Am I alone in thinking that The Others have fallen off since "Africa?"

28 Gun Bad Boy posted:A long time to fall then, given Africa was one of their first singles. I'd actually agree but me being me, I'd take it one step further. I've never liked The Others so they never even came up in order to fall, as far as I was concerned, there's was one of the first Dubstep singles I actually went,"No I don't like this. I'm not buying it". I love the minimal vibe of "Africa." The small percussive samples are what do it for me, I think.

28 Gun Bad Boy posted:So what've they done (or not done) recently to make them go off the boil for you? My problem with them first time round is they seemed to be the first of like the straight up Skream/Caspa/Rusko copyists, not really bringing either anything new to the plate, or improving the formula they were working in, and judging from the bits and pieces of what I hear from them nowadays, it's sadly pretty similar. I was always surprised Dub Police signed them up as up until then DP was a really strong, quality label and you knew you were only going to pick up class if you bought something with their name on it. Everything they're dropping now seems really "MTV-ish" and corny, which kind of goes against the aesthetic of dubstep. They seem to have lost their identity to the rise of the younger dubstep market. Once it gets finalized, I'd be more than happy to share a copy. Gotta keep it close to the chest until then though. Here's the rest of the EP. http://soundcloud.com/kosmonot/sets/capsule-life-ep/

HatchetDown posted:This is crazy good. Ya think of sending it to Distance? He always plays underground artists at the beginning of his Rinse mixes and this seems right up his alley. Thanks a bunch man. I've got a lot more on the way. I'd love to send it in to him, but I'm having trouble finding a channel to do so. Any idea where I should go for that? isomerc fucked around with this message at Oct 8, 2011 around 16:44 |

28 Gun Bad Boy posted:I just hope Foul Play Records isn't the same Foul Play as this guy. Reading the guys comments was hilarious at the time though. For some reason anything involving lawsuits or court is always hilarious if the other person is a retard and/or doesn't have a lawyer. It's the same Foul Play. I've been doing business with Prolific for a few years now without a problem. I've heard stories, but my dealings with him have always been very positive.

28 Gun Bad Boy posted:I thought it was okay actually, but his ex-partner in crime Cluekid has definitely been putting out the better work recently. Don't get me wrong. The tune isn't terrible, but I'm never a fan of too much American hip hop influence. I guess I'm a bit of a purist. It seems a bit too "ice rap" for my taste. I did just see Mala and Coki on 36 JBL 18's so I might still be afterglowing from that experience just a bit :P His productions definitely fall in line with the name "Sum Ting New." "Nightmare" is an absolute smasher. Cluekid has been really impressive lately. His work is absolutely mint. I'm still blown away by tracks like "Legacy" and "Grim." Edit: I named my cat Makoto.
