I hope everyone's been listening to Indigoism from the Underachievers. Really really dope album with a lot of highlights. Self-called "conscious" rap (meaning, to them, that they take a lot of acid and eschew traditional gangsta stereotypes). Pretty tight lyricism. I see a bright future for these young guys. Free on datpiff. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCrcLYcZXKI Also, Czarface by 7L, Esoteric, and Inspectah Deck is amazing, somehow managing to sound totally classic 90s east coast but also very progressive. That one's not free. Eagerly awaiting Pusha's new album because his mixtape Wrath of Caine was super dope. Play fucked around with this message at 04:51 on Mar 6, 2013 |

ANTHM's new album came out today, its name your price on bandcamp. He's a talented young fella who raps to mostly pretty chill jazzy beats, I would check it out: http://callmeanthm.bandcamp.com/album/the-fire-next-time Apart from that, recent albums that've been doing it for me is some old Digable Planets, Run the Jewels with El-P and Killer Mike, Jay-Z's new one has some decent tracks, and Albert Einstein by Prodigy and Alchemist. Oh yes, and Mac Miller's new album, which I couldn't believe is actually pretty good.

I don't understand why the mixtape Pusha put out BEFORE My Name is My Name was actually BETTER than it. Wrath of Caine was so sick and I had really high hopes for the album after that but it comes out and everything about it was fucken weak. I thought this thread could use something a bit different so I thought I'd post some hip hop songs that appear in electronic album releases. It's not totally uncommon for this to occur in bass music and downtempo and electronica kind of stuff. I can recommend all of these songs pretty hard, the first two are the more laidback ones with the first one being a particular favorite; the second one has a pretty awful video but is still a pretty huge tune. The third one is a bit harder with a somewhat dubstep style. The fourth one is pretty wonky leftfield stuff but different is always nice. None of its grime though, which is a whole different thing. Anyways check it out I think they stand up well. If people are interested in other songs that don't usually circulate through the hip hop scene but rather the electronic one I have plenty more where this came from. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k3v6FPm36N0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GkfDeu7Mj3k https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bni5g8peTm4 https://soundcloud.com/vibesquad/chocolates-ft-dirty-mf-from

The Fresh Prince posted:Juke is a product of the Chicago House, and footwork is a product of Juke + footwork dancing. You're completely right. It sounds so much like UK Funky i guess I had assumed thats what it flowed out of, maybe with some grime thrown in. But coming from Chicago bass house actually makes more sense. I guess both UK Funky and Juke come from bassline house genres. ^^^^ Nice videos btw guy. the Joey Purp don't stop is sickquote:In March, Davis (Gucci) was arrested for hitting a man over the head with a champagne bottle at an Atlanta nightclub. The man told police the incident occurred after he tried to strike up a conversation with the rapper. sounds like a real charmer Also, is it just me or is Earl's production loving amazing? He produces under RandomBlackDude which is pretty funny but his work is really, really professional. For a guy who's so young and has only been professionally producing for like a year, LOTS of talent here. Check out the Da$h song Whale up there that he produced, then there's a bunch of others: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mos8UiWV6_g This song has some truly amazing production, really is a crime against humanity that it was given to loving mac miller. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCbWLSZrZfw I'm sure we all remember chum, amazing track. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nnqS64K4jO0 in fact when I look at the rapgenius page it seems he either produces for himself or mac miller, not sure why thats the case.. he should branch out and also say gently caress mac miller http://rapgenius.com/artists/Randomblackdude Play fucked around with this message at 06:43 on Dec 4, 2013 |

Top albums/tapes, no order: Underachievers - Indigoism Strong rapping, strong production, and I like acid. Deniro Farrar - The Patriarch Second coming of tupac. Vic Mensa - Innanetape Underrated, some really amazing tracks on here. Ka - Night's Gambit Cold as a motherfucker. Earl Sweatshirt - Doris Some weak tracks, but drat are the good tracks good. Nipsey Hustle - Crenshaw Came out of nowhere, really nice. Bishop Nehru - Strickly FLOWZ Old school style done well gotta say i dont like yeezus whatsoever I thought it had been a good year but then i went to tally and... not really. 2012 was probably better. I would definitely amend my list to include Class Struggle and also Don't Drink the Kool Aid by Denmark Vessey. I liked My 1st Chemistry Set but thought it was pretty juvenile and while the beats were super banging the rapping didn't really hold up to repeated listens. Mic Tyson was totally sweet, Port Authority 2 significantly less so. Pimpire Strikes Back was really good. Its so super chill and I wish it could stay that way but also grab my attention a little more. That could definitely be impossible. Yes, I write as if anybody gives a sweet gently caress about my opinions

Ixtlilton posted:Hello, thread! I started listening to rap about 6 months ago after someone I was carpooling with introduced me to Acid Rap and since then have gotten into something like 1 rap album/mix tape per month. That probably doesn't qualify me to make a list, and I've only been reading this thread for the past week or so, but for this year my favorite favorite album would have to be The #SWOUP Serengeti by Spark Master Tape. It featured a lot of things I liked in music before getting into rap, cool distorted vocals, good use of sampling, and some nice but not dominating bass. Honorable mentions go to Alternative Trap by Lucki Eck$, The Patriarch by Deniro Farrar, and of course, Acid Rap, by Chance The Rapper. I would say check out Innanetape by Vic Mensa, and perhaps look into Earl Sweatshirt. Also Hot Sugar's Made Man EP (and maybe Midi Murder EP), which I just got and is really quite good. It blew my mind to see Hot Sugar on here because I've been a huge fan since "The Girl Who Stole My Tomagotchi" but I thought it was just electronic and had no idea they were making beats and even put out an album until I saw it on here! http://hotsugar.bandcamp.com/track/in-out-feat-kool-ad Play fucked around with this message at 20:37 on Dec 10, 2013 |

The internet being what it is though, I imagine there is someone out there who is going through it, collating a list of quality stuff for other people, or writing articles about it, or something like that. That is what I am looking for really. I use private electronic music torrent sites and make sure to download anything labeled "beats" or "trip hop" or "hip hop" electronica stuff. Works great for me.
