Anyone know of any current producers that sound like old juicy jay/DJ paul ? I've kind of out of early 3 6 stuff and the sound quality on a lot of it is really bad

I know of SGP already, hadn't heard of LUM before though.
Listened to some of the songs and the beats are great, but couldn't get into the raps. It's too bad that apparently his producer (Shawn Kemp?) hasn't produced anything else ever. Sounds like a more jazzy early hypnotize minds

New Denzel Curry (Raider Klan) album. I've been watching his work pretty heavily and he's managed to mature quite a bit compared to his previous work. The dreamy production quality really helps it.

Ugly Mane and Metro Zu on the production :swoon:

Curry doesn't seem to be the greatest rapper (not bad, but nothing special) but god drat them beats

Thug Isolation is probably my favorite album of the year, so far atleast, and Ugly mane is my favorite current producer (judging by that album and misc youtube singles). He even sampled Frayser Click, which is kind of a cool homage as his sound reminds me alot of DJ sound at times.

On the solo front Lofty305's Hashpipe Jazz and Vaglord are both a bit different than the group offering but still interesting, with the former having more Jazz based beats.

I've been listening to GKMC for about 2 days straight and it's really grown on me. Previously I would of said Mr Thug Isolation was album of the year no question but this gives it a run for its money. Very different from section.80, but it works. I still listen to MTI like once a week, wonder if this will have the same longevity

What. Thats like the last possible problem with the record

I really like the album, but I can't agree. On section.80 Kendrick really showed his skill as a lyricist on tracks like rigamortus or Hiipower. GKMC has some great tunes, but it's carried by quality beats and a shitload of choruses. The focus changed from Kendricks technically competent flow and wordplay. poo poo, Swimming pools is probably my favorite song on the album, but it pretty much perfectly exemplifys this as a 6 minute song where only like 45 seconds are actually Kendrick rapping. It works in some cases, but then you get songs like poetic justice or real where it starts to get grating.

Has anyone been listening to the new POS? I'm still not sure how to feel about it. On some tracks (like Get Down) it feels like such a huge departure from the Doomtree vibe that it's throwing me off. I'm not used to these guys writing club bangers, but on further listens I've realized that if I'm listening to club bangers I prefer this over most of the other stuff coming out these days. Then, on the other hand, there's some classic POS tracks, like gently caress Your Stuff which is basically the polar opposite of Get Down in message.

Overall the whole thing feels like it's more focused on making music for clubs/parties, as opposed to his older albums like Never Better (my personal favorite) and Ipecac Neat which were more socially conscious records about life and love and social injustice. This is disappointing but I'm not sure if it makes me dislike the album. It's much more high-energy and some of the party songs (like Weird Friends) are pretty experimental and interesting and I can't stop listening to them just because they're such a huge departure from everything else I've heard recently.

Here's my favorite track from Never Better for comparison:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0U5TXgdOmk

I haven't listened to any of POS solo stuff post Never Better, but I love it/Ipecac Neat/Audition. It definitely has a different vibe but it's still p. hot. POS started out sounding really grimy on Ipecac neat/Audition and this sounds a lot more focused and commercial, but thats not necessarily a bad thing. Going to check out the new album now. You can only rap about being pissed off at the world for so long until it gets stale, like I didn't feel that "gently caress your stuff" song at all as it sounds way too polished for what hes going for. compare to like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aSLUC3r2yHs or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DpS6puwwdEk
