Has anyone had this China experience besides me? Considering this is the fourth or fifth time it's happened, I'm guessing someone probably has.

I'll meet a girl, she'll be cool, I'll ask her for her number, she'll gladly give it to me, I'll text her asking her to go out, she says yes, we go out and have a good time, talk about meeting again, girl will be enthusiastic about it, in between the first and second date at some point she'll mention her boyfriend that was never brought up before and and never mentioned in any way and there were never even any implications that a boyfriend even existed.

poo poo is frustrating.

I'm American, so I'm used to asking a girl for her number or asking her to go out and being told "sorry, I have a boyfriend,” which hasn't happened to me here until after the date, and then it's not like a "sorry" it's like a she'll just mention him out of context or something.

Of course this has happened to me in America, but only once or twice in like the seven years I was dating, whereas here in Beijing it's happened four or five times in four months, and just happened twice in a week.

Besides this whole thing though, life here is great!

"In the technology, Shanghai Trading company should improve the size of clothes. Because the measurements are different between different countries. Chinese measurement is centimeter, and the European measurement is inch. Because of the western are stronger than Chinese, the clothes version should be fatter. In the law, the quality of clothes must be high. The label should use the language of target country and contain the shell fabric, washing methods, if it can direct contact with the skin, if its formaldehyde content is standard. And according to the case, its prices are viewed as highly competitive averaging 25% below European competitors. It has a price advantage. But it could lead to price discrimination and dumping. So Shanghai Trading company should not lowered the price so much."

One of my friends asked me to correct her paper and this masterpiece came out of it. My favorite part is where it says the label on a piece of clothing should indicate whether or not it can touch the skin.

I'm doing a quick trip to Hong Kong today to pick up my phone from the HTC repair centre. I'm looking forward to it because it always feels less oppressive than SZ. Its a breath of fresh air when people actually queue for lines, cars obey crosswalks, and nongs don't scream 'hello' as they drive by on their rickshaws.

Bonus story: I was biking to work today and a driver in a silver BMW opened his car door. I wasn't going too fast, but I still crashed into it and left a pretty decent scratch. I told him to be careful, and he started screaming incomphrehensible poo poo at me. I just told him to gently caress off and biked off, unscathed.

I love it when people yell HELLO at me and I say something like "hey how are you" to them and they just smile like idiots and wave. Yesterday I was walking to a subway station and a guy with his girlfriend said hello to me, I said "hey how are you" and they just started laughing like maniacs as if it was the funniest poo poo in the world.

Bahaha look at this crap. I've gone out with a girl a few times and I get these beauties in my 人人网 mailbox this morning:

"以后离欣然远一点,他是我女朋友。别再让我知道你还骚扰他,否则我弄死你。傻逼美国佬我知道你在那,别他妈的装蛋。"

"在警告你一次,别再找她,因为你我俩快闹分手了,我能找到你。别再跟他联系一次。否则你就滚回美国去"

"I am LiXinRan boyfriend, don't touch her, otherwise I must kill you."

"If you are in touch with her once, I will let you go back to the United States."

“我知道你在那,请你不要再联系她,傻逼洋鬼子”

“再他妈的告诉你一句,这里是中国”

“我警告过你,别再这再说了。否则你会很难看的”

Rofl after I replied to the guy and called him crazy, instead of trying to act like a big tough guy who is probably like six inches shorter than me and weighs twenty kilos less, he comes back with this stuff:

"别再联系她,我们中国不提倡交网友"

"请你自重,我不喜欢你联系她,如果你愿意学中文我可以好好教你。"

"中国人保守,如果被我发现的话,我一定要你好看。"

“别再说话了,我告诉你这是中国,按我说的做,她是我的女朋友。请你离远一点 ok?”

So he goes from threatening me to like begging and stuff. I wonder if he thought his attempt to strong arm me was actually going to work just because he can say THIS IS CHINA a bunch. For the record, I only wrote two replies to the guy and he's still inundating my inbox with this poo poo.

Today he called me four times in five minutes while I was busy playing football. He then called while I was resting and I answered and he yelled incomprehensibly at me and when I told him 还以为是我找了她?是她找了我。你这个脑残的农民,你配不上她。 basically but worded differently, and he tried to get around the fact that she's the one that comes calling me by saying LET ME TELL YOU CHINESE AND AMERICANS ARE DIFFERENT as if I'm supposed to telepathically know this girl has a boyfriend and it's somehow my fault and not hers.

He then yelled out some address that was nowhere loving close to mine and said he was going to come kill me, so I told him yeah you got me, come fight me and my five huge African roommates. He hung up on me after that and hasn't called back since.

The most ironic thing about this is that he graciously offered me his friendship on Chinese Facebook.

The way I deal with being a spectacle is to turn myself into even more of a spectacle because I love people's reactions. Whenever people stare at me on the subway, which happens surprisingly often considering I'm in Beijing, I'll turn on a Chinese song and start singing obnoxiously loud.

I've actually made quite a few friends this way too since people are like WOW YOU CAN SPEAK CHINESE, and I love how whoever was staring is stupefied by the white person singing Chinese music.

It might be dumb, but it always entertains me.

BofA are policy whores when it comes down to it however, and I recommend them only for the "free" withdrawal.

That being said, typical CCB ATMs here limit you to 1000 RMB per transaction using the BofA card. If you raise you limit to the absolute maximum, you can do 5 of them, otherwise it's 4 per day. If you go back the next day it'll limit you to 2 transactions. CCB has no policy limiting it, it's all from the BofA side. Wires are $45 a pop now, capped to $1000 unless you have their $20 token or sign up for SMS verification (only works in the US) and then you are capped to $10,000.

For casual withdrawals, you get a decent rate, but unless you feel like going to the bank every day for a month to suck out $10k there are better options. If you need the cash fast, the max they'll raise the limit to is $1700 (which aint all that much in china). All those 1000 RMB withdrawals will also result in account locking for "security concerns" no matter how many times you have had them put a note on your account. For wires, I prefer to use HSBC, it's cheap ($30), it's fast, no intermediaries, initiate online and no stupid limits. Never use HSBC for ATM, they'll eat $1.50+3%.

If you are *forced* to eat the fees on BofA....In Beijing, if you live near 菜百, that's the place to withdraw, you can do 4000 at a time with the CCB there (only once per day though). China Merchants allows for 3000 (but I have heard rumors of one type that'll do 10,000), ICBC has a standard 2500.

Can't you just go into the bank itself and say to someone "oh hey I want to withdraw all this money now, here's my passport and stuff," or does that not work?

Edit - Oh wait I was confused, I think you guys are talking about withdrawing money from an account outside of China while in China, my mistake.

What other questions should I ask, other than "Why are you hiring me? Are you nuts?"

So I met with the husband who is around 60 and the wife who is 30 and they like me and we agree to start class the next week.

Originally she wanted to have class M-F for like three hours, but I kind of figured she wasn't the most studious of people, and I turned out to be right. So now I meet her maybe once or twice a week and she always insists on buying me candy and Subway and expensive drinks and things like that, and whenever I go to her huge rear end mansion she never stops bringing me expensive imported food.

Then at the end of each class she'll just give me like a thousand kuai or something and apologize for cancelling all the time. It's a pretty sweet gig.
