1-3 and 3-3 are fantastic, what are you guys talking about? They have the two most interesting witnesses (in terms of the origins of their contradictions) in the series, and the final confrontation with the criminal in 3-3 is one of my favorites.

Can I echo this guy? It's been a while since I've played the second and third games (I play them every year and yet, somehow, my memory gets totally erased of it all by the time I play them again a year later). From what I've worked on 1-3 for the LP, it's... not as bad as I had remembered it. I mean, the worst thing I can say for it is that it's the least interesting of all the cases in the first game (serious lack of music during investigation phase, what the hell!? I'm tired of hearing birds chirping!), but that's honestly my only critique of it so far.

2-3 was something else, though. The atmosphere felt very different from what the series had offered prior to it, but I've loved it nonetheless. It had such great moments (and the final witness's breakdown was a tear jerker). It's probably my most favourite case of the second game.

edit: oh wait holy snaps, we're talking about 3-3, not 2-3. Wow I'm such an idiot.

1-3 is one of the ones I haven't played. I guess 3-3 has great characters, and it's fine once it gets going, but man does it take a long time to get going. The section with the mirror in the room was annoying for me, not just because I'm one of those people who has trouble visualizing right and left sometimes, but also because it turned out to be more or less a complete waste of time. Also the final confrontation involves Phoenix playing really fast and loose. Granted, it could be rationalized as a slightly more involved bluff, which is pretty much how it shakes out, but it just slightly breaks character with how I'd expected Phoenix to act at that point.

The biggest issue I have with 1-3 is that it's unfortunate enough to be in the same game as 1-4 and 1-5, which both overshadow it massively. There's some other issues I have with it too, but one of them is more a retroactive thing than an issue with the case itself. When you have Oldbag in the same amount of games as Phoenix, there's something wrong.

As for 3-3, I kinda dislike how you have to get the resolution. It's not particularly imaginative and I think they sorta wrote themselves into a corner if that was how they had to do it. Still beats the denouement (and completely pointless and arbitrary "twist") of 1-2, but that's not particularly hard.

Hereby it is manifest that during the time men live without a common power to keep them all in awe, they are in that condition which is called war; and such a war as is of every man against every man.

3-3 and 1-2 are both Phoenix basically bluffing his way to wins in a way that if Furio Tigre were at all smart or if Redd White were half as smart as he thought he was both would have easily avoided. Oddly, enough, the same tactic of bluffing when the witness could've walked if he'd kept his mouth shut was the answer in 4-3.

I have mixed feelings about that inevitable point in the case when the guilty guy is so obviously guilty that even the prosecutor ditches him, but the witness is still shouting, "OK, you have me at the murder, you have me possessing the murder weapon, you have a rock-solid motive, and you've proven that I'm literally the only person who could've done it, but you haven't expressly proven I pulled the trigger." I guess that's what 4-4 was all about : The Jurists will have none of that poo poo.

Thanks to all you guys who recommended Ghost Trick in this thread. I was lucky enough to find a used copy a couple days ago, and blazed through it. Goddamn, this is better than almost all the Ace Attorney games, save T&T (the best forever, Godot owns). Missile is the best character. Just...my god, now for some reason I kind of want a Pomeranian.

Speaking of iOS, the HD trilogy has been dated-ish.

http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/29/p...-ios-this-fall/

It'll be on iOS5, so probably sometime after the (rumored) September 21st launch of the new iPhone. Prices are also missing but I'd bet on $5 for each.

In other news, the Ace Attorney movie is now flying around the internet but no one has subbed it in English yet. No announced date on the english release either.

iOS 5 is already out, and has been for a while. It's iOS6 that probably won't be released until the phone comes out--We should hear about the final beta coming soon-ish; it's been surprisingly stable the entire way through.

I'd be pretty happy with $5/ea- there has been a lot of DS ports coming out recently at the $20-30 mark, which is a bit more than I'm willing to pay for them. Hopefully $5-10 is a good, profitable point for them.

Oops, you're right, I misread/thought that. Thanks.

I got the first AA for $2 on iOS when it was on sale, and I think it started at $6.

Capcom seem to know how to port DS games to iOS, what with giving a good portion of the game as a demo and letting you buy it at a reasonable price from there, if Ghost Trick is anything to go by.

I've already played PW1-3 about 3 or 4 times through, but I'm tempted to buy the lot just to support Capcom with what they're doing! The only thing that would make it perfect would it being an iPhone/iPad universal app with iCloud for the save games, like how Infinity Blade does it.

I've been wanting to play through the PW games again for a while now, so this is definitely something I'll be picking up. It's just 1-3 though right? So I still need a DS-type thing if I want to play Apollo Justice. (or the Edgeworth games but those are a seperate series so I wouldn't expect them in there)

The Blu-ray disc of the Ace Attorney movie just came in the mail today. The movie was exactly as I had expected:

Wacky. courtroom. drama.

They've done such an incredible job with the props and game-to-movie adaption solutions for this movie. Some things I had barely expected to see, but they were all there, prominently displayed in all of their freaking glory. Since I've played this game series way more than I can count, I can't give an un-biased opinion about the movie for people who are not familiar with the games. But as a fan, I absolutely adored this thing and I couldn't help but smile the whole way through.

Movie spoilers Oh my gosh, Yani Yogi at the end. I felt bad for him during the game, but the movie adaption made it just so freaking sad. I almost shed a tear during that scene, the poor guy. And is it just me, or did the director decide to cut out some content from the movie? Some scene transitions were made way too quickly or didn't make any sense. I have a feeling that this movie was intended to last longer.

I've never played a Phoenix Wright game before, but I'm very interested in it. Does basically every court case have Phoenix pointing and yelling, "Objection?", because that's what I can gather from this game thus far with references to it from goons.

It's half point-and-click adventure game, half courtroom scenes where you answer questions and go over witness testimony. You do indeed yell Objection! to a lot of things when covering witnesses, in particular. At least three times per case, usually much more.

Lack of electricity... is my destiny...

In terms of difficulty, it's also a pretty much a monotonic increase across the games, so on that front the first game is probably your best bet, too.

Be warned of the main exception: the fifth case of the first game, "Rise from the Ashes", is a bit of a bonus case. The games were originally released in Japan without it, and when the DS remakes came out, this fifth case was added. Consequently, it's a lot more complicated and can be more difficult at times.

There are some fansubs that came out recently, but they're a separate file you have to apply yourself. They're not flawless, but they're perfectly serviceable. I'd link them, but I'm not sure if it would count as or not.

Also yes, the movie is really good and I can't wait for it to come out in America (if it ever does, the only international release confirmed is German) so I can show it to all my friends.

BECAUSE EVERYONE LOVES PHOENIX.

Large part of the reason as to why he was forced into the game in Apollo, quite frankly that hurt the character considerably since he was never given a chance to shine, it was either that rock star prosecutor leading him around or Phoenix taking over.

Curious as to how his character will play, will he still the same insecure guy? Or will he be more like his AP self, being confident in everything(ala edgeworth in PW3).
