Why would we charge a buy-in on an inhouse event? Wouldn't we want as many goons to show up as possible? I could see charging outsiders but why guildies/friendlies?

If its a matter of 'the incantation carrier should get paid as opposed to selling it off' a more elegant solution is to just give him a drop, unless we can't trust people in-house.

I could be in the wrong here, but a couple reasons come to mind.

It's still a rare item that's worth 40+ defense. Any goon that has a character powerful enough to actually help out in O2 can surely cough up 1 or 2 pots to offset part of the value of the item. Most people (yes, even goons) simply turn around and sell this item because of the risk vs reward of running a free run.

Guaranteeing the Inc holder a drop is also very, very messy and doesn't really work once you consider the items that O2 can drop vary from a couple def pots in value all the way up to 60-80 def pots. How do you determine what item the Inc holder gets? The item that isn't worth anything? The item that goes to his main character?

If it's the first, that's just adding insult to injury to the Inc holder if he didn't actually get any drop himself. "Sorry dude, here's a T5 huntress trap to make up for the fact that all you got was an attack pot."

If it's the second option it becomes even more unfair for everyone involved. Whatever non-wizard character has to give me their Grand Sorc or Cosmic is going to be really, really pissed. Some classes have drops worth much more than other classes.

The simplest solution is for the Inc holder to just make a small donation at the door. I'm not asking for the entire 40+ def worth of value that I would get if I tried to sell the thing on the market tomorrow. But 20-25 def would definitely help me if I'm the guy that ends up with crappy drops from O2, and having to pay one def pot to run a dungeon that most people in the game will never encounter is a fair price to ask for.

Soma covered it well, and I agree with what he said, Ill just add that if anyone is desperate to go, has a decent character, but cant get a def pot or two Ill cover them until they can pay me back.

For the most part people who are up for going will be able to cover this cost I would guess.

Okay, the WC run is going to be next Saturday (March 17th) sometime between 10am-6pm MDT (GMT-7 for you Euro folk). I'm guessing 11am would work best for everyone since it's morning for west coast, afternoon for east coast, and early evening for our Euro pals. Post in the thread if the time works for you and if it doesn't we can move it around a bit, although I think Saturday will work best for most people.

Buy-in is going to be 1-2 def pots depending on number of people that show up. We'll hopefully have some experienced people (FnMoron, you and some guild mates would be very welcome to come along if you are available) since most of us Mad Goons don't know how the fight works and could use some help ensuring a smooth run where everyone has a chance to get damage in for a sweet, sweet chance at loot drops.

I'll update this post with a list of people interested so we have a decent headcount.

3) ProHere
4) BRAWW

I probably don't want to do it this weekend--I think I should get some more practice not-dying on Oryx 1--but if you were to do it again in a couple weeks I would certainly be down. Even then, if I feel up to it I'll post by Thursday letting you know if I want to buy in.

That item is worth quite a bit and going into WC doesn't assure a drop. I see no problem throwing the inc holder a bone. And honestly it works the other way around as well: for the price of a few def pots you get a shot at items that are worth 50+ def.

Worth it in my opinion.

I wonder how you make sure you don't get alot of silly pubbies in there though. Or doesn't that matter too much since Oryx2 will most likely blow them away anyway?

We'll try to find a very underpopulated server with a realm that has 5-10 newbies in it. At that point we just have to close the realm quickly and then run through Oryx, and wait to open up Oryx2 until after any of the pubbies have already recalled out.

Edit - VVVV - That works too. Most people leave as soon as they don't see a bag, so we'd probably only have to wait a minute until it was just us.

Just go to a realm that's halfway full and let them clear it as normal. People usually don't hang around for too long after Oryx is dead and everyone's done looking through the crap people have dropped and asking "why is tihs door lock?"

e. Although I guess if there's 30 goons standing around people might not leave.

Waiting around until they leave from O1 won't work, as the WC portal has a timer (~2 minutes? People usually stay longer then that too.)

No, what we'll do is we go on a low populated server (UsSouth3 late-night, EuNorth2, etc). From there on, we try to find a low populated realm (~20-30). Once we find one, we try to see if there's anyone that could possibly be a WC crasher (Someone in a big guild, level 20 wiz/rogue/assassin's are the main threat thought.) If there is not a lot of 'treaths' to the WC, we look for a realm that is close to closing (No cube god, no skull shrine.) Next, we clear it and wait for O1. Once we get into the Castle, we all /pause and let the noobs try to clear it by themselves. Most of the time, they won't be able to and most of them will die or nexus. If they're making progress, welp, we have to kill them all (harsh world maties ) by dragging brutes, minions, etc into them. If a Level 20 with decent items isn't really dieing, we can always try the pacifist route and pm him to ask him if he could leave after O1. Most will agree, thought there are some assholes. Then we clear the castle, make our way to O1, kill him. Now, once we're in the WC, since I believe this will be a organized run and not a ffa, we should all clear the minions(1) and make our way towards O2. Once we clear out all the minions on the main passages to him, we stop at the ..room before oryx(2) to group up, heal, and well.. we'll see how Freesoma takes it from there on.

WC MAP:
1=clear minions
2=stop here

I'd recommend we all take shots (take turns going at him) at Oryx, try doing ~1k dmg to get soulbound and then let the next person go. Then, once he stops with his minions (He'll say 'can't keep up with my henchmen!' or something cheezy.) he'll start rushing around, and then we could go into FFA mode. Also, this would be 100 times easier to run if we're all in teamspeak.

Agreed with just about everything you said. Since our start time will probably be 10-11am MDT we might have a good shot at an Asia realm that won't have anyone really online.

We'll need most everyone to be in the teamspeak, even if they don't have mics, since it will be a million times easier to communicate during the fight to ensure that everyone gets a shot at soulbound damage. This is where BRAWW and some others that have run WC multiple times will help out; the only time I ran WC was a giant public lagfest with zero organization. I'll probably need your help coordinating the actual O2 fight so it goes smoothly.

How that gun even works underwater I don't know, but I bet the answer is magic.

what am I meant to do after I hit level 20? By this point my archers typically have an Ironwood bow and a +9-12 armor, but this seems insufficient to really get kills in the godzone unless I find a fluke 1v1 and when I go into random dungeons I can't seem to do enough damage to get any drops for fear of getting killed. I would guess I should do the lower level quests but these are always replaced by cube gods or such so I can't find them.

I would keep farming the godlands in groups until you can find a firebow, doublebow or heavy crossbow which should help your dps out a lot. People often also discard these because they can't really be sold. Alternatively, ask in teamspeak for a better bow and someone might have one to give you, or if you find a speed potion trade it to someone for a gold bow.

Count FootChar in for the WC run. Assuming I have a suitable character at the time. Just how hard is the Winecellar anyways?

Also WhiteSkark, hop on TeamSpeak and talk to goons even if you don't have a mic. Me personally, I have 2 golden bows kicking around and would be happy to give you one. Most goons are pretty generous with items. As for fear of dying, you'll have to get use to that. Bind Nexus to a nearby key and be ready to press it if you're taking too many hits or even if the situation looks like it might turn bad. As for the damage? You'll be fine. You can take level 10s into the Godlands with bad gear and still pickoff Gods one by one. Just stay the hell away from pubbies. They'll drag Gods from multiple directions at once and get everyone killed. Wander away on your own, fight gods one at a time, and keep your health up. At this point your game will be collecting stat potions and getting better gear from Godlands and Oryx runs.

I'm in for this assuming I'm on when you run it. Saturday is St Patrick's Day and I have plans for later so I can't give a 100% assurance at being there.

When's the sword buff supposed to go in? As fun as a paladin is it's too easy to die since so many enemies shotgun and the slightly higher hp/def a paladin gets doesn't mean a whole lot when you're having to get right up close and personal.

I switch back and forth depending on what I'm doing. I have a tendency to get confused as to which direction the threats on my minimap are coming from if I rotate around too much, so I usually stick to a centered view unless I have threats coming from a specific direction.

Hey. I've somehow become supreme leader and iron fist of the Mad Goons. What this means is that we're having a membership purge. I've already kicked out 6 people who I've never seen, and I will be kicking out more over the next couple weeks in order to try and get a core membership that is actually active. There's nothing personal if you do get kicked, just that I haven't seen you online, so if you holler at me in game or one of our members with invitational powers (all of them, pretty much) then you can get your spot back. Now what I do want is for people who feel that they may be in danger of getting kicked for inactivity to contact me, either by PM here, or IM on Steam or just by hopping in Teamspeak. Another thing that I want is for the membership of the guild to actually adventure and communicate together. Doing your own thing is cool by me, but if none of us ever see you, you don't use guild chat, and you're not on teamspeak then your membership doesn't actually confer any benefits to you or us. So I encourage all of you to make USEast3 your primary server (though we've been known to go poo poo up other servers due to boredom and lag) and to use Teamspeak whenever possible, and to communicate on the guild channel when you cannot use teamspeak. If you're farming gods, share the locations of dungeon entrances. If a realm is about to close, let people know. If you have gear of moderate value that you're just throwing out or leaving behind, see if someone with storage space can pass it on to other goons. Finally, if you're burned out on the game and not playing, let me know, or even better just leave the guild yourself. I'm going to try and not fill the guild to max capacity instantly, so that we can keep the membership fluid with those who are most active at any given time by accepting applications from those who are coming back from breaks or are new and showing enthusiasm. On that note, a single post in here saying "Hey, I like this game, can someone shoot me an invite. IGN is FlyByNight." is not going to cut it. We're not looking for pro players, but our spots are limited, so if you want membership you should make an effort to meet and play with the core group at least a couple times a week for enough time for us to get to know you and your name. If you're hanging out, you'll get in as soon as we find space. If not, you'll get kicked or can just do your own solo thing and the only thing you'll be missing is a guild title next to your name. Hopefully this more active organization will make it easier to track each other by our green dots and have more fun crushing the denizens of the Realm.

tl;dr MadGoons is going through some changes. If you're active, make sure we know it and you'll keep/get membership.
