The Selling Wizard posted:There's a lot of thing about that movie I enjoy (Aliens' language is essentially "Japanese"; invisible face shields; "there's no steam in a vacuum!"; the presence of the "focus on the good and the beautiful" guy from The Phantom Planet; etc), but I especially love that when they finally land on the moon, as they disembark, the shot clearly shows the edge of the set and the lights all along the top of the screen. I mean, boom mikes and shadows are one thing, but this is a new level of bad movie-making. Is that the one where the take-home lesson is: always bring cats? That and the "invisible face screen" get me every time.

For some reason I always get Rocket Attack USA mixed up with that film where Dan O'Herlihy hypnotizes a bar full of people into believing the USA has been invaded. Then they wake up and convert their tractor factories into tank production. "Who won the World Series?"

Two of my favorite host segments are in Godzilla vs. Megalon--the Orville Reddenbacher sketch is great, and then the bots are doing something when Joel interrupts them. So they devise their own giant monsters. Crow: My monster is acquainted... with the night. Joel: Sounds like your monster reads Frost. Crow: Yeah, AND HE SHOOTS IT LIKE ICY DEATH FROM HIS BLOODY STUMPS

Seeing Trace and Josh do the bots again was great. Also I appear to have fallen behind in box sets, should fix that. Radar Secret Service gets quoted in our house a lot. "RADAR!" "Can RADAR save this dying marriage?"

Catalina Caper might be a good introductory episode, though I seem to recall it's hard to come by on DVD. The film isn't too bad for an early season, and a lot of the host segments are great. I also really like Double 007 and would probably watch it without Mike and the Bots. Again, great host segments: "You're ruining it for me!" "I know."

It certainly doesn't have the downer bit out of left field that "The Girl in Lover's Lane" has. Which does not make up for Jack Elam. "I'm not Jack Elam anymore!!"

I kinda thought the host sounded like Josh, but Jonah Ray is a good choice, too. When Cinematic Titanic came to town a couple of years ago, there was an inevitable question to Joel about Mike, Kevin, and Bill, and would they get back together, etc. Trace just walked on and asked if Joel would like to open this can of worms? I did see that Frank and Trace are doing some live riffing, too. https://drafthouse.com/denver/show/the-mads-are-back-live-with-frank-conniff-and-trace-beaulieu One hopes that during the evening, one can turn one's crank to Frank.
