His songs took out heaps of spots in the triple j top 100 this year including number 8 so I wouldn't call it 'horrible'. It is nothing like riff raff or v nasty songs obviously... just a different take that i like it as its of a more relaxed and less lyrical type rap. taste is subjective though ![]() ps i am a surfer pss i normally hate aussie hip hop

Like, don't ask for people's opinions if you're just gonna argue with them if they don't like whatever you're trying to show off. It's bad form. Also we talked about this before, but people, please, quit posting foreign garbage. If it's not from the US, there's a 85% chance it's raw garbage. And if it's not from the US or Canada, there's a 99.98% chance it's the rawest of raw garbage.

Did I say 'gently caress your opinion' to him or did I just critique the use of the word horrible as excessive but even then follow that by saying taste is subjective. Sounds more like you wanted to flex your internet muscle and combine being a dick with ranting about a problem that doesn't exist. What I was attempting to do with my post was further the discussion from 'that sucks' to maybe why it sucks or compare the taste of Australian hip hop fans to that of Americans for some ~rap discussion~. Either way I think you're the one with bad form here for the above reason and because you're trying to focus the discussion of the rap thread to your personal USA only tastes despite this being a global forum. Thanks for those percentages by the way they really made the argument more scientific Harley C fucked around with this message at Jan 29, 2012 around 15:49 |

Perpetual Ascent posted:actually you argued that the song wasn't horrible simply because of its chart position or something I stated that mainly because triple j hottest 100 is quite a big cultural thing in Australia and I was surprised someone from Sydney hadn't heard his songs before. I understand that sounds like I was arguing with his opinion and so then I stated that taste is subjective as an each to their own type comment. I thought people would understand from that statement that it wasn't an argument about his opinion but actually me suggesting that maybe that's an extreme word to use then accepting that if that's what he thinks then that's OK. I did word that quite badly though, I just didn't think I'd have to put in effort to reply to a one line response as this isn't helldump. edit: im not going to bother reply to any more posts so just continue with rap poo poo sorry for creating this off topic blip Harley C fucked around with this message at Jan 29, 2012 around 16:18 |

Harley C posted:I just didn't think I'd have to put in effort to reply to a one line response as this isn't helldump. So you expect people to write essays saying why some garbage you post is good but you don't think it's worth defending your opinion because "this isn't helldump". Also nobody is buying that half-assed "taste is subjective" thing you tried throwing in at the end. You wanna know why most foreign rap is bad? Because it's usually highly derivative of whatever style was popular in the US 10 years ago. That stuff you posted is basically bad frat rap with an australian accent and horrible production. You heard of Mac Miller? Dude with a #1 album in a country that actually has cultural significance? Yeah, not only does HE get called horrible, but your boy is a bad version of him.

It is nothing like riff raff or v nasty songs obviously... just a different take that i like it as its of a more relaxed and less lyrical type rap. taste is subjective though To be honest the only Australian hip-hop I've checked out is Hilltop Hoods, which I really enjoyed but have now 'grown out of'. I might spin 'The Calling' every few months but generally I stick to US rap. In this sense I don't really have knowledge of Australian hip-hop to compare that song to. As you said, taste is subjective and that laid back beach type rap is not really my thing. I generally like dark, minimal beats with a rapper spitting dope verse after dope verse so that explains me disliking that song. Don't really listen to the radio but I can understand that getting a good spot on Triple J is good news for the rapper. From my understanding Triple J is a bit more underground with their track selections than say 104.1 which are very commercial. Where do you usually surf at? Are you in Sydney? I surf in Perth and occasionally go down south.
