This thread is for discussion of all comic-based movie releases. DC, Marvel, what have you. Include crazy ones like Cowboys & Aliens, which is a terrible comic but might make for a fun movie. Dredd (September 21, 2012) -Based on the Brit comic 2000 AD, the film will follow Judge Dredd as he refuses to remove his helmet. In a post-apocalyptic city, Dredd is training rookie Judge Anderson(Olivia Thirlby) and gets called to a monolithic slum, controlled by drug lord Ma-Ma (Lena Headey). After they capture one of her men, she unleashes a war within the slum that only Dredd can stop. Karl Urban is the man under Judge Dredd's helmet, and it's being directed by (assumed helmetless) Pete Travis. The entire film was screened at comic-con to positive feedback. Trailer And Dredd is the last film for this year! For 2013: Iron Man 3 (May 3, 2013) ![]() -All the old cast from the first 2 return with Shane Black directing. The story is shaping up to be based off the "Extremis" story-line, where after a rash of deaths involving a nanotech "virus" (another super-soldier serum attempt), Tony is called in to help. Ben Kingsley is slated to appear as the villain Mandarin, who is described as "more of a behind-the-scenes kind of villain". Guy Pierce is cast as Aldrich Killian, one of the creators of Extremis. Man of Steel (June 14, 2013) ![]() -Henry Cavill is Superman! Amy Adams will also appear as Lois Lane. Diane Lane and Kevin Costner will play Clark Kent's adoptive Earth parents, while Russell Crowe and Julia Ormond are in talks to be Superman's birth parents. Dwytne Johnson, a returning Channing Tatum and Ray Park, and Adrianne Palicki serve as the remains of GI Joe, as well as Bruce Willis who joins up as the Original G.I. Joe. Big Hero 6 -It's the first planned animated Marvel/Disney film. Based off a team that's an homage to the different genre-heroes of Japan. Two weeks wouldn't be enough to put distance between them? Honestly I'm excited more for Spider-man. That might be just because it's a bigger mystery than Batman, which I'm starting to feel we're going to get reports from nerds on what an actor ate for lunch that day and how that might play into the movie. If anything does get crushed though, I'd suspect Spider-man.

I'm sure Spider-Man will do gangbusters it's opening weekend, unless it gets Green Lantern caliber reviews or something. And yeah, I think Batman in 2 weeks will definitely cut into it's box office in the long run, especially if it's anywhere near the phenomenon that The Dark Knight was. Unless, as Electronico6 said, DKR ends up being horrible. Which I very much doubt it will be.

They shot the stuff he added, but then cut it all out, and wouldn't let him into the editing room, which is a big thing with him. I believe he changed the entire cut of American History X in the edit, in fact. I loved the guy as Banner, but if he's that much of a hassle to work with...Ruffalo will do fine.

I don't give a gently caress what the naysayers say, I enjoyed Green Lantern and would gladly pay see a sequel. I actually liked it better than any of the X-men movies (other than First Class, which I haven't seen), because it was at least openly goofy, whereas with X-men I never had any idea whether it was supposed to serious or hilarious. From what we know about Norton's cut, from interviews and such, it would have had a lot less action focus and a lot more plot. There was the whole arctic suicide with the Captain America cameo that was on the blu ray, and then a lot more stuff with him trying to cure himself and all that. I have a feeling Marvel probably saw what he wanted and freaked the gently caress out at the possibility of a repeat of Ang Lee's movie, and that's why they didn't go with what he wanted. I honestly think they were probably right, although I would like to see an extended cut just to see that footage.

Something about the holocaust and dudes running around in capes just doesn't go together at all, it's like having Indiana Jones liberate a concentrate camp, the difference in tone is just too much. Superhero comics have never been particularly great at addressing social issues in a direct way. It's hard to take any attempt at such seriously when most female superheroes wear stripper outfits with bodies to match, among other things. Despite things like X-men addressing racism indirectly, both Marvel and DC have had issues with race at times as well.
