Ugh I really HATE the idea of superhero reboots and we got two coming next year with Spider-Man and Superman. It's not so much as I loved their worlds (I'm sort of ambivalent), but I don't want to go through origins. They're so boring and they're all the same with a character learning to live with his powers, I want ten years into a superhero's life where he's already awesome, but at the same time he can still be human. I think Thor is the only superhero type film that starts out with the hero who doesn't have to learn to use powers or build a suit and train. He's already awesome and a god and all. I guess the X-Men films may also fall into this category but they too have new members who are learning. Also regarding Spider-Man I really don't want high school drama Spider-Man, I hated those scenes in the last Spider-Man movies.

Yeah Superman I would be less worried about but Spiderman good god I don't want to see the origin anymore. Just begin the movie with Spiderman going "Hey it's me Spiderman! You know who I am so lets get down to business."

That's the problem with portrayals of Superman in general. It's hard to challenge a guy that's entirely virtuous and only has one contrived weakness. What you could do is give him a problem that can't be solved with Superpowers, but that defeats the reason people follow Superman to begin with, I guess. Man of Steel seems to be going a little in that direction by setting part of the movie in Africa, if the leaked synopsis is real.

I'd imagine there's going to be some kind reboot for Superman since they're going to want to distance themselves from Donner/Singer.

I'm excited about Captain America. You see, I've got an 8 year old son. We see all the super-hero movies and he always gets to wear a costume to the movie. Some examples, and one from last weekend... ![]() ![]() Batman, Indiana Jones, Spider-Man, whatever. He gets a lot of attention and loves it. It's just more fun for him (and me too honestly) Anyway, his Captain America costume is going to be incredible. Here is my shopping list.. Anakin Starwars gloves, Cap bodysuit, shield, and WWII kids helmet. ![]() When I get all that, I'll paint the helmet matching blue (with the A) and add some real leather pouches. He's already got the perfect boots.

Not sure Zack Snyder is that director though.

I'm kind of curious what they're going to do with Spiderman. I think everybody is kind of Spiderman'd out though - and with Dark Knight Rises coming two weeks afterwards, I think Spiderman is going to be on the lower end of the box office groses. Hopefully the Superman movie can do the character justice. I think Snyder's a good pick for director.

Yeah for Green Lantern, I already voiced my opinion that the movie met my low expectations, and ended up being not a good movie. I'm ambivalent towards a GL sequel, despite generally liking Johns' GL run, because I think sequels are something that needs to be earned after "winning" the audience over with the first movie. I bought a ticket for the first movie despite knowing it was probably going to not be good, and I don't want to defend its existence merely because a sequel would probably be better. I like seeing bad movies tank at the box office. Also, I hate how origin movies are being defended on grounds that they are indeed the origin and the origin simply needs to be told. Why not give the audience some credit and assume they can infer the backstory? Or simply do a fancy origin montage in the opening credits like in the Incredible Hulk? And simply that they're holding back on these movies a bit too much for sequels (with the obvious teasing) makes me feel like I'm watching a glorified TV show rather than a movie.

That's why I like how Morrison writes Superman. His Superman isn't defined by his superpowers but rather how much he loves mankind and that he would sacrifice himself in a blink of an eye to save it. It's also a good reason to have Darkseid as a villain because he can't be defeated by the use of superpowers alone. In JLU it is Luthor who defeats him with his brains and in Final Crisis he's defeated by Superman wishing for a happy ending.

Oh really? I thought I'd been keeping up with developments as they got announced and stuff, I must have missed that. So the entire film might be them finding him and then Nick Fury explaining to Stark or whatever who this guy was, how he got made and the events leading up to the super secret mission that ended with him being frozen? That sounds pretty great to me.

Oh god imagine if they take the scene where he wakes up from Ultimates and use that as the finale for Captain America. Where he wakes up and freaks out thinking it's a Nazi trick, punches out Nick Fury, takes down a load of Shield agents, runs out and sees New York in 2012 (since I doubt they'll do Helicarriers) and then turns around and we see all 5 of the other Avengers are standing ready to take him down and then it cuts to the credits.

It was a lot longer than 15 minutes, or at least it felt that way. Superman: The Movie is great once they get to metropolis and there's no good reason it should have taken an hour. Save Zod's trial for a flashback in the movie where he matters, pare down the techno-babble about why his superpowers work, skip the books on tape he listened to as an infant, and the last thing a Superman movie needs is a sequence where the football team acts like a dick to Clark.
