How many of you guys know a decent amount about the history of hip-hop? For diversity day at my school, I made a presentation about the history of hip-hop, and I actually learned a lot that I never knew about. What are some interesting bits of hip-hop history that you guys would share?

caveman thug poo poo posted:I like to think that I know a lot about the history of hip-hop, but at the end of the day I just love beats and rhymes. I fell in love with hip-hop when I heard what people were doing with words, I remember being amazed that people could do that (i.e. 16 bars of 8 syllable rhyme schemes), and it's a lot easier for me to talk about how incredible it is that 'MC Y' or 'Producer X' did 'Thing Z' than the sociopolitical undertones of why it exists in the first place. I mean I never knew who started the MC thing, and I found it was DJ Kool Herc. I then learned about "breaks" and what the "break" contributed to hip hop (it's also where b-boys and b-girls comes from along with "break"dancing).

I went to a concert full of upcoming artists last night, and I was really impressed by Phony People. It was one of the tightest shows I have seen in ages. Each member of the group is extremely talented at their respective instruments, and together they were impeccable. I was really impressed by their energy and sound quality. They were also extremely nice and grateful for the compliments. Thats enough d riding for now.

Can someone explain to me the fad of emulating the Pimp C verse when he talks about lean, his cup, and his leather and wood cars? I feel that I hear a lot of rappers starting verses in a similar way. They are just paying homage right? If so I like it.If not, I still like it.
