Whenever I watch the Riding With Death episode it amazes me the crazy stuff TV execs though would make for good shows back then. A guy who gets a radioactive blast that makes him invisible? How does that even work?

That being said, the episodes where they do 70s movies tend to be far and away some of my favorites.

A really strange thing about Riding with Death is the backstory database which talks about how Ben Murphy's character went to Harvard. Despite the episodes, I mean movie, portraying the character as kind of a lunkhead.

Another weird thing about Escape 2000 is that the female and male lead have exactly the same hair.

Edit: Also, while I like the movies of season 7 I can't stand the Mads bits as early Pearl is super annoying.

It wasn't just the KTMA era, from what I gather the MST3K crew were none too happy when Comedy Central decided to air some of the CC era's first season episodes. My understanding is that they viewed the KTMA era as a very rough draft, and CC season 1 as a slightly improved (but still rough) version, before all the stars aligned and they started mining gold with season 2.

There's an interview with Joel on the Crawling Eye DVD where he states that yeah, they weren't too great to begin with. Apparently during the KTMA and season 1 episodes they didn't fully script out the riffs and relied more on improv. The switch over ended up being why Josh left the show.

Hell, I'm one of the MST3K greybeards in this thread and I've never so much as watched any KTMA-era footage beyond that used in documentaries and whatnot.

Another problem with KTMA episodes is that the image/sound quality is garbage. Since the only copies are ones people recorded off the air.

"A MILLION BUCKS!"

Ah, High School Big Shot, definitely up there in "most depressing movie" MST3K episode ranking. Just from the little stuff, like the father hanging himself because he thinks it'll give his son a fresh start on life, not knowing that the kid was already mixed up in a drug deal gone bad. Or the thuggish boyfriend emptying a revolver into his girlfriend with very little provocation.
