I usually hated that thread because of the cheerleading for admin abuse. "Oh boy, he got probated for 11 years for breaking a trivial rule, hilarious!!!" We don't need to be encouraging admins to ban people.

I think the derail thread is not a good idea. First, most people wouldn't use it. No one's going to post in there saying "Ok, here's where we can continue our discussion about the dog humping the kids leg in the animated gif thread. Boy that dog really humped that kids leg!!!". The discussion would be forced and unnatural, and most of the time the target audience wouldn't even read it. And if the thread did somehow work, you would have 12 different discussions going at once and it would be a confusing mess. And it would be too much like a general discussion thread, which the mods already said they don't want. I say if you want to discuss something, do it in the original thread, but then add new content to the post as well. Then I doubt the mods would complain about it. You can enable auto-embedding youtube links in the control panel under "Show video embedded in posts with the [video] tag?". I think it's disabled by default. http://forums.somethingawful.com/me...ion=editoptions

There have been several of those threads in GBS and I'm pretty sure they are gassed on sight now. Think it's because a lot of illegal stuff gets confessed and there's mod sass in there and most of it is all lies anyway.
