Carpe Noctem

Just moved back home, and my room is currently a mess, but I got my computer setup up and running (mostly, need to find a VGA to DVI adapter to get my second screen up and running), and my TV (which I up until now used as my main monitor) with the 360 and a DVD player and some lovely speakers are also ready.
There's room for one in my sofa, and that's all I need for the moment.

I cleaned up a bit and dusted for this. My parents got me the 32" Sony last year (I paid it off to them over the next few months) and it's one of the best purchases I've ever made. I can't go back to a single-monitor setup anymore...too fun watching something on one screen and puttering around the internet on the main (24" HP w2408).

They are inexpensive, balanced and nearly indestructible. Comparable to a Nice Digital DSLR, you can get better, but for most "prosumers" KRK is where it's at.

Alright, I got home and finished getting the cave set back up. Here are my results.

Got my fridge, guitar, alarm clock, my scanner, some binders, a sketchpad, PSP, My Laptop, etc...

I used to have a second monitor up where the incense burner is up on the shelf but it finally kicked the bucket so I'm down to the one monitor. No bottle of milk, but my gun is there. Also a bottle of Cuervo.

Technics SL-3200 turn table with a Stanton N400 cartridgee (There's a George Carlin album on there if anyone is curious), Technics RS-B105 Casette Deck (Got a Genesis Live Recording in there), both are running into a Denon DRA-25 which I also have my computer running into. Below that are my PS2, PSX, Saturn, Genesis, Gamecube, and Dreamcast games.

edit: Sorry for lovely cellphone pics, it's the only camera I own right now.

They're self-powered, why the heck would you want to? The Denon would need some sort of line out option for that to work.

After all the OCD'ly neat desks, I thank you comradephate for not making me feel like a completely untidy goon.

My only camera is my mobile and it takes poo poo photos.

Its an older photo, as lovely as it is, its much better than my current one takes, so it's what you get. The only difference is a second tower to the right of the screen (probably out of that view anyhow) and a 22" flat panel. And no...that's not eve online

Since mine isn't much to look at, here's a picture from my buddy's apartment from a couple years ago. Still pretty much the same these days, with less crt and more flat panel and more power drain.

Another failed muso. The desk is around 10 years old, by Anthro. It's on wheels, and it is very sturdy, as in you could dance on it if you cared to.

I had a set of studio speakers, but they sounded harsh and nasty, so I am using gaming speakers from Cambridge Soundworks, which are hiding in the back. They were cheap, but the sub is good and they sound more musical to me.

The foam behind the speakers is part of the acoustic room treatment I did to improve the listening conditions. If you try it, shop at Markertek.com where the prices are reasonable.

Other muso nonsense left to right: Oxygen 8 keyboard, JL Cooper CS-32 midi mixer controller, Edirol MX-16 USB audio interface, Roland 3030D Dimensional Space Reverb underneath. Roland Handsonic electronic drum kit for the live beats. Software is Logic Pro and Reaktor.

Mac keyboard and a PC? It's a hackintosh, shh!

I have two at home and three at work. At home I offset the second monitor so I'm looking at the primary and then look to the right for the other one. Staring at a divide or turning my head to play games would drive me nuts.

If you're bothered by offsetting them, then yeah go for 3.

Yeah, this is pretty much what I was thinking. I wouldn't place the monitors so the divide was directly in front of me, I'd have a main and a side monitor, or "sides" if you have three.

Then there's the economical questions of the triple monitor setup. "What can I do with three that I can't do with two?" and that kind of thing. I mean if your job requires it, fine, but for the average guy who uses a computer for recreation? Two I can understand pretty easily. Internet/gaming/file browsing on the main and movie watching/chat program/music player/email reader on the side, etc. I'd imagine that unless you're the multitaskingest dude around, there's pretty much no reason to even think of using three other than "because it's cool."

At work I have my programming stuff on one, reference stuff in the middle, and a terminal open on the right.

At home I mostly do level design, but I would use 3 in pretty much the same way, just swapping the design program and the reference locations, then the third for IM stuff. My roommate stretched UT3 across all three of his crazy huge monitors and thats pretty much all he did with them.
