After resisting the temptation to shout gently caress YOU at anyone with something remotely bad to say about this upcoming title and then calming down a little, I am now ready to post. Sort of. I play a million, billion games and have done since I was 4. that's 24 years of games. Lots of games. All the time. I haven't fallen in love with any other videogame series as hard as I have with Hitman, by a long, long way. I'm not saying it's the best game ever (it's a very, very good one, mind) but I am super hotgay for this drat series. If they include proper ragdoll physics and keep the push action, I will explode with joy. If they add other stuff, like levels and stuff, I might asphyxiate. For those asking, I would say start with Contracts and then Blood Money. Contracts isn't as solid as Blood Money, but the missions are dark as gently caress and I love them for it. Blood Money goes much more along the lines of black humour. There's nothing like sneaking up on your victim in his rich suburban home, dressed as a clown, only to break the back of his skull with a well placed hammer strike. That's Blood Money, the less dark one, by the way. Also, for anyone casting doubts over whether IO will dumb it down or whatever, I really wouldn't even bother entertaining the idea. They know their IP and they know the fans are rabid for it (see: me and ridiculousness) so the format will simply be iterated and improved. What makes the series unique for me is that the freedoms we usually associate with an "open world" game tend to be with wanting to wander off in any direction. They nailed the idea that the freedom of choice can come from choosing how to eliminate your target, give you a wealth of variety. Here's your target, here are your conditions, here are the tools, go do it. In no other game have I been able to dress up as Santa Claus and throw a kitchen knife off a second floor balcony into the balls of a man below sat in a large jacuzzi with two bikini models. And be rewarded for it. loving HITMAN!

That sounds awesome! My favorite Hitman song (Hitman 2 - Japanese Mansion): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHsX6DUsU8o Because when you've just killed the main target and you're walking back down the castle with the silenced pistol and the track starts playing like at 0:28, you feel like a loving badass. This is great news, I just hope someone at the ICA hires 47 to assassinate Kane and Lynch. With all the dead civilians out there someone must have had a rich relative. The earliest announcements for Blood Money hinted at it being "open world" more along the lines of GTA rather than like Deus Ex and Hitman series. Hopefully they don't go anywhere near that route with this one as Blood Money was basically perfect.

The thing I loved most about Hitman was how if a hit went south and something went wrong, you could improvise and still pull it off. I remember Hitman 2 threw you a couple of curveballs, like giving you a sniper rifle loaded with blanks and sending other bald hitmen after you, and being able to cope with them made it so much more satisfying.

I loved the levels that were homages to great assassination movies/scenes like the La Femme Nikita/party level in Hitman 2 and the Godfather 3/opera house in Blood Money. I watched my friend play through a couple levels of it years ago, it didn't look any different from the second one It's not that it's completely different so much as that each successive Hitman game makes a ton of small refinements to the engine/controls/details/level design. The main thing with Blood Money is that none of the levels have time limits (until you initiate stuff) and it's usually much easier to get a disguise near the beginning of each. So you have much more freedom to walk around and take your time planning everything out and experimenting. The levels are more realistic too as you're not in situations like in Hitman 2 with the Japanese snow fortress level. A level that was total bullshit because you could be disguised as the guards, which involves wearing their uniform and a face mask, in the middle of a snowstorm, and yet snipers a mile away would somehow still spot you. Then once you got closer the truck patrols would sometimes glitch and run over their own guards, which would magically make everyone aware that you were there. I also think they balanced how the NPCs respond your actions perfectly in Blood Money. In Hitman 2 I felt like sometimes guys would open fire on me almost out of nowhere, and that Contracts was at the opposite extreme where you could often run right up to armed guards and they wouldn't even notice you. Basically if you like Hitman 2 you'll like Blood Money a lot, it's the same stuff but better.

Goddammit, you guys have totally made me order Blood Money for 360. Not that that's a bad thing, though. I just wasn't planning on buying any more games for a while. I could never, ever, EVER co-ordinate myself well enough to pull off a Silent Assassin rank. The one thing I would really enjoy in the next game would perhaps be a 'Recon Mode' or something. Let me explain... You know how you go into the level for the first time and absolutely suck, but each time after that, you get to know the lay of the land, so to speak? I find that kind of unrealistic. Some of these things you wouldn't have any idea where they are unless you had been there before, sometimes many times over. I would really like an option to 'visit' the level beforehand, maybe as a side-character helping 47/the Agency, and that person would do recon for 47. No weapons, nothing like that, but you'd have the ability to scope out everything beforehand. Obviously, this wouldn't be possibly with every level, but some of the more public ones could definitely use this sort of thing. EDIT: And maybe there would be a 'classic' and 'advanced' mode to play in. Classic would be the same as all the previous Hitman games, whereas advanced would require you to go to a location and scout it out/make in-game notes/take pictures, and perhaps even set up some things for 47, like weapon drops, suits, tools, etc. Rupert Buttermilk fucked around with this message at Apr 28, 2011 around 16:19 |

Well in most levels you are generally free to wander around and do so, nabbing an appropriate disguise helps. Half the fun is working out the lay of the land, it's daunting at first. The fun thing is this game has stacks of re-playability as there's all sorts of amusing ways you can interact with targets plus you unlock and upgrade weapons throughout allowing for more elaborate attempts. Silent Assassinations are really rewarding as a result, they're meant to be gained as a result of replays, unless you're some covert ops bloke who can read irrational AI.

Hitman 2 sucks because half of the missions are in military bases and your sneak speed is so loving slow. Plus enemies are loving paranoid as gently caress. Plus you have that hidden valley level with all the trucks and ninjas, arrrgh gently caress that game. Hitman Contracts is pretty good except that a lot of the missions pretty much demand that you drop all of your weapons since you will get searched soon after. Not to mention that some missions had solutions that you would be a idiot NOT to use them. There is no point to not use the disguise of one of your targets in the Bjararov bomb.

Which game had the level with that long-ish, split-level resort where your target is spending time at because of stress? (I could have this totally wrong, it's been a while). You have to steal a CCTV tape, and at one point, your victim goes to lift weights, and you can kill him there. Everyone's wearing a bathrobe. I want to say Blood Money, but I can't recall. Anyway, I loved it.

Totally stoked for a new hitman game it was inevitable there was going to be another one, you don't drop a series that drat awesome. I never did find out what good the air rifle in the tree house was in the suburbs level, I managed to silent assassin it, but could never figure out what good that treehouse was.
