For the first time in almost fourteen years there is not a Stargate movie or series currently in production. This thread was created to discuss, celebrate and look back at the franchise as a whole.

The FAQesque stuff. Source: Stargate Wiki

The Premise
Several million years ago, an ancient race of advanced humanoid beings, now known as the Ancients, created a device capable of near-instantaneous transportation across the universe by means of a subspace wormhole. This device, which has been used by countless races since its creation, has more commonly become known as a "Stargate"

Col. Jonathan "Jack" O'Neil (Kurt Russell)
Dr. Daniel Jackson (James Spader)
Ra (Jaye Davidson)
Catherine Langford (Viveca Lindfors)
Skaara (Alexis Cruz)
Sha'uri (Mili Avital)
Lieutenant Kawalsky (John Diehl)
Kasuf (Erick Avari)

Television Series
Stargate SG-1
SG-1 is a television spin-off/sequel of the Stargate movie. The two-hour pilot episode "Children of the Gods" originally aired on July 27, 1997. "Unending," the final episode of the series, aired in the UK on March 13, 2007 and in the US on June 22, 2007.

Main Characters:

Jack O'Neill "It's 'O'Neill', with two L's!" (Richard Dean Anderson) Jack, is a Lieutenant General, in the United States Air Force, who served eight years in the Stargate Program until he was transferred to The Pentagon to become the head of Homeworld Command (also called Homeworld Security). He was the original leader of SG-1 and later became the commander of Stargate Command

Samantha Carter (Amanda Tapping) Samantha Carter is an astrophysicist, engineer and pilot who was the operational leader of the Atlantis expedition for one year, after playing a key role in bringing the Stargate program into existence as a member of SG-1. Considered Earth's leading expert on the Stargate and a host of other alien technology, Jack O'Neill once emphatically proclaimed her brain to be a national resource. In 2009, Carter was made the commander of the Daedalus-class ship, George Hammond. She is a very capable officer despite her reproductive organs being on the inside.

Teal'c of Chulak [pronounced ˈtiːəlk] (Christopher Judge)also known as Teal'c of the Tau'ri is a Jaffa in the service of Stargate Command and devoted to the cause of the Jaffa Rebellion. Teal'c is a Jaffa from the planet Chulak, a planet orbiting a binary star system. He will be 162 years old in the year 2011, after aging 50 years trapped on the Odyssey. Teal'c was formerly in the service of the System Lord Apophis as his First Prime.

Doctor Daniel Jackson (Michael Shanks) An individual of great integrity, often passionately arguing against morally unsound plans. He tends to be very respectful of alien cultures, except when their culture involves immoral practices, and he often approaches the unknown with an almost childlike sense of awe. However, he seems to have a hard time accepting no-win scenarios.

George S. Hammond (Don S. Davis) Commanding Officer of Stargate Command for seven years, before becoming head of Homeworld Command.

Cameron Mitchell (Ben Browder) aka "Cam" is the current leader of SG-1 since 2005, after Lt. Colonel Samantha Carter. He was a talented United States Air Force pilot where he was given the callsign "Shaft", and once participated in the Battle of Antarctica, where he was injured. After recovering, he requested to join SG-1, only to discover the other members, Carter, Teal'c and Dr. Daniel Jackson taking different posts, but after a few months, he eventually got the team back together. For most of his time as commander of SG-1, he fought the Ori, as well as the Goa'uld, particularly Ba'al. He was recently promoted to full-bird Colonel.

Hank Landry (Beau Bridges) a Major General in the United States Air Force and the Commanding officer of Stargate Command since Major General Jack O'Neill was made head of the Office of Homeworld Security. He is also the father of Dr. Carolyn Lam. He is fond of quoting famous people from history.

Vala Mal Doran (Claudia Black) a thief and con artist, former Goa'uld host, and current member of SG-1. Vala has a tendency to lie and trick people in an attempt to get her way. This sometimes gets to the point where she assumes it is necessary when it really isn't, such as when she is required to take a psychiatric evaluation and she gives fake answers in an attempt to avoid being "tricked". (SG1: "Morpheus") Despite this fact, she has proven herself to be quite courageous and trustworthy in many circumstances, and is now a valued member of Stargate Command.

Jonas Quinn (Parker Lewis...aka Corin Nemec) a Langaran scientist and former member of SG-1.

Stargate: Atlantis
a television series spin-off from Stargate SG-1. Stargate Atlantis began airing in 2004, and concluded after five seasons. "Enemy at the Gate", the final episode of the series, aired on January 9, 2009

Main Characters:
John Sheppard (Joe Flanigan)
Doctor Rodney McKay (David Hewlett)
Teyla Emmagan (Rachel Luttrell)
Doctor Elizabeth Weir (Torri Higginson)
Doctor Carson Beckett (Paul McGillion)
Ronon Dex (Jason Momoa)
Doctor Jennifer Keller (Jewel Staite)
Aiden Ford (Rainbow Sun Francks)
Samantha Carter (Amanda Tapping)
Richard Woolsey (Robert Picardo)

Stargate: Universe
The third television series spin-off premiered on October 2, 2009. The Cancellation of the show was announced on December 16, 2010, with the final episode airing May 9, 2011.

Main Characters:
Doctor Nicholas Rush (Robert Carlyle)
Everett Young (Louis Ferreira)

Eli Wallace (David Blue) Is a goon. Can't believe that Doctor Rush has had CONTROL OF THE SHIP THIS WHOLE TIME AND DIDN"T TELL ANYONE!
Ronald Greer (Jamil Walker Smith)
Matthew Scott (Brian J. Smith)
Tamara Johansen (Alaina Huffman)

Chloe Armstrong (Elyse Levesque) Chloe is the daughter of USA Senator Alan Armstrong. She studied Political Science, Crying, and Earth history at Harvard. Chloe's time on Destiny was split between being a cocktease to Eli, Crying, Having sex with Lieutenant Scott. Being kidnapped and experimented on and having sex with the Nakai, and crying.

In the SG-1 episode "Tin Man", a robot dude makes robot copies of Sam, Daniel, Teal'c, and O'Neil. Robot Teal'c is messed up and tries to murder Robot O'Neil. The robot creator keeps calling Teal'c "different black". I always thought that was a reference to the racism of the show, but maybe it's not, who knows?

I thought it was because the "copier" wasn't programed to take into account the two different brain patterns (Teal'cs' and his symbiote) that caused the original Teal'c copy to malfunction.

I'm in the process of binging through Atlantis for the first time and just watched the first season episode "Home". My question.

Does Weir ever become likable? She always strikes me as that repressed catholic mom who lived in your neighborhood growing up and would Buzz (in this case Beatrice) Killington that just smoother any sort of pleasure or fun in any given situation.

loving Sanctuary.

Makes sense though, seeing 3/4ths of the Sanctuary cast was on SG:A at one point or another. Would make sense the story lines would cross over as well.

I'd have to say that 'Midway' is one of my favorite SGA episodes; the end was pretty great.

Like I mentioned in the old Stargate Universe thread. Midway is one of my favorite SG:A episodes. To the point where I wanted a Ronon/Teal'c spinoff with Carter's dad as their boss.

Stargate: Wrecking poo poo

Scene: The Stargate room at Stargate command. Teal'c and Ronon enter stage right.

Ronon< .....humans think the three stooges are funny?
Teal'c< It would appear so
Ronon< Humans are weird.
Teal'c< Indeed.

= Ronon looks up the glass into the control room =

Ronon< So where we going?
Carter's Dad< Some goa'uld, or rebel Prior or Lucian alliance or something is....
Ronon< Whatever. Dial it

= Carter's dad and looks to Walter =

Walter< Commencing dialing sequence!

= Stock footage of gate dialing up, Ronon and Teal'C approach the gate =

Ronon< Does O'Neill and Sheppard still expect us to play golf with them tomorrow?

= Ronon and Teal'c slip through the gate, cut to ten minutes later. Cue Stargate Command Alarm footage =

Walter< Unscheduled offworld activation! IDC coming in Sir. It's WS-1!

= Teal'c and Ronon walk through the gate, both covered in blood. Ronon is carrying a bag over his shoulder =

Teal'c< I am to believe that I still cannot have a gun like yours?
Ronon< It's like I told you. I'm still on the waiting list...
Carter's Dad< WS1, why are you back so....
= Ronon looks up to the command room, visibly annoyed his conversation is being interrupted =
Ronon< What? Oh yeah. Minor system Lord was trying to terrorize a farming colony. It's been taken care of.

= Ronon tosses the bag from his shoulder to the floor. out rolls the head of the mentioned minor system lord. The shock of it's dead gaze is matched only by the physical evidence that it had been been physically beaten and shot a lot. Cut to scene of everyone in the control room paralyzed in mortal fear. Carter's dad becomes aroused by the gore and starts to masturbate. Ronon and Teal'c turn to exit the gate room =

Ronon< So whats with all those staff weapons in the armory?

I think the only real reason why SGA didn't last longer is because they just could never find a good combination of four people for the team. Part of the issue, I think, is this unsaid rule that there needs to be a female team member, and we got stuck with Tayla. That only got worse when they tried to make her more important...

Yet another reason why Amanda Tapping was horribly misused during season 4. Would have been a seamless transition with Carter taking Tayla's place once she realized she was preggers. Instead we get Carter stuck in Weir's old office doing paperwork and MSPainting the CGI sets for Sanctuary.
