I'm really excited to see how Topps can integrate more white jerseys into "1 auto or relic per box" products. I also hope Topps releases more high end products that feature larger sections of white jerseys.

Its funny, Panini National Treasures is a recent product that has been VERY hot at the shop near where I live. Despite featuring players with their hats and logos cropped, people keep buying it. It seems (at least with Football) even the low end hits in Panini products feature colorful patches and jerseys. I know Panini has less products and therefore they can dedicate their "relic budget" to one product but it seems like Topps is saying "gently caress you" to collectors with how they treat "game used relics".

The best is that Topps now counts their "manufactured relics" as one of the hits. You know - the REALLY COOL ones where they make up their own patch and shove it in a card or they use some scrap metal to make a replica award and jam it into a card? I love how they are able to just make poo poo up and call it a "relic" and that counts for some reason...

Cleaning my room today rummaging through the baseball cards and found a Mike Schmidt 1980 World Series patch. Completely forgot I had it.

I've heard that some stores will submit your cards for PSA/BGS grading at a pretty large discount to what you could get as a small batch/individual. Any idea how to track these places down? Also, is this a featured service, or is this technically against the rules?

I'm currently about to submit my first cards to Beckett for BGS/BVG grading through Sports Card Forum. They submit at least 100 cards at a time to get the discount and they don't do PSA at this time.

The latest submission round starts tonight and runs though April 22.

Cost is currently $7 per card + $1 for autos.

Ha, my buddy at work would love that hat. Hell, I'd wear a Topps one.

Better yet, it's in the 1984 Topps style to boot. A good design to reuse for Tigers.

Well, you guys work in a hobby-related industry. It goes with the territory. I do look at these type of things differently since I was cruising around Guatemala City 6 or 8 years ago and saw a guy wearing a "Doyle for Wisconsin" shirt.

Some big news out of the Las Vegas Industry Summit. Upper Deck has gotten back in to baseball with an MLBPA license for 2013. Look for UD's Fleer Retro brand. Topps, on the other hand, has secured exclusive MLB rights until 2020. http://www.beckett.com/news/2013/03...-throuugh-2020/

How is this even not in court? In the '70s, companies sued to break up Topps/MLB's monopoly of the baseball card industry, and a Superior Court decision ushered in the entry of Donruss and Fleer into the baseball card hobby. But here we are three decades later, and the two companies are at it all over again...

Topps was a much bigger market bully when that lawsuit came about. They were fighting off anyone making any baseball stuff. Plus a lawsuit against them, like American Needle vs the NFL or the class action suit against EA over Madden would be expensive, time consuming, and not necessarily successful.

I'll be busting three hobby boxes and a blaster or two of 2013 Topps Archives when it comes out at the end of the month. I'll post here if I get anything cool.

I finally got off my rear end and started TTMing again (what the hell else am I going to do with all of these cards?), and of course the first one back was Bobby Shantz, who must hold his postman at the door while he signs or something. What a wonderful friend to the hobby.

Broke my first box of baseball with a friend a couple weeks ago. We got a box of 2009 World Champions by Allen and Ginter. He got some sweet body builder autograph, and I got a Joe Mauer patch that was pretty cool. It's been probably 10 years since I opened some baseball cards.

If you haven't gotten Bob Doerr yet, I would do it soon. His signature is getting shaky. He's also like 94.

Hey, look what came in the mail today:

I had read he was down to two per and not signing so well so I only sent him a couple modern insert cards and I think they came out okay given that he's 95! (Boy I need a real scanner that doesn't wash everything out though.)
