What does this mean? Lil B has actual talent and originality? How do you judge that? Just because somebody puts out a tape a day doesn't mean that they are suddenly the most creative artist on the planet. How is Riff Raff a "music executive's idea of a swag rapper" any more or less than Lil B? What deeper messages lie in Lil B's work that is absent in Riff Raff's music that makes you believe that Lil B will stand the test of time, whereas Riff Raff will be regarded as a one hit wonder oddity?
Lil B wrote a book, gave a lecture at NYU, charted a new age album, gets props from tons of successful rappers and made this:

But he's got his own thread so I'll leave it at that.

The NYU lecture was put on by a student organization. He was not invited by the actual university. But I'm sure it doesn't matter to his fans. I heard his verse on the 9th wonder joint and wasn't particularly impressed. I'll give this video a listen and see what I think.

The book and the album doesn't really impress me because anybody with the right connects/buzz can do that poo poo. I will admit that he seems like a good person, hence why everybody fucks with him, but I'm not attacking Lil B. I just don't see a difference between his songs and Riff Raffs songs.

e: after listening to the song, I can see your point in that Lil B talks about a wider varety of subjects than Riff Raff does. But I don't necessarily see that as a reason or excuse why he should be taken more seriously as an "artist" when Lil B even says himself in the song you posted that people need to stop judging others based on the Internet.

e2: so this post is not completely devoid of content, my homies Kydd and Max Frost dropped a new single a couple of days ago. Some R&B/rap type poo poo with some nice eye candy

I love Lil B and all, but the fact he wrote a book that is probably bad (haven't read it, but if someone has and wants to correct me that's fine too) and gets big ups from famous rappers doesn't sell him in my book. And I don't like Riff Raff ironically, I really think these songs are the jams (second song is not really rap):

Even if you don't like him (understandable) calling him a minstrel show, implying that hes any kind of racist or whatever seems like you're doing a bit of exaggerating.

Riff raff is much, much better than Lil B, comedy wise and actually appealing to listen to wise, so is Dirt Nasty and Andy Milonakis

Lil B is not a comedy act, and I can say without a trace of irony that his body of work is one of the greatest things to happen to hip hop in years. That said, I can get why people hate him. For me, there was a moment where he 'clicked' if that makes sense. My first exposure to him was the video for Ellen Degeneres, which I loudly derided (and have come to love) and somewhere around I'm Gay Lil B just started making perfect loving sense to me.

so likely he had a similar persona even before he was big

Lil B was a drug dealer who went to jail as a minor and turned his life around. Riff Raff is just peacocking to get a career. Andy and Dirt Nasty are funny as hell don't judge them based on Riff Raff. This conversation wasn't taking place when Dirt Nasty was trying to make Chain Swangaz take off, which is why Riff Raff is in this group. Its hard to not have an opinion on him but you need to keep in mind that hating him based on a persona and prior musical releases isn't really a good way of judging him as a person.

Oh you mean here:

Pretty sure you said that.

Any way I like Lil B and Riff Raff and they are both exploiting flamboyant imagery in order to further their careers. One thing I think Riff Raff has on B though is occasionally I actually wish B was a little less ramble-y; like on his Wayne feature I'll admit I think he could have capitalized on that moment a little more.

Now how about we all listen to a jamaican rap over "rack city"

I still think covert coup and pilot talk are his strongest, a lot of people liked fast times too. I like stoned immaculate though, its a really solid album no real duds. I want another album with alchemist tho

He needs to slow his output from like five mixtapes a year down to three, spend the extra time polishing his lyrics (dude can put out some gems when he wants - She Don't Want A Man is probably one of the better story raps to come out in years), and keep the list of producers per album to a minimum.

But hey, he obviously still has a ridiculous work ethic and probably makes more money doing it this way so more power to him.

But drat, three solid albums per year with one producer per album would own. Alchemist, Ski Beatz, and um Monsta Beatz or one of those guys from a few years back.
