I really still don't get why Robert Zemeckis thinks this style is so cool. I guess as a director he always has kinda been more show-offy than good.
Are we talking about the same Zemeckis?

He has previously directed:

Contact
Forrest Gump

Back to the Future Part II
Who Framed Roger Rabbit
Back to the Future

Maybe recently he's been into this kind of technology, but I think you're down-right wrong otherwise.

I mean, I'm not a diehard fan of Tintin, but, what's wrong with this trailer? As mentioned, Tintin himself is a weeeee bit too close to uncanny valley, but, everything else about this looks fantastic.

Well, first I should say that I actually think it looks good, though I do think the mannequin-esque faces are going to... not be an asset to the movie. It's mostly that Herge basically created an entire school of cartooning from whole cloth and this movie does nothing to acknowledge that heritage visually. That would certainly be excusable for a live-action adaptation, but this is an animated film and they could've made it look and move like anything they wanted. Imagine American comics like Krazy Kat or Calvin & Hobbes having their formidable visual legacies thrown out in favor of mocap spectacle - some people would just never be able to accept that.

It also looks a bit... bombastic for Tintin, but it's harder to judge the tone without seeing the movie.

To be fair, Zemeckis' reputation has been that of an effects-first whiz bang guy since the 80s. Which isn't to say that he hasn't made some good movies, because he has.

I think it'll work for Tintin. Herge rarely went nuts with his storytelling, but if you think about it, he drew blockbustery stuff a lot.

We've had the discussion on Tintin's visuals in the animation thread. Someone won me over with the argument that his people were simple but everything else was a bit more realistic, so the movie fitting that style was fine.

Of course we never actually got to see Tintin's face until now so whoever made that argument had better find a new one because that is not a face I think I want to watch for 2 hours.

I'm going to assume that many readers of this thread frequent Batman On Film, or have in the past, for Bat news...so I figure I'd post this here.

I've been reading BOF since Begins came out back in '05 (it was around this time that I found SA and lurked for a year), and I used to really enjoy reading the site. Lately though, it seems as if "Jett" has sort of bought into himself a little much. He has basically gone nuts trying to be anti-fanboy over the years.....and in turn has seemingly become what he mocks (i.e. a major holier than thou complex), and just generally comes off as a terrible WB kiss-rear end/shill. Am I alone in this opinion?

Regardless, I'm excited for the trailer.

I completely agree.

http://www.batman-news.com is similar but doesn't have as much of Jett's crap (though I have a feeling that their spoiler policy is very slightly more relaxed than BOF's).

Really liked the Thompson falling down the stairs gag in the Tintin trailer (the cat hanging on with its claws was great) until they had Snowy do the loving "dog is embarassed, hides its face under its paw" bit from every lovely trailer ever.

Hey, don't get me wrong, I like the Back to the Future films as much as the next guy. But when presented with the option of doing something nuanced or doing something ridiculously in-your-face, he'll go with the latter every time.

Also, Contact, What Lies Beneath, Cast Away, and Forrest Gump all blow. So does Beowulf. I just looked at his IMDB page and I forgot that he did Death Becomes Her, which kicked rear end. So yeah, he's got about five movies I like and a lot more that I don't, and the last one of the former was in 1992. Sorry, but his name does not fill me with a lot of confidence.

Very cool poster. Surprised they went with crumbling buildings for the teaser, after Inception. Or maybe that was the intent.

If you follow the link to the large size picture, I think it's purposely an optical illusion. It seems like they designed it to look like crumbling buildings at first, but a second look reveals a pit.

My favorite part is the color scheme, which I really hope is indicative of the actual film. The official logo shown at some event recently had a purple glow, so I was worried they would just copy the blue, steel motif of The Dark Knight. The colors in the poster are very similar to Inception's black and gray/smokey white visuals, which I think creates a fitting sense of dark vs light for the final chapter of the series. They also seem to have carried over the urban decay motif from Inception, but that's also very fitting for Gotham's final battle. I know I'm reading too much into it, but for me this isn't just the next Batman film. It's the next Nolan film. I can't wait to see what he and Wally Pfister create together.

Wha? No, it's definitely crumbling building. I mean I guess in a literal sense it's a "pit" of crumbling buildings, but the only optical illusion here is the bat logo.

But hey, it's Batman. I'm sure before this page is full we'll get a theory or two about how the black in the poster is a nod to black mask, or maybe a blown-up image of what's obviously Killer Croc peering out one of the windows.

No, it's just poorly made. Half the rubble is floating away from the buildings to help the illusion and half of it is falling down from the empty sky.

You think it's a pit because it's execution is sloppy, not because it's meant to be a pit.

Who wants to play video games?

Welp. Let the speculation begin. (As if it hadn't already started)

The Dark Knight Rises trailer description. Spoilered for anyone that wants to see it for the first time this Friday.

http://www.aintitcool.com/node/50347

quote:

-Trailer opens with studio logos set on top of the blue flame from Dark Knight.

Start panning up some buildings, but cut to the screen card: EVERY HERO HAS A JOURNEY.

Cuts to a shot from Begins with Bruce walking up to that Village when he's looking for Ra's

Screen Card: EVERY HERO HAS AN END

Ra's (Liam Neeson) voice over: "If you make yourself more then just a man. If you devout yourself to be ideal. And you become something else entirely. A legend Mr. Wayne....A LEGEND!"

Screen Card: THE EPIC CONCLUSION

Cut to Gordon in a hospital bed laying on his side. Looks to be in serious pain. Has A breathing mask on. He is talking to someone.

Gordon: "We were in this together, then you were gone.......Now this Evil rises. The Batman.....HAS to come back." (all this is said in a very raspy voice, in much pain)

Bruce/Batman(its not shown who he's talking to, so don't know in which form Bruce is visiting him in. My guess would be as Bruce Wayne) : "What if he doesn't exist anymore?"

This part is the hardest to understand in the entire trailer, I listened to it at least 10 times but the score is over powering here and Gordon is having trouble talking. It sounds as if he says, "Humor me," while trying to laugh. I might be wrong here, full disclosure.

During this quick talk we're shown a shot of the bat cycle when it drives up the ramp from Dark Knight, Gordon destroying the Act Signal all cut in with the Hospital. As well as super fast flashes of Bane's face.

Pan up crumbing buildings to reveal the Teaser Poster, the camera zooms to the white opening and on an all white screen the title appears. The score reaches a fever pitch before turning over to The chanting from the website.

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

Fades to black and then we see Batman backing away from something, then Bane enters from the left side of the screen. Very quick shot then the trailers done.
