Eggplant Wizard posted:I think probably it is more an extension of feeling that the rule is ridiculous than any particular desire to look at dead/dying/seriously injured people. At least that is what I hope, since otherwise would be pretty appalling. That is what I hope, too! I don't think the rules have anything to do with it--SA may be a crazy conglomeration of tastes, but I'd hate to think we need or want a thread of people dying. If you have to make a rule about it, that's pretty bad.

What really constitutes a derail enough for people to passive-agressively whine about it in a thread? Maybe I was just reading the threads wrong where people were doing this, but there was maybe two posts talking about something without pics, and the "I miss the megarule" people came out of the woodwork to say just that. I see nothing wrong with two people talking about something without posting pics since someone would come along soon enough with ancient pictures that have been posted countless times on many a website since the early 2000s to sate the megarule gang's appetite. If it's something like: *Photoshopped picture of some 8th century Greek Orthodox stylized painting style* - "Well, actually, you see in the 700s, the Byzantine Empire was under scrutiny for iconoclasm. The idea was that the Ten Commandments forbade the creation of graven images as stated under Biblical Law, so Emperor Leo III..." Is a loving awesome derail because you get to look at old art and learn a history lesson. Ain't nothin' wrong with that if it's two, maybe three posts. But if it's an entire page and a half prattling on about anime or video games or politics or some other stupid poo poo, bring on the probations, I say. I like to call the megarule gang stereotypical "PYF hipsters," as in "I liked PYF before Backyard Blacksmith and Eggplant Wizard took it over PIC PIC PIC "Haha, funny - MEGARULE:" PIC PIC PIC PIC "Haha, funny - MEGARULE:" PIC PIC PIC... You Are A Elf posted:What really constitutes a derail enough for people to passive-agressively whine about it in a thread? People never agree when something's a derail. One person's interesting topical conversation is another person's insufferable derail. For some threads there are strict rules about discussion set out by a mod or the OP, but in the end it usually comes down to whether or not BYB or I think it's an annoying derail. Personally I mostly step in on derails that are getting bitchy or talking about some really broad thing that would be better discussed elsewhere on the forums (political issues, cooking, whatever). And yeah, length plays into it too, and whether or not the thread is still doing its thing in the midst of the conversation in question.

Speaking of derails, it seems that in the PYF Bans thread, every single time a ban from the LP forum gets posted, there are page long derails about LP and the superstars therein. This same derail has happened too many times to count. I reported the latest derail, not to get anyone probated, but just to please ask for one of you guys to step in and put a kibosh on it, but seriously, it happens every time LP bans are posted. Edit for clarification: Thenipwax was not the person who posted the original content I commented on. That was Alphadog, who actually didn't come back. I thought that was really below the belt. I shouldn't have responded to that, but I was mad. Afterward, I just let stopped and moved on.

I'm actually sorry I posted that particular image (the romeo and juliet advertisment one). I pointed out that I was refusing to engage with the people posting about it on facebook. I refrained from arguing on facebook because I knew it would turn into a shitstorm on and was thus perfect for the "idiots on facebook" thread, but I didn't think the debate would continue here. I'm sorry I pissed everyone off, I wasn't trying to troll or cause trouble.

For awhile now there are people in the GIF thread who keep posting huge dumps of GIFs that are just asian people...being. They're not funny or interesting, it's just actors and models and variety show contestants moving and kind of making faces and even thought people keep asking them to stop (or at least post ones that are interesting) they just keep posting them. Could you tell them to knock it off?

As opposed to the millions of US TV shows gifs with people doing absolutely nothing but are 100% super funny because you happen to be familiar with the show? I've never watched an episode of Community. It may be the funniest loving show in the history of the world, but seeing hundreds of gifs of a bunch of random people sitting in a room talking to each other is about as funny as watching paint dry when you don't know the context. So why not ban US TV gifs?

People post gifs of things you don't find interesting or worthwhile because they like different things than you, it's silly to come in here and complain about "those .gifs of asian people who don't do anything" because you already have at your disposal the ability to not see them, and that's by scrolling down.
