Yeah, except for maybe the base campaign there's literally nothing DoD has that Venice doesn't, it's exactly the same except for lots of extra stuff. There's really no reason to ever play DoD over Venice.

I should know, TAGES is still on the steam version and refuses to install in wine so I've only ever played Venice.

For the iron shop do I need ot be right next to the mine? I created one but its just sitting there even though i have both items in my warehouse thing.

Production buildings need to be connected - either by a road or by adjacency) to a either a warehouse or all the buildings that can produce the raw materials they need. Iron smelting needs coal and ore, so if your smelt-hut isn't right close to a mine and a charcoal burner (you can select the building to see the range that it can send out journeymen to collect supplies), then that may be the problem. Even when you have a correct setup, it's not instantaneous (the cart can be busy sometimes), but it should happen eventually. If you could take a screenshot of your setup, that might help us see if there is any trouble.

After some more playing I have determined that if your palace doesn't cost more in maintenance than a cathedral you're playing it wrong. Not pictured, the small harbor I added near the beach with a harbor masters office, a fishing hut and a historic warehouse (the third, the second on my main island).

Oh wow, new posts and I didn't even notice . I hope you guys who bought it from Gamersgate get your CD keys sorted so you can play both parts of the game, the campaign is really good at teaching you alot about how to play and then you can move on to Venice for your main gaming there with the improvements. I saw talk of an LP earlier, would anyone mind linking me to that and if the person who is doing/did the LP doesn't mind I'll put that link in the OP so poeple can check it out if they haven't seen it before (I didn't even know there was an LP for this game, I don't really browse the LP forum much). Poil thats a really awesome Palace! I love the little hedge maze in there too. Wold you mind if I put some of those screenshots in the OP (with credit to you)? My 1404 screenshot section is quite bare sadly. Gamescom is a month away chaps, I really hope we can get some new good info from there for 2070. I'm so excited for that even though I know so little about it, Diablo 3 and Anno 2070 this year would make me very happy

People on those Game Tutor things back at GG are starting to share cracked executables for the main game, no joke. Really a drat shame; I never had a single complaint about GamersGate til now and it's really infuriating they don't at least come clean and tell us what happened if they can't fix the issue yet.

As for GamersGate, I emailed them Sunday night and wasn't expecting an answer that day obviously but not heard anything yesterday either. I have noticed they are merrily deleting all mentions of it away from the GameTutor support thing they have going every few hours so it's not like they don't know there's a problem. I'm in no real rush, will wait to play until I have the first campaign unlocked legit to start tinkering with it. heh just looked again and the three posts I saw earlier in their support section have already been deleted but a new one has popped up already.

Oh goddamnit, this is awakening my Anno urge again! I always get to the point where I need candlesticks for the nobles and promptly either fizzle out at the game or start over at a new map. Even when I create a pretty big world with only me (no AIs) in it, I simply get tired of the increasing demand for more stuff and limited island space/fertility. I've also gotten hopelessly addicted to the Noria "exploit" . I'm looking forward to 2070 and seeing what they do with the gameplay. Hopefully they'll add the possibility to terraform the islands to increase the sizes!

# ? Jul 19, 2011 09:57 |

Personally I find the game less enjoyable if I can't harass the AI by buying out islands and torching their islands with an occasional riot or plague thrown in for good measure.

Cardiovorax posted:Yes, many buildings only become available when you reach certain population levels. Didn't used to be like that in the older games, but apparently Ubisoft was afraid of confusing people by actually letting them do everything right away. Or (more likely) the developers wanted to give some sort of impression of progression

Is your copy digitally downloaded? Those all come with Tages. I don't actually know if that takes the form of cmd.exe, because I bought a physical copy to avoid it.

I've launched my own copy of Venice to check that cmd.exe claim and saw nothing like that. It has two processes called Addon.exe and AddonWeb.exe, neither of which are taking more resources than they should and both disappear when I quit the game. Have you finish the update process properly? Man, I really hope Ubisoft hurries up with the proper keys. I want to play the base game to figure out what's going on properly.

Figured it out, it only happens when I run the gu_addon.exe. It says online the latest patch is 3.1 but but my Venice game is only 2.01.5010. No base key from GG yet, I am having to figure the game out and it's really confusing! How do I mine Brine?

This game has the most mind bendingly poor war/combat mechanics, I regret forgetting to turn opposing AI off and just playing it like a sim game.

Yeah I really dislike the war aspects myself. If I do need to do it I make a bunch few camps and have one forward camp with all my others a bit behind reinforcing it, just keep adding more depending on what I'm trying to take over or depending on their military strength. I have no idea if reinforcing camps rather than getting them all to atack is better really though, I pretty much always play with war off now Also, it's time for a (not quite so) weekly roundup of the 2070 tweets! quote:[July 22nd 2011] Whereas ecos love going to concerts, tycoons prefer going to casinos. Lots to talk about here! Also it seems they changed the July 8th tweet from something about volcanoes to this one, odd indeed. Cargo lifter sounds useful, sounds you can use that to take things quicker than whatever a futurecart is to pick up goods. Possibly something yo can only manually lose or have on a cooldown. Although maybe it's just the new futurecart? EVE...please don't be some retarded nature personfication With concerts and casinos it sounds like there could be a whole bunch of entirely different buildings depending on which faction you chose, that I'd assume fulfil the same needs. Quite a few other interesting sounding things in there too.
