If you count Vancouver as part of the PNW (and why not, in a musical sense) there is TONS of great rap. Saukrates is one of my favorite singer/rappers of all time. SPEAKING OF, that new Ro album is FIRE. JM's right, it's a different, less depressed lane for Ro (like he says in the interview, he doesn't make too much pain music anymore because life isn't so bad I prefer the old, suicidally-depressed Ro ON RECORD, to be honest (I'm glad he's sorted some of his problems out IRL, except for that one "negative bitch" of course). But hell, the dude's given us close to 10 albums of Pain Music- I'm glad he feeling better. And maybe we'll get some of that back on the new A.B.N. re-union.

It was just some random song that repped the westside but for some reason there was a Portland version of the song even tho the dude was from Cali. I have no idea what to ook for to find it on the 'tube. I posted this in PHIZ but this I gotta get more people to see this. So I'm seeing Lupe Fiasco live and have never listened to him. I know he did that song that ripped the melody from Modest Mouse but that's pretty much it. What stuff will he play live and what albums should I listen to? e. vv my bad! e2. Having now listened to about two albums, I truly take back my past behavior of not having listened to Lupe Fiasco. Rah! posted:That's probably one reason why when compared to many other US cities/regions they don't have as many rappers who aren't on some kind of conscious type of poo poo, or rapping about coffee and snow (i like Blue Scholars, but it's kind of funny when they mention "the hood", seeing as they're from Seattle, and especially in said coffee and snow song). I'm from the Detroit area, spent 8 days in Seattle and was completely blown away how safe every single part of that city felt. So, I totally get your point. But, to be fair, terms like "the hood" and "the block" are kind of blanket terms used in the genre that can really be applied no matter where you come from. Most everyone lives in a neighborhood or on a housing block. To nitpick the terminology without the context is a bit unfair (I listened to both Coffee and Snow tracks just now and didn't catch what you're referring to). I think anyone could use a term like 'hood' to reference where they live or grew up because that's the common language of the genre. If the Blue Scholars started going off about rolling with guns or some thug poo poo I might be able to see your point.

I've seen Wale twice now and I would have to advise that $15 is drastically overpaying to see him. Usually his sets are about 10-15 dudes on stage with the DJ quickly running through all of Wale's big songs (usually 90 seconds a piece) and the entire set will have go-go drums regardless of the way the original song sounded. If you like 90 second soundbites of songs and a lot of go-go drums, then maybe you will enjoy it. He didn't really have much crowd banter and rushed through his set both times. "Nike Boots" is probably the only song that was worth sticking around for and he's done with that in under 2 minutes. I think the only times where the crowd seemed into it were during "Nike Boots" and "Pretty Girls", but that's probably just because those are some of the more popular ones.

Yeah I live in houston and when freestyling with friends/acquaintances many many people will actually default to the "mayn hol up" flow, its kind of amazing actually, I've witnessed straight up cowboys who you would not expect to have the faintest hip-hop rhythm start rapping all screwed up like. Not that it's particularly good but it is a phenomenon.
