Meanwhile, Mt. Gox's weekly sell party is in full swing: the price has gone from 11 to 9.7 in just a few hours.

I just realized that goons are just as religiously convinced it's the end of bitcoin as bitcoiners are that it'll be adopted by everyone everywhere. Meanwhile we're all stuck in the Samsara that is the MTGox charts.

Reborn into the same cycling of sell and buy.

Not a single skillful person looking for a way out.

I'm pretty sure it's impossible for bitcoin to "end," but I'm equally sure that the crazy speculation bubble has already burst and the market is slowly deflating down, down DOWN to where it will only be of interest to a handful of hobbyist die-hards who are content to trade their bitcoins back and forth for a few pennies apiece and maybe, every once in a while, splurge on the odd slim jim or two. And I'm enjoying watching it happen, each and every scam-filled week.

Bottom? I think that for the bitcoin speculation market to have a bottom, the bitcoin itself would have to have an inherent worth beyond the hopes and dreams of its supporters. And it doesn't.

A new bitcoin has been developed, and is in testing now.

I don't know how popular this one's going to be. It's called devcoin, and 90% of the coins generated go to "open source developers", leaving the miners a meager 10%. In case anyone here didn't know, this is (at least) the 3rd blockchain being run on the bitcoin software, the first being Bitcoin itself and the second being Namecoin. Namecoin is some odd alternative Domain Name System which is never gonna work.

Probably not the best time for them to have launched their new bitcoins, seeing as how the original appears to be collapsing right now.

This is an interesting problem for bitcoins: Because they are a 'currency' backed by an algorithm and a p2p network, as opposed to, say, a powerful governing body, the field is opened to people working on ways to improve the system behind their generation/distribution/security and thereby introducing competing currencies that offer variations on the same principals behind bitcoins but that only serve to water down the market. If bitcoins ever were adopted for transactions by a meaningful number of merchants, what impact would the parade of "bitcoins 2.0" have? Would you find yourself unable to purchase your favorite brand of cocaine because the dealer has decided to only accept Drugcoins, due to their increased anonymity factor? Would there be a glut of knock-off bitcoins designed solely to scam new entrants into the cryptocurrency world? What would a world where currency itself is opened to the free market actually look like?

Justin Bieber & Bitcoin posted:

One of the most loved young singers of the moment, Justin Bieber enjoys mostly a female following, which would go to great lengths to show their love and support for him.

I snatched the above quote from some website to drive the point I'm about to make, home.

What if Justin Bieber donned a small Bitcoin symbol somewhere on his apparel? All he has to do is wear it, not be a spokesperson for Bitcoin. In fact, it's best he not even talk about it. Just wear it wherever he goes. The conversation of him doing such would go viral.

Now, you may wonder why he would do this if there's nothing in it for him doing it. I'll address that concern with a question: What if he, or his manager, purchased X amount of Bitcoin prior to his start of donning the Bitcoin symbol for the sole purpose of cashing out once their position reaches a predetermined point?

And it doesn't have to be JB, for this idea to work. Any well known personality could do this, thereby increasing the awareness for Bitcoin, and everybody wins.

Then again, perhaps I'm overloading the cart for the donkey, again. (from the idiom: the cart before the horse)

See!? All they have to do is get Justin Bieber on board! THIS PLAN IS FOOLPROOF

Oh, hey! Lovable loser/con-man Bruce Wagner is also a surprise sex apologist!

Bruce Wagner posted:

However, most women have ABSOLUTELY NO CONCEPT of the POWER that sexual attraction has on a man. Women are not men. Men are driven by sex first, feelings second. Women are driven by feelings first, and sex second.

Dressing as sexually provocative as a streetwalker who’s late on the rent…. and parading around in front of men in public like this… Can be like smoking crack in front of a crackhead. Or at the very least, playing drinking games till everyone is in a drunken stupor… in front of a recovering alcoholic.

Sorry, I don’t drink in front of alcoholics in recovery. I DO claim some responsibility for being a thoughtful compassionate human being. I don’t GET MY JOLLIES TRYING TO TEMPT PEOPLE BEYOND THEIR HUMAN ABILITY TO WITHSTAND THAT TEMPTATION… Only to watch them cave…. And then to declare them weak… And criticize them and blame them and laugh at them…

I think MANY women get their jollies — cheap thrills — playing with the sex drives of healthy adult men. They play with them as if they are teasing the animals at the zoo with hints of food…

And then laughing at them… for the sake of entertainment.

And if they get raped…

They had no responsibility for it whatsoever.

Because politically correct society in 2006 gives them blanket immunity to blame.

That wacky Bruce Wagner!

By the way, for a little more clarification...

In that excerpt from 2006, in that forum... which is being attributed to me... The FACT is.... My post was the one at the top. The message I was REPLYING TO was the one at the bottom...

In other words, my words were at the top --- before the word "QUOTE(tdperhs..." etc.

The words after "QUOTE(tdperhs..." ....is the other guy's post..... the post to which I was replying.

Those words about a "virgins and newbies" and "a three pronged attack".... were NOT my words.

That clarification effectively undermines the most damning of the "pedophilia" quotes attributed to Bruce. At this point, I don't think there is any evidence of him being interested in sex with children.

He's clearly had a strange life, and possesses some repugnant opinions (or, at least, he did a few years ago,) but I don't think he's the monster that this witch hunt has made him out to be. A naive and kind of seedy bungler? Yes. A pedophile rapist? No.
