build is capable of soloing 8 player hell stuff (even Naraku given enough maples) but the above are the builds that really excel at it.

Edit: Whoops it's lightning that is easiest to break. Part of what makes a fire Sorc so expensive is that you need a lot of +skills to get a high enough lower resistance curse to break those stupid fire skeleton mages in Magicians and some trash monsters in Naraku.
