insideoutsider posted:I'm really excited to see how Topps can integrate more white jerseys into "1 auto or relic per box" products. I also hope Topps releases more high end products that feature larger sections of white jerseys. The best is that Topps now counts their "manufactured relics" as one of the hits. You know - the REALLY COOL ones where they make up their own patch and shove it in a card or they use some scrap metal to make a replica award and jam it into a card? I love how they are able to just make poo poo up and call it a "relic" and that counts for some reason...

Cleaning my room today rummaging through the baseball cards and found a Mike Schmidt 1980 World Series patch. Completely forgot I had it.

I've heard that some stores will submit your cards for PSA/BGS grading at a pretty large discount to what you could get as a small batch/individual. Any idea how to track these places down? Also, is this a featured service, or is this technically against the rules?

You'll often be able to participate in group submissions on forums at Blowout Cards and Freedom Cardboard.

I'm currently about to submit my first cards to Beckett for BGS/BVG grading through Sports Card Forum. They submit at least 100 cards at a time to get the discount and they don't do PSA at this time. The latest submission round starts tonight and runs though April 22. Cost is currently $7 per card + $1 for autos.

I bought a 40% off blaster at Target and got this sweet Lance Parrish autograph. I love Archive's autographs.

Heaf posted:Some big news out of the Las Vegas Industry Summit. Upper Deck has gotten back in to baseball with an MLBPA license for 2013. Look for UD's Fleer Retro brand. Topps, on the other hand, has secured exclusive MLB rights until 2020. http://www.beckett.com/news/2013/03...-throuugh-2020/ How is this even not in court? In the '70s, companies sued to break up Topps/MLB's monopoly of the baseball card industry, and a Superior Court decision ushered in the entry of Donruss and Fleer into the baseball card hobby. But here we are three decades later, and the two companies are at it all over again...

Topps was a much bigger market bully when that lawsuit came about. They were fighting off anyone making any baseball stuff. Plus a lawsuit against them, like American Needle vs the NFL or the class action suit against EA over Madden would be expensive, time consuming, and not necessarily successful.

I finally got off my rear end and started TTMing again (what the hell else am I going to do with all of these cards?), and of course the first one back was Bobby Shantz, who must hold his postman at the door while he signs or something. What a wonderful friend to the hobby.

Broke my first box of baseball with a friend a couple weeks ago. We got a box of 2009 World Champions by Allen and Ginter. He got some sweet body builder autograph, and I got a Joe Mauer patch that was pretty cool. It's been probably 10 years since I opened some baseball cards.
