Remember: when installing ES using the installer downloaded from the OP, install the files to your base D2 directory, not its own directory like the singleplayer version. It should be installed in /Diablo II/, not /es300r/.
I've seen this posted many times, but it's never been explained. Why do you need to overwrite the base game? Is the installer coded to point at the d2 directory? Can it not be changed to point at the es directory?

So the CD check is the only reason? I have a CD, so that's not a problem. Is there anything else keeping one from using the separate directory?

I don't know if other summoner necromancers have experienced this issue but sometimes I'll crash right out of the game, especially if it's a heavily populated area like gfrazier dome. I usually roll with 35+ minions with multiple auras and it's a little annoying to remake my army all over again
I find the fact that minions tend to disappear if you leave them behind more annoying. Is that a hard-coded limitation of the engine?

I just started playing too. Made a Necro. The change from Raise Skeleton to Revive at the beginning is kinda cool so far but I'm only at level 4.
I disagree. I've always felt that Revives are useless. They don't seem to do enough damage to even justify the time and mana it takes to summon them, and they only last a few minutes, so you're constantly having to make new ones. I would love to be proven wrong though.

That's why you give your merc auras that benefit everyone.
One typically won't have an act two mercenary at level 4, when using Revives is only slightly better than trying to poke everything with your starter scythe.

Really though, Winter Fury was always my favorite for normal and nightmare. It's radius gets ridiculously huge at higher levels, and you just run around with it up while everything dies. Plus it slows down mobs, which is always a bonus. Makes doing cow runs and stuff a breeze.
This works up until everything starts spawning cold immune, so you switch to Creeping Doom, then everything is suddenly magic immune. Is that actually coded into hell difficulty, or am I just imagining the game actively trying to gently caress me?

Just as many others before me, I got the urge to play Eastern Sun again. I could never get the online thing working (and it's a moot point right now anyway), so I play single player. Since the last time I played, I have lost my LOD disc, which complicates matters. I have tried various means to get this game going again, including everything listed on the first page of this thread. Mounting both the mini-cd and the LOD ISO (made from my original disc a while back, no here) proved fruitless, even after going through the registry and changing the drive letter all the D2-related keys point to. I also burned the ISO to a disc, but that didn't do anything either. The Eastern Gents install stuff worked, but that removes access to the shared stash and multiple stash pages, and I have LOTS of stuff in shared/other pages that I'd rather not lose. I have the digital download, but that only works for vanilla. He;lp please.

Just come play on the server then? Or why is it a moot point, internet issues?
I thought the server was down? Maybe I misread the last couple pages of the thread.

Well, easterngoons/easterngents.dyndns.org don't seem to exist, and the game won't connect. Kinda hard to set up an account to play with you guys when the forum I'm supposed to register with is down. Hopefully I'm doing something wrong, but I've followed the steps listed in the OP.

Then let's go back to my original question. How do you make single player work without the original disc? As I said,

I'll ask a different question then. I can remember being able to scroll through the skills I'd assigned to the right click with the mouse wheel. That doesn't work right now. I'm pretty sure others have had that issue, but I searched through the thread and couldn't find mention of it. Is there a way to restore that functionality?

I think the mouse wheel only scrolls through previously hotkeyed skills. Check your keybinds in the options as well.
Yeah, I have all twelve function keys bound to skills. It just says "None" for selecting next and previous skill. I guess I could just bind plus on the numpad for next skill, but the mouse wheel was drat convenient.

You can't bind next/prev to the mouse wheel?
Nope. The wheel works; I can use it to scroll through that option menu just fine.

Change your shortcut to run it in XP compatibility mode
That didn't work.

1. I just discovered these games tonight called, I think, "chants_and_cows85." It was a bot creating a cow level over and over again for people. Are there any drawbacks to this? Will this get my account banned or anything?

2. When the ladder resets do I lose my character and have to start over?
1. I don't play online, but I'm pretty sure participating in a bot-hosted game is okay. The bot's account is the one at risk. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong though.

2. No. The character stays, it's just not eligible for the next ladder season. To participate in the next ladder, you have to make a new character.
