I think when you include the on screen buttons it comes out to about 4.3 inches, 4.65 inch screen size though. Also the Gnex screen will make your DX screen look like babby's first smartphone screen.

stormrider posted:I haven't seen a Nexus in person yet. How does its screen compare to the droid x? Am I going to miss the extra real estate? I made the same switch you're about to. The Nexus is a lot bigger. I've got large hands and it's the upper limit in terms of size for what I would use. The screen is nicer, but coming from the X you will probably notice the PenTile display. It took me a bit before I could ignore it, and I can still see it sometimes. I keep my X around the house for doing whatever and I think that 4.3" is pretty much the perfect screen size. The hardware button placement on the Nexus mess you up for a while. I still find myself feeling around for a power button at the top of the device. Due to the lack of hardware buttons, I'll occasionally find myself holding it upside-down and wondering why the display isn't moving from landscape. Go try one in the store.

On the opposite side of this, if you have small hands then you may hate it. I had a Bionic for a week until I couldn't stand having to constantly adjust my hand position on the phone just to reach all corners of the screen. Loved the phone but I think anything over 4" is too big for my thumb to reach.

Yeah, the Moto ICS timeline lists the international RAZR as due for ICS in Q2, while the Verizon RAZR is still "in evaluation and planning." The good news is that the Verizon RAZR and MAXX apparently run identical software, so if/when Moto decides to grace the LTE versions with ICS, it should be available for both at the same time. Whenever that ends up being. Anyway, uh, I hear Samsung sucks at updating their phones.

The Razr uses the MDM6600 CDMA/GSM chipset like the iPhone so it's very likely the international version is exactly the same radio chipset as the Verizon one. The only difference in the Verizon one is the LTE addition grafted on. Droid3/Bionic/Razr/Razr MAXX/Droid4 are all essentially the same handset. Droid3 is the only odd one out with half the amount of ram and no LTE. bull3964 fucked around with this message at 23:02 on Mar 15, 2012 |

I was all set to pull the trigger on an iPhone 4S today because it's the first day I'm eligible for an upgrade and my Incredible has been generally making GBS threads itself for a couple months now. However, the reps at the Verizon store said my area will have 4G service by the end of the year. How much would I be kicking myself if I went ahead and got the 4S? How much better is 4G than 3G I guess would be the question. I'd like to know from real people rather than the salesperson.

Yeah, my point was that the GSM version was scheduled for an update, while the LTE was still pending evaluation, but once that evaluation is over, there won't be a dichotomy between the RAZR and the MAXX. edit: To clarify, we can treat the VZW RAZR and MAXX as one device for update-watching purposes. And we have no idea when that'll be, since the GSM RAZR has a tentative timeline while the LTE phones do not. Penguissimo fucked around with this message at 00:01 on Mar 16, 2012 |

Get a 4S and case, sell it for 80% of msrp a week before the next iPhone is out and buy it unsubsidized. Or a 4G phone if you really want went 3G hits your area.

I thought about this when buying a 4S but I couldn't help but think the resale value of a Verizon 4S would drop a fair bit when an LTE model comes out. An AT&T model wouldn't really have this problem because the HSPA+ is still decently fast. But assuming they can hit it out of the park with regard to battery life in an LTE iPhone the way they have with the LTE iPad, I dunno why you'd spend $480 on a used EVDO 4S when $120 more would get you something that would smoke it.

^^ If that was the case, the Wifi version should've had a drastic increase in battery life. Sadly, I think 4G doesn't draw as much power as a 2048x1536 screen and a quad-core graphics chip.
