I guess I should have confirmed this before buying a cheap Pixi from Amazon to replace a feature phone: Do I need to be in a contract in order to keep unlimited data, or can I simply have unlimited data on my month-to-month plan to keep it? There seems to be conflicting info on various web sites.

Anybody here have the Droid 3? I travel internationally a few times a year and having the SIM card slot seems like a cool feature. Are there other Verizon phones that do that? My current phone is the Pre+ and I have no desire to upgrade for upgrading sake, but the Droid 3 looks like it has everything I want. But Blur, something I'm not too knowledgeable about seems to drag the phone down. The Droid 2 Global never got good reviews either. What happened to the 2 and 3 that made it so much shittier than the 1? Can I put just plain Android on it?

After reading up some more it looks like the D3 has a ridiculous return rate and I'm rally looking for a solid phone. I see the htc trophy has amazing, almost flawless reviews on Verizon and amazon which is almost unheard of for smart phones. It's only $30 on Verizon online. What are the opinions on these? I'm especially concerned with battery life and solid uptime, good speaker phone and standards compatible browser with flash. Does this $30 phone have all that? I would love to have a phone on standby most of the day and still have at least 75% of its battery left.

Can any Verizon employee confirm what I read in other forums: If you have a lovely connection (we're talking one or two bars, constant dropped calls), Verizon will work with you and discount the cost of their network extender? Someone on another forum said they got the new $250 3G extender for $50. Not that I'm expecting such a discount but any amount off an item that's quickly becoming a necessity would be great. What kind of language or things should I say that would persuade them? Any special programs to mention?

How are people selling the HTC Trophy brand new for so low on ebay? I've seen several go for $200 and I got mine for $250. One of the sellers mentioned getting one as a door prize but having AT&T so he's selling it. Are people selling the free ones when signing up for a new account and buying their own phone outright? So far it's a pretty drat cool phone. I thought I was fine with the Pre+ but wow is the soft keyboard on this way better than the lovely hardware one on the Pre. It's even smoother than my overclocked and patched/hacked Pre. I just don't like that I have to go into all these settings to modify gps, push/download schedule. Half of the programs want location. And WP7 really needs a dominoes game. Bad. PorkFat fucked around with this message at Oct 27, 2011 around 15:26 |

The OS is buttery smooth and the Trophy is one of the highest rated phones on Amazon and Verizonewireless.com Not regretting the purchase at all. Except I have to use Words by Post instead of Words with Friends. But neither are on WebOS, so it's all good.

Rent posted:Generally if a random app wants GPS, it's to provide location-based advertising. Are they free apps with ads? I actually used your recommendation almost completely to buy the phone without trying it much at all at the store. I got it on eBay brand new for half the cost that Verizon wanted off contract. After seeing the overwhelming positive reviews on Amazon and Verizon along with your little write up of it, I couldn't say no. I wish there was a built-in way to control everything at once that drains the battery - GPS, email, background apps etc. Kind of like Windows Task Manager, I can see what's eating up my power. It could also have the actual battery percentage on there too, instead of looking it up through the battery saver setting two menus in. I did find a cool app to pin that controls wi fi and 3G that I use a lot. The only downside to having a Windows phone is the drat Zune software required for updates and music. What a pile of garbage that is. iTunes is so much better. Why no OTA updates? PorkFat fucked around with this message at Oct 30, 2011 around 00:57 |

I just sold a brand new iPhone 4S to someone on SA Mart. What do I need to do to prevent that phone from bumping my existing phone off the network when he turns it on? I just realized it would do that when the other iPhone I turned on today did that to my Trophy. I need to make sure that my other phone won't get disconnected as that person is 4 states away. Can I quickly put that esn on the account and switch it back to prevent it from doing it automatically later? Or do I need to talk to a rep in store or on the phone? This one I turned on, I went through the setup process and it bumped my other phone off. The only password I input was for my Apple ID. There was no indication it would do this and I have no idea at what step it did this.My thought was that Verizonwireless.com (who I purchased it from) put the ESN on some access list so that it connected to he network without any intervention. Nice feature unless you're selling the ohone or just want to mess with it, like me. Do I have that wrong? Otherwise, how did it connect?

No, not a new line. No, I never dialed *228. Does the iPhone 4S do it itself as part of the setup process? Let's say I did (but I swear I didn't - I didn't even know how to dial the phone to check I had service when troublshooting) and the new owner dials *228, wouldn't he just take my line anyway? Otherwise, how would it know what phone number to take control of if it weren't pre-registered? I'll just go into the store for lunch, I guess. OK... Verizon is confusing the hell out of me. What, exactly, do I need to ask for to allow my 4S and Trophy (both global phones) to be able to use Korean SIM cards when I'm over there? I went to the real Verizon store in town and they claim that they need an entirely different system (they rambled off some acronym/initialism like MCRD or something) in order to set my phones up for foreign SIM usage. They directed me to the customer care number. I called and told them what I wanted. They registered the pre-existing SIM and set me up for Global and International services with some ridiculous $1.99 rate. I don't think this is what I wanted. I asked the customer care rep what I could do to use foreign SIMs and he said I would need to register them with Verizon when I got there but that doesn't sound right. I thought if you got a foreign SIM, you got a local number for however long the SIM was good for. So, what am I supposed to do?

If not, and the local store (brand new place, by the way) claims it doesn't have the equipment to do it, what can I do? I leave for Korea in a couple of months. Will Best Buy or those places in the mall do it?

Cool, thank you all for your help. I'll just stick to unlocking my Trophy right now and ask specifically to unlock it for global SIM usage. I'll see what they say. Is everybody I'm dealing with being obtuse on purpose in order to avoid this procedure? I see unlocked phones going for much higher prices on eBay so I'm guessing that has something to do with it. Does the store actually have to have a specific "system" or "setup" in order to unlock it or are they blowing smoke up my rear end? Oh, and on a separate note, I talked with customer care and they offered %25 off a 3G network extender, which is better than nothing considering it's my house's metal roof blocking my signal and not a tower condition.

Those with 3G network extenders: is your system light slowly blinking red? I tried connecting it straight to my cable modem and get the same indication. All other lights are blue (good). *Edit* After many resets and waiting a while, the light finally came up on its own. PorkFat fucked around with this message at Feb 16, 2012 around 19:20 |
