So Udyr is an asset. I've played against Udyr dozens of times, and had the pleasure of playing with passable and outright murderously good players basically maining him as their jungler/ganker, all doing a stand-up job at a mobile and fast character that stuns on hit with Bear Stance, does AOE damage with Phoenix, and simply rips folks apart with Tiger. Turtle gives some sustainability, I gather.

So that's a hero with 4 skills that has no particular Ultimate, but still 18 levels. That's still 5 skills at rank 5, and one at most at rank 3, right?

Could someone explain to me how that quite works? Am I right you leave a particular skill behind all others, then? What skills do people usually focus on?

I really want to try and take up jungling with a hero that isn't too reliant on runes, but even at rank 30 (and I'm not even going to bother trying babby's first jungler in Ranked play - actually, gently caress Ranked until I can get a full team of mates in), I'm not too confident about something so important as a jungler. But holy hell does it look fun to just run in and ruin a lane's start of the game, or come to the rescue of top getting zoned. Or just running in after some hapless carry on mid overextending themselves.

I do have Nunu, at least. Practice with him, then? I understood he's not too rune-reliant, either.

If I need to change settings/view my keybinds and such, I just create a custom game with only me in it. I change whatever is needed and just quit the game whenever I'm done. (I don't know which key it is.)

Mash L until they reappear.

To Dinictus: Nunu is very easy to jungle with, he recently had a nerf to consume but he can still do it recently. Take some decent jungle masteries (defensive/utility) and smite and you'll be fine. Don't be afraid to try jungling, it's something that requires a bit of practice!

I know a couple of people who play Udyr, and they basically rock everywhere. And yes, it's impossible to level all his skills to max. If you want to mess around in normal jungling, hit me up as EnfEnEt and I'll yell/ give tips.

I think I will. Might as well start with a bot match to get the jungling rhythm down and start in solo queue or with mates afterwards.

A friend of mine plays Morgana quite a bit. From what I've seen, he mostly uses the shield and immunity to effects on the carry or melee attacker when they close in for a kill so CC won't stop them dead in their tracks, or to cover for himself or another character in the retreat so CC or spell damage won't stop them dead in their tracks.

Either you want to drop it on a carry in a teamfight, or you want to alt e yourself on reaction to stuff like taric or sion's stun(cc with a travel time) so you can be a bit more agressive while laning. In a duo good use of the shield can save you from lots of ganks as well. Also don't be afraid to just put it on and walk forward against lanes like shen/carry where the dude protecting the carry is doing it through cc to try to get into range to set up root/puddle. If you're the main teamfight cc it can also help to let you get into range to flash/ult/zhonyas.

I've had this same problem since the patch on Friday. I found that clicking "Return to lobby" instead of "Play again" after finishing a match and then manually searching for a game again solved it. See if that works for you.

On the Morgana shield disucssion. Generally, I'll throw it on the squishiest carry at the start of the team fight. An exception is Xin, if I'm playing with a Xin (or similar) who needs to get up close to do damage, he's almost always going to get the shield. Sometimes though, if there is no 'need' to shield right away, I'll save it in order to save a low health team mate. The shield can absorb a decent amount of punishment (from abilities).

It's worth noting though, it does nothing against auto-attack damage. Many pubs (who are retards) don't understand this, and think that they're invincible because they have a shield on, and will go charging into Ashe / Cait only to drop in 2 seconds. Learn that if you have a retard on your team, never shield them because it will only amplify the retardedness.

Still only level 14, but most of my games have been jungle Udyr.

Most Udyr builds focus exclusively on either Tiger or Phoenix, and then grab 3 points in the other stance for their final 3 skills. There are a few other philosophies, like putting 1 to 3 points in Phoenix early and then switching to Tiger. It seems too risky to me to give up early ranks in Turtle and Bear for the survivability and movement boosts they offer, but I could easily be wrong here.

Even with my pathetic runes and mastery page, Udyr's jungle is passable while some of the other jungles I've tried have been a real struggle. I don't know if this necessarily holds true at higher levels where counter-jungling exists as a thing that people actually consider, but he definitely seems less rune reliant.

So, been playing on and off for a while. Level 14, but still consider myself a newb, as I've only now figured out half my problems might go away if I use wards and monster buffs. Am most familiar with Heimerdinger, which I may be putting on a bench as soon as I can afford a new champion or two.

In the meantime, I'm trying to see if I can tweak my Heimer build to be a little more efficient. Not expecting to dominate, just want to not feel useless when playing against a more experienced team.

At the moment, I'm taking a hard look at my runes. I've got marks focusing on health, seals on mana regen, glyphs on cooldowns, and quintessence on ability power. Except, some of the builds I'm looking at use quintessence for health and mark for magic penetration, which has me wondering if AP or MP would be better to focus on rune wise. Any suggestions?

Don't buy tier 2 runes. If you already have, don't buy more. Wait until tier 3 to get them or grab. The price in-between is simply not worth it!
If your hero has high AP ratios, around .7+ on three or more skills (I am making up these numbers but it's something like that), get AP runes. Otherwise get magic penetration runes.

HP Marks are not especially good. In general, you want to put armor penetration, spell penetration, or attack damage in your marks (or possibly attack speed if you're jungling) (ability power marks are not very good), as those are the most efficient use of the rune slots. If you want bonus HP from runes, the quintessences are decent but expensive.

Be warned that you do have at least a slightly higher risk of patch-time strangeness doing this, at least in my experience. I've certainly managed to have to reinstall LoL once due to something I'm pretty sure was due to changing the items, but that was at least partially user error on my part. With that out of the way, I use LoL Item Changer. It works, but it has to be updated for every new champion release (not updated for Yorick yet still, so can't mess with his items), but it seems to work for previous champions just fine on patch days. Has some strange issues at times for some people since the switch to the "new" LoL launcher. Been contemplating trying to switch to something else, only thing I've found so far that looks like it's still updated is Yaric and it seems to be setup to not have to be patched for every new champ, but I haven't had a chance to try it.

So I started playing some solo ranked and drat if it isn't terrible. But I'm really curious if higher ranked play actually shows some teamwork and less whining. The amount of theorycraft going on during draft picking makes me laugh (I'm playing at 1000 elo). Also seems to be that everyone has drilled into their skulls that dying means losing (even though more than half the games turn into 40+ min slugfests) and will run from fights (at the slightest hint that things are going south) that lose us objectives like dragon, baron, towers even killing enemies that are near dead and running. On the other hand you get early tower diving and dying out of greed for a kill when they can't take the tower hits at lvl 3-7. If you try to get people to play as a team they scream noob 1/4/1 while they may be at 1/0/0 at the 20 min mark. The cs is almost always incredibly low on at least two of your team members and they're still working on second tier boots after ten minutes of play. How do I carry the team in this situation? Early game I usually out cs my opponent, I ward dragon if bottom, or top in bush. But midgame people start getting ganked, our jungler never leaves the jungle, and we lose a tower and then the finger pointing and gnashing of teeth begins and it snowballs from there.

There also seems to be a trend of playing late at night and losing whatever gains I made earlier not sure if it's because that's when the bad players come out or not. Help a newbie out, what would Jesus do?

Mostly. They work, but generally speaking you are much better spending your gold on nearly anythihg else. The best MR item in the game is banshee's veil, even if you have no mana. Just build the MR and health parts first. As for damage and armor, build an Atmas Impaler, preferably after you have about 3k health.

Hexdrinker is good, but usually stalls your item build. Wits end requires you to hit your opponent in a sustained fashion(although Renek' has a multi hit ability), and is typically considered bad. Renek' doesn't have any skills that benefit from attack speed either.

Sarkozymandias
May 25, 2010

Atma's is pretty cost-effective even around 2.5k. It's still 50 AD plus armor and crit if you need it. Very underrated item.

Ren's a good farmer and a good killer so you can afford a fairly expensive build outline.

My build order is usually something like:

1. Boots + 3 pots

2. Brutalizer or Spirit Visage and CDR boots

3. Whichever of the above I didn't get.

4. Negatron and Chain Armor

5. Banshee's Veil and Sunfire Cape

6. Atma's Impaler

7. Turn Brutalizer into Ghostblade or sell it for a Last Whisper or something. Depends on the game/my mood/the stars.

Such a late Ghostblade is kind of a bad habit but I rarely feel I need anything beyond the Brutalizer part for most of the game. With a shitload of cooldown, tankiness, and modest AD you're a spammy nigh-unkillable monster assuming anyone else enough on your team is enough of a threat to divert attention. If you have a spare 250g laying around at any point when you're buying, grab a Red Elixir because every little bit helps.

Basically you want enough AD to be mashing out your abilities consistently. Max Q first, then E (for zooming), then W, prioritizing ult when it comes up.

I'm having the same problem. Usually with dumb teammates because if you look at all my champions (Akali, tryn and cait) I have almost a 2.0 KDR with all. The only thing to do is to play a hard carry like Cait for example, or some other champion that can turn the game around (akali with cleanups). You might even possibly do better if you are a good tank and can tank the poo poo out of their team while protecting your carries (goodluck). One thing I want to mention is that Deaths ARE VERY BAD. And can mean losing depending on how fed one of their carries gets. Of course dieing is not the end of the world but if their team fights right and gives their kills to their carries...each kill their carry has and your carry doesnt is bad.

What I've said is pretty obvious and the next part is to captalize on being fed as a carry and push your team to victory if their incompetent, which I'm working on currently. What I mean is to figure a way to push hard and get your teammates to back you. I've had way to may games where I'm 18-8 with caitlyn or whoever but we keep losing because its hard to completely carry a team as a carry as they go out of the way to focus you. And if you die, your team dies.

Edit: Also pick up a friend to play ranked with you. I do this and we skype so we at least have two competent people on the team with good communication.

That's what I figured, thanks. The question stemmed from a game yesterday, going mid as GP vs. Ryze. I was last hitting pretty well with 5-ish creeps per wave, and it looked like he was just blowing up everything without even trying to specifically last hit. I think I was a little surprised when I was only a few kills ahead him after a few minutes. Once he ran out of mana I ran him out of the lane, but the score still sparked the question.

It's not bad. At first I thought that was "relai's" and not mejai's and I had a big post about not needing the slow and HP on top of catalyst and your cone attack.

"Experts" like DNK tend to go boots or other non-mana item because they play in a high ranked game bracket where the lane phase is extremely passive and consists of farming and only some harass and so they don't need the mana so much. They argue that mana shouldn't be a problem because you shouldn't be harassing with your Q, but last-hitting instead.

Take that with a grain of salt, though. It can't be emphasized enough the high-ranked play and pretty much all other play are in different universes.

The golem isn't very tough, especially if you have someone help you take it down. Any two heroes can take it down at level 1, although one of them will be at low health. I think with Heimer you can get it relatively safely after level 6-7. If you have someone help you, remember just like with minions only getting the final hit on it counts. Also something to note is that the jungle creeps get slowly stronger as time goes on and whenever they're killed.
