Any new information on UbiArt going open license? I know Ancel is really pushing it and if it's as revolutionary as he says (and good God, Vanillaware has been dethroned) I want to see what indie artists can do with this drat thing.

NICE LONG VIDEO PREVIEW FROM GAMETRAILERS

::Ubiquitous:: posted:NICE LONG VIDEO PREVIEW FROM GAMETRAILERS This game looks more and more amazing with each new video, and I can't wait to buy it. I was a huge fan of Rayman back in the PlayStation -days, and I spent dozens of hours playing the original platformer. It was a surprisingly challenging title and I sincerely hope that Ubisoft has decided to keep the difficulty intact. I want fun, but I also want something that isn't too much of a cakewalk.

Official release date November 25, or so it says at the end of this new trailer

Good news! Ubi Soft is offering an awesome looking pre-order Collector's Edition package:![]() Bad news! It's only in Europe. Slightly better news! You can still get the art book in NA if you pre-order through Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Rayman-Origin...19203720&sr=1-1 As a longtime fan of Rayman and Michel Ancel's work, I'm very pumped for them to both return. Good thing I finally got 4 Xbox controllers, because I think they've said there won't be online.

Good news: Amazon UK has the collector's edition. Bad news: They don't loving ship to USA. Why, Ubisoft, why? I know you're a French company but I'd pay the premium for that! Well, I really like that paper cutout thing and I would prefer the soundtrack but I'll settle on just the artbook.

In motion the animation is kind of annoyingly reminiscent of flash, but I think I could get over it if this game's success means more 2D games. I would do terrible things for a new 2D Mana or SaGa game. Not that I'll get it.

I would do terrible things for a new 2D Mana or SaGa game. Not that I'll get it. The UbiArt Framework apparently works by allowing the artist to import the model and pose it. The program takes care of everything else. It does have that perfect, mechanical tweening you don't see with hand animation but this is probably the best looking 2D game I've seen hands down and it's running at 1080p, 60fps which I don't think anyone else has attempted. Even Vanillaware uses noticeable time-saving techniques like animating appendages separately from the body so some of the character models have that weird "marionette" appearance in motion. The fact they had like 5 dudes working on the game when the first trailer was shown a year ago (and every element in that trailer so far has been present in the current version) shows how amazing the technology is. I really, really hope Ubisoft releases the framework as a free tool so we can see this thing in other artists' hands. I couldn't believe it when Augenblick studios revealed they use Flash for animating their shows because Superjail doesn't show it at all (at least, the first season didn't).

There's a demo up on XBLA/PSN now, it's three levels and they all support co-op! I like that you can choose any of the four characters and make it into Globox Origins if you want.

Just played the Demo and... I liked it but it's a bit silent. I expected alot more music and 90% of the time all's that I heard was the timer chant for the lums. Also controls felt slightly.... off? Didn't stop me from getting all the Electoons though

Okay, the demo secured a buy from me day 1. The $60 price tag was a turn off because so much stuff has come out recently (with Skyward Sword guaranteed to steal the next month of my life) but this is 2D platforming at its finest. I like how the game is still "Rayman hard" even if it doesn't pull gameovers. Getting 350 looms on the first two levels was a decent challenge, then that short little video at the end has Globox doing some wicked jumps in a lava stage. I want Rayman to be successful. I want UbiArt Framework to be successful. gently caress them Rabbids, man.

This game is guaranteed to be lost in the flood of titles coming out this season, which is a loving shame, because the demo feels like the first really great old-school platformer I've played in years outside of the endless Mario rehashes. The soundtrack in particular stood out. It reminded me of the Neverhood, in a way.

Was my demo corrupted or something? I only heard the overworld theme and the timer chant from the king lums, everything else is dead silent and now I'm kinda confused.

Ubisoft has basically said "Buy Rayman Origins or Beyond Good & Evil 2 is dead."

Well, gently caress. This game is gonna bomb (It's being released THE SAME DAY as Assassin's Creed & Saints Row), so I guess BG&E 2 is a no-go. Wonder what Ancel will be up to if that project gets pulled?

Not just the same day as all those but literally a couple of days after new Mario game, which might not be a console title but is almost certain to draw attention/audience away from a similar game. They couldn't have picked a worse time to release it.

Solus posted:What kind of moron at ubisoft wouldnt put this on PC? Maybe they thought that people wouldn't buy it on PC because multiplayer is local-only, or something. Then again, it's better than the usual Ubisoft policy of announcing a simultaneous PC release and then delaying the PC version a couple days before it's supposed to go on sale. Maybe they've got a PC version in the pipeline and are just waiting until it's actually ready before saying anything.

The soundtrack is dynamic apparently, so it adjusts based on what you're doing. I didn't get that impression from the Ubi quote. The quote specifically says that positive recognition could help BG&E2 come out "quicker." That's a no-brainer. I bet they're going to get into it pretty hard just in time for christmas.

The impression I got is that Ubisoft will pull the plug if Origins doesn't sell well. When I read "Other opportunities" I think of that as "working on other projects." They've definitely made a massive push in advertising with a new trailer every week but I think they need to target the casual crowd with TV spots aimed at kids. Being released two days after Mario and six days before Skyward Sword, both of which are cheaper games, isn't doing any favors either.

Cancelled my Skyrim pre-order and switched to Rayman after playing the demo. I've got enough gaming this season without the massive time-sink that is Skyrim, so I'm going to throw some cash Ancel's way. It'll be nice having a game I can play in the presence of my toddler, though the monster at the end of the demo creeped her out.

The way the music stays pretty ambient and dynamically changes in the first level is a lot like Abe's Oddysee/Exoddus, while the other 2 levels have that goofy Neverhood/Skullmonkeys style (both extremely positive similarities).

The demo left me very impressed. But what I want to know, is if most of the levels in the full game are as good and diverse as the 3 levels in the demo. If so, then it is win.
