That was awesome! It made me dance! My suggestion, if you're going to continue in this vein, do the Skyrim and Morrowind themes. Although maybe those are overdone? I've no idea, but I'd listen to those played by you guys.

Thanks! I think those are cool ideas, so I put them in my idea notebook. We'll see what the other two dudes think.

Realizing now that we should have have done it in D minor, since Season 1 was in C minor (which we did), and Season 2 was in C# minor. Whoops! We'll see whether that wild speculation is true in 5 hrs.

Holy poo poo I really like the video. Dunno the NIN song, but the playing is very Gilmour.

Did you have to get licensing or permission for it, or are you going guerilla on that poo poo? I've been wanting to do a CD of my covers (almost 100% inspired from the ML Rockstar Series) but get stuck at the licensing/copyright/lawyers part.

My two favorite covers that I did that took the song in a totally different direction are "I Just Can't Wait To Be King" from the Lion King:

And "I Would Die For You" - It's probably the one Prince song I hated. I wanted to re-do it as the feelgood hit of the summer. I play it live at most of my gigs and people dig the poo poo out of it. Kinda proud of what I did.

Dude, the Lion King one is insane! You're really good

That cream recording is fantastic. You really captured every element of the song.

Thought that I would post a cover that I made of Alexander Ebert - Truth while traveling through Arizona. My vocal range was crap. Chain-smoking, recording at 8am without a warmup, and four hours of sleep doesn't lead to the best sound.

Thanks everybody for the feedback on my Poison Heart cover a while back!

It's been cool coming back to the thread to check out the new tracks being posted.

I've got some Cure covers on my Soundcloud now... One being the first song I recorded in a style I ended up sticking with, and the other two were part of a set at an open mic night.

This is Lullaby, recorded in my bedroom a few years ago:

Here is the four song set from Open Mic, performed as a duo with a good friend of mine on rhythm, recorded on an iPhone. The first two songs are "Letter To Elise" and "Just Like Heaven" by the Cure, and the last two are originals if you'd like to listen that far ("Not Alone" and "Lord Byron")

One small heartfelt moment, before hull breach.

Here's a couple of game themes I've always wanted to cover, and finally got around to it. The videos are lazy, but that's beside the point.

I'm really impressed by the stuff I've checked out from this thread. Lots of skill and lots of different approaches to the source material.

@minor deities - The VG covers were great. I actually got back into music last year because I wanted to finish a game music cover track I'd started many years ago. It's floating around in my head in finished form but I don't yet have the production chops to pull it off. Your work is inspiring though.

As for my aforementioned lack of production chops, I'm doing some covers as a way to force me to apply what I'm learning, and to immerse myself in specific pieces of gear and software.

Here's my note-for-note remake of Depeche Mode's "Dreaming of Me," which I produced in Live 8.3, using only a Roland MKS-7 for synth and drums.

Not really sure if this would qualify as a "cover" per say, but here's a quick little runthrough of 'Breezy' from the Final Fantasy VIII soundtrack.

Just finished my most recent cover, Depeche Mode's Just Can't Get Enough.

This one was more fun (and literally 3x more work) to do because I designed every synth and drum sound by hand on the Blofeld. I programmed 20 patches while working on this song and used 17 of them, I think.

EDIT: @Leinadi - That was very pretty.

THE SLOVAK SHOCK

I covered the Power Rangers theme in a fairly straightforward way.

Also I covered the jazz standard "All The Things You Are" in the black metal genre.

Also I covered Cannibal Corpse's "hosed With A Knife" à la jazz.

Lookie here, I took all the good parts out of Beck's Chemtrails. Just an organ and some falsetto-singing dudes left.

(ADD kids skip to 2:40, that's the good part)

Here's a cover of Nine Inch Nails' Every Day Is Exactly The Same that I finished the other day. I've had the instrumental finished for some time and the vocals recorded for almost a year, but never got around to automating the vocal tracks or mixing the thing out of embarrassment, as this is pretty much the first time I've sang my own vocals on something that wasn't drunken karaoke.

Really nice, though I have to ask whether the "day" in the chorus is lower than in the original by design.

That's interesting. I haven't thought someone could be tone-deaf for a single tone in the scale.

It's not...

Great cover by the way.

VVV - that makes more sense. I listened to that specific part over and over and I couldn't figure out where you thought the "Day" was a different note than the album version. But for the life of me I can't remember the word after that, haha.

YOU - FINGERS - KEYBOARD

Argh. My bad. Not the "day" but the "is" after it. (If I actually put in some effort ) In the original it goes
code:
e d b
day is ex
and Mister Speaker sings
code:
e b b
day is ex
Just that. It just bugged me when I listened to it. It doesn't really matter. A cover is supposed not to reproduce the original note for note.
