I think they knew it was a racist trope to have the darker skinned character also be the wise, quiet warrior. Still not sure why they went with it, and why the closest thing to addressing this issue on the show was the fact that girls WITH VAGINAS could do man-science!!!!! It's one of the worst bits of the series- why no black scientists? Or black military leaders? loving bullshit. Hollywood is goddamned racist.

In the SG-1 episode "Tin Man", a robot dude makes robot copies of Sam, Daniel, Teal'c, and O'Neil. Robot Teal'c is messed up and tries to murder Robot O'Neil. The robot creator keeps calling Teal'c "different black". I always thought that was a reference to the racism of the show, but maybe it's not, who knows?

Agreed! I thought it was an excellent send off for all of the stargate shows. It really captured the adventurous, sometimes melancholy but ultimately uplifting spirit of the show. You should definitely check it out!

Perhaps it would have been about the prevailing hypothesis in the SGU thread? Some of the girls wake up pregnant and Rush has a penis grafted onto his forehead; meanwhile, Eli is all shifty and claiming innocence.

I thought it was because the "copier" wasn't programed to take into account the two different brain patterns (Teal'cs' and his symbiote) that caused the original Teal'c copy to malfunction.

They actually did acknowledge this fact early on in the series. In fact they went with the overt sledgehammer of a joke.

Should put something in the OP about spoilers - use spoiler tags for major plot points/character deaths/season finales, and non-spoiler tags for just about everything else? Or just assume everyone who is reading this thread has watched all the series?

Its funny how many alien races are 1-shots in the show, like the invisible bugs or the aliens in Foothold. I do like however how some pop back up every now and then, just watched the "Trial of Skara" episode and it was great seeing the Tolaan and Nox again.

It's a dead franchise and there's a spoiler free (I assume) "let's watch" thread for SG-1. I think it's fair to make this a spoiler thread.

Hathor.

Back on topic: Space's perpetual loop of SG-1 has made it back to Season 10, and I just noticed that the girl who played Vala's daughter was also the girl who played the princess in the awesome episode of Atlantis that lead to the beautiful painting we all love.

They should have kept her as a little girl, she was so much creepier and benignly threatening than the hamtacular adult version.

I liked how the Ori arc started out as a series-ender but it seemed like they had too many ideas on the table and ditched the good ones for the quick and easy. There were all these references to Arthur returning like they were building to something huge, the random girl pulls the sword out of the stone and....nothing. They entirely dropped that and just continued the stretched out quest for a thing that wouldn't be resolved till a really bad tv movie.

Hey, it's not any worse than the lyrics to the Star Trek theme (by means of which Roddenberry appropriated half of Sandy's royalties for writing the damned music, though it was never used -- begins at 1:17), or the Bonanza theme lyrics.

Hey man, all those sweeping cinematics shot of Teal'c walking over mountains was totally amazing and didn't detract from the usual lean pacing of the tv series at all.

China, UK, and I think France were involved. One of the annoying things about Atlantis was that while Grodin wore a Union Flag patch on his arm, the scotch doctor got a saltire patch.

On the one hand it was nice to see a reflection of the UK's large asian community, on the other it was bizarre, and a little offensive, to have that dreadful fake accent walking around with the Scottish flag when it should have been the same as Grodin's.
