Does anyone else notice the sample from "starter" by Boys Noize in The Birds (Part 1)?

The SARS Volta posted:With the (possible) exception of a handful of shows I don't think he's profited from The Weeknd in any way, hard copies included. "High for This" was on a commercial for Entourage on HBO, and I'm sure the money he's gotten from the handful of shows that he's played is pretty heavy. His guarantee must be pretty drat high..

Fruits of the sea posted:I can definitely see The Weeknd appealing to the teeny-bopper crowd. He'd just need to hire some back-up dancers and re-write half his lyics. Hahaha I can't believe you guys think this poo poo is real. http://www.livenation.com/Aarons-Am...ta/venue/114696 not even on the schedule.

He's playing Asheville in a 1,000 person venue, I was sure tickets were going to sell out practically instantly and almost overdrafted to get tickets and it's STILL not sold out. I'm still very excited though.

Rageaholic Monkey posted:Saw him tonight, and drat his voice is amazing live. He played about every song I wanted to hear (High For This, The Party, The Knowing, DD, Wicked Games, The Morning, his part of Crew Love, etc.) and then some. Didn't do all that much on stage besides dance around a little bit, but his voice was the main attraction and that definitely did not disappoint one bit. Did he play all of DD or did he just sing the first few lines like at Coachella?

Rageaholic Monkey posted:No more than what I said. I was just letting everyone know what the show was like I don't understand why people even bother with Mike_V in this thread, all he's done is troll and whine about how The Weeknd isn't "real R&B" or whatever.

goferchan posted:I'm making a weird tentative bet that Drake might show up for this -- I know it's crazy to think of him being at the Orange Peel but it's definitely not unheard of and he (Drake) played in Raleigh a few days ago and doesn't have anymore shows until next month. Call me crazy, but you never know I had that thought too- it didn't happen, but it was stil a great show. I was pleasently surprised that he and his band were all incredibly energetic and the audience was going bananas the entire time. I didn't expect the show to be just plain fun.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWL0sd-Onbo He did a new song in Chicago. A lot of people are geeking out on it, I guess it's ok. From the looks of the video it looks like he got rid of his backing band? Which would be an incredibly stupid move because they were what brought the energy to his show. EDIT- I was wrong, he just didn't have the band with him for that song Slackerish fucked around with this message at Sep 25, 2012 around 00:50 |

Reverend Rath posted:The Weeknd is all over Wiz Khalifa's new single and I absolutely love it. Khalifa's lyrics and flow are crap (surprise!) but the beat and The Weeknd are on-point.

Reverend Rath posted:It wasn't that bad but ending with that awkward lemonade line was hosed. I preferred his 2nd verse, fit the song more. I gave up on Khalifa like two years ago and listened to this track because of The Weeknd- I figured by now he'd start rapping about things other than how much money he makes and how much weed he smokes but noooope.

thathonkey posted:Are there any songs that were actually improved on Trilogy because so far all of these new mixes are terrible. Especially "What You Need" - ruined. So it's because they couldn't clear the Aaliyah sample? That is weak poo poo. I haven't listened to much of it but I think "The Zone" has gone from a good song to a great song .

SgtScruffy posted:I saw The Weeknd a few months ago, and honestly I wasn't impressed - though I think that mainly has to do with the energy level (or lack thereof) of the audience. People went crazy and loudly sang along to "High for This", the first song, but after that people just sorta lightly bobbed their heads and sang along quietly. That sucks. I saw him back in June and the energy level was through the roof, there wasn't a single song that wasn't sung along to. He also played a full version of DD which was a real treat- and his performance was about an hour and a half long, sucks it was so short for you guys.

Nails posted:I think really where it comes from is that this sort of ends the discussion about whether Trilogy was a narrative about a character or a series of albums that served as his diary, unless you were to assume that Kissland is a continuation of it somehow, which I suppose is possible. The second half of the song sounds very autobiographical. I mean it starts with "I got a brand new place, I think I've seen it twice all year" and he goes on to talk about touring. I'm gonna n'th the "it's misogynistic but so are a lot of his songs" thing.
