So I've been out of the phone game for a while, but my wife would like an iPhone 5S and we'd love to go shop for one tomorrow. Are they in stock at Verizon stores or is it a "keep checking online until they are in stock" sorta thing? Also, we have a standard 2gb family plan sorta thing or whatever VZN calls it, does possessing an iPhone change any of that or can all remain as is?

As a Verizon customer for a whole 2 days, I just went through buying an iPhone 5S for one of my lines on my plan. They seem to be in stock everywhere (we ended up buying from Best Buy mobile, but the Verizon store near me had a bunch of them too). Having an iPhone on the plan had no bearing on being on a Share Everything plan.

What are the chances of me getting out of the three activation fees I'll probably be incurring as a new customer? Is Verizon any easier or harder (or impossible?) to get out of them?

Yeah I missed the promotion by 4 days. I guess I can't bitch too hard I got a Moto X and an S4 for free and a super cheap iPhone 5S. But I'd still like to try and make up for some of the ETF I paid to Sprint. I guess I'll try to haggle with their CS people.

Thank God that Verizon has open enrollment for insurance right now. My wife dropped her 1 month old Galaxy S4 here in Disney, land of rounded stone floors and shattered her screen.

Is it really only 99 to get a replacement through that? When I was on Sprint the deductible was stupid high.

I just went through with a warranty replacement of my wife's brand new S4 after shattering the screen in friggin Disney. They sent us a brand new charger and headphones. Do I have to return the original headphones and charger with the broken phone, or are those free bonus items?

Also holy crap the shipping with Asurion is magical. Finished the warranty claim at 11:30PM EST last night, phone at front door 9:30AM today. What the hell kind of voodoo is that. I love it.

Speaking of phone replacements under warranty and insurance; isn't the whole point of SIM cards account device portability? My wife is on her third Galaxy S4 (first was an exchange under warranty during her 14 day trial due to a weird glitch I couldn't find anywhere online, and the second due to a cracked screen). Each time she was giving a brand new SIM card. I expected to just move the SIM from phone to phone. I'm guessing this has to do with Verizon being a pseudo GSM 4G / CDMA bastard child right now.

I imagine they give you a brand new SIM with a replacement as just a matter of policy, because not everyone has a working or intact SIM prior to requesting a replacement, and it's easier from a warehousing and support standpoint to just give a new one to everyone and not think about it.

If you dunked your phone in the toilet I wouldn't trust the SIM to work right, for example. The cost of a new SIM is probably a tiny fraction of the support cost that Verizon would incur if you called in or went into a store to troubleshoot your freshly-replaced phone after the fact and the problem was your SIM. And if you lost your phone or got it stolen, you certainly don't have a SIM on hand at all.

I suppose this makes sense, sure. Thanks.

I think I'm still within the 30 day period of being able to sign up for equipment protection. Should I do this to get a new phone? Is it a pain in the rear end with lots of loopholes or do I just sign up, wait a month and call in the claim? Also, I'm just one of the lines on a family plan and used one of the line upgrades to get the new phone. Will they still let me sign up for equipment protection or is it for brand new accounts only?

I did this exact thing when my wife broke her S4. Don't need to wait a month. I put the claim in like 3 days after getting my confirmation email that I got enrolled (which took 1 day). 99 bucks and some quick paperwork, you will have a new phone the next day.

Edit: looks like open enrollment ended on March 8th.

Apparently the Early Edge thing right now is still only Droid Turbo. I'm told that it's usually available on any phone. Web customer service suggested I try calling Telesales to see if they will let me move one of my lines to Edge on any phone. Is Verizon telesales at all reasonable? Any idea on the chances of this happening?

As I understand it, there are two separate promotions. One, Early Edge, only becomes available (assuming you meet the general edge requirements like good payment history) after a year into your contract. Early Edge for droid turbo/maxx is separate, and I've seen it pop up before the customer was a year old, like, just a few months into the contract.

There is some confusion in regards to all that. Is early edge for droid an additional promotion that pops early along side regular early edge? Does early edge for droid overright regular? Are old promotions come customers grandfathered? No loving clue.

Yeah, I'm about a year into our contract right now. I got the Droid Turbo on the early edge thing when it first came out. I guess the only answer for me is to just call.

this sweet move posted:

No. You can't buy out your contract early to get 2 year pricing earlier.

There is a standardized policy in place that will let you upgrade 7 days early through customer service or a store.

You might qualify for Early Edge which would involve turning in your existing phone and then starting a new agreement on the Edge payment plan.

Not everyone qualifies but CS can check your account if you call in. Currently this promo is set to end 3/31/15 but that might change.

Again this for the Edge program not 2-year contract.

There is no way to get an upgrade early unless approved by management. This typically does not get approved if your reason is "I just want it." If you lie and say your phone was stolen and maybe cry and scream a bit you might get it but please don't do this.

What usually determines if you are eligible for early edge? All 3 of my lines were eligible in november, but only for the Droid Turbo which I went and used, trading in my Droid Maxx. I was 11 months into my 2 year contract. My other two lines still show early edge eligibility. Every phone on the website only shows full price instead of Edge pricing, and the CS at a store said they are only eligible to Early Edge to a Droid Maxx. Is there a situation where you can get any phone on Early Edge?

It's a promotion that has changes a lot the past few months. Originally, if you were edge eligible (past six months good payments, good credit, etc) and at least a year into your contract, you could Early Edge to any phone.

Then, to support the turbo, they made it where you could only upgrade to the Turbo, but a lot of people could do this early Turbo upgrade even if they got their current phone half a year ago.

Well, Turbo stock became short, so they so changed the promo be the turbo and Maxx, then just the Maxx, and then only when your contract was six months from ending.

Now, the droid early edge promo Is over, but that just means no new accounts will get it. Accounts that had the promo might still have it. I also know that Early Edge is back to any phone, but again, a lot of people still have the old promo where it's just the Maxx.

I don't know, Verizon literally changes this poo poo once a month. I just know right now both types of Early Edge, Maxx and any phone, are showing up on people's accounts with no rhyme or reason.

That's how it looks. When I pick a Droid Maxx just to see what happens, it shows only full price, but CS says that's what I can get. What a great system! I'll just keep an eye on it every once in awhile, my wife wants off her S4, she hates it so.

Thanks for the info!

I just like GV because I can listen to my messages from a computer if I want.

According to the Google Voice set up instructions, they specifically say for Verizon to do three different code:
*71[Your Google Voice number]
*90[Your Google Voice number]
*92[Your Google Voice number]

I'm not sure the difference in them, but I just do all three and so far, it's forwarding correctly with Advanced Calling enabled.

When I preordered my iPhone 7, the shipping address was locked to my mother's (she's the main account holder) billing address. She lives over 300 miles away. Will Verizon change the shipping info to my house instead if my mother were to call and request that? Kind of a letdown that I have to wait for the phone to get to her place, and then wait presumably another week after she goes to the post office and sends the phone hundreds of miles in another direction.

Short answer is no. I called to see if I could change mine to my work because I was worried no one would be home to sign for it, and was told the only way was they could cancel the order and reorder, which I was unwilling to do.

I ordered my wife an iPhone 7+ 256GB in Rose Gold on Oct 27th. It was scheduled to ship on 11/9 and on the day of shipping, I got an email that it's pushed back to 12/5. OK, whatever. My order page on my Verizon account reflected this information. Now as of yesterday, my order no longer has a status when looked at on the computer, and if I look at the order on the phone app, it doesn't exist.
