I haven't paid attention to any of this stuff in months, what is the preferred rom and all that stuff?

It's been planned from the get go

About the launch of the EVO 3D I have to say that if they release it in late June or after it would be bad timing with vacation season starting. Even early June is cutting it close. I just don't see them going later than June 5th or 12th.

I imagine the release date hasn't been announced because they don't want it to kill the Nexus sales. The structure of the Best Buy preorder plan seems to indicate this as well.

Sprint is now taking preorders for the Evo3d so I can't imagine it's that far off at this point.

I honestly dont care about custom roms nearly as much as I care about rooting for tethering. What are the odds I would be able to do this with the evo 3d?

USB tethering with PdaNet or EasyTether shouldn't be a problem.

What about wifi tethering (that's what I'm using right now because there is no way in hell I would visit SA on my work connection/pc)

Wow that is seriously incredible. I'm such a cynic and never saw that coming. Especially because I figured a large part of the policy was carrier mandated.

Have there been any release date rumors for the Galaxy S 2? I'm debating between that and the Evo3D for replacing my aging HTC hero.

As far as I can tell, the rough schedule is something like

Mid-late June: Evo 3d
July: Photon
August/September: Galaxy S 2

Some sort of external sales corporate guide thing said 4th week of June so that sounds about right.

This won't be an issue if Incipio makes their awesome line of feather cases for the Evo 3D. They're <1mm thick and really nice.

What are the odds of a case that thin and a kickstand though?

Also I really want the gold ring instead of the red ring, I guess I'll need to buy a different battery cover.

Looks as thin as possible to still have the stand. I really like the kickstand on this better than the Evo 4G, this looks way less prone to tipping over.

As far as the red ring, it's not part of the cover. The Evo 4G has a red camera ring too, it's attached to the lens.

Are you sure? This makes it look like it's part of the cover http://androinica.com/2011/03/why-d...ve-a-kickstand/

I just realized, that puts the usb port on the table/whatever you put the phone on, doesn't it? Well there goes my ideas for it.

This kickstand looks to avoid that issue... but it also looks gigantic

Sense is beautiful, but I really wish there was a better element of customization, in particular maybe if the widgets weren't almost entirely all gigantic.

You know there are multiple sizes for most of the HTC widgets, right? When you're adding them you get a preview window and if you scroll left/right you can see more variations. I believe most widgets have smaller versions than the defaults (except bookmarks, of the few I looked at)

Yeah I know about those but for instance the friend stream one you either can have a full page stream, a text entry box, or a solitary friend channel. Blargh

I found the EVO 3d to have awful battery life - at first. I don't know if it was me adjusting my habits, or installing juice defender, but it has gotten a lot better as long as I get decent signal.

That said, I look at the battery meter, in particular awake time, and something wakes the phone at something like a 5 or 15 minute interval. I have no idea what it is or how to find out. I've checked all the sync settings I can find - they're all set to either manual or 1 hour+.

Am I the only one who puts their phone on a holster on their hip?

Wallet left pocket, keys around neck on a lanyard (I've got like ten of them on there, along with an SD card so they won't fit in my pocket anyway), and change in my right pocket. My phone I keep on the left side of my waist.

I got the holster and case the same day I got my NS4G. The Sprint corporate store had the same one that Best Buy had for about $30 cheaper. It doesn't have a screen protector but I never put my phone in my pocket.

If you wear your phone on a holster you might as well hike up your pleated pants to your belly button and strap on a fanny pack.

Has anyone seen a deal on the GS4 better than Amazon's $220 for an upgrade? That new customer pricing has me bitter.
