Am I reading it wrong or does that graph say it's easier to get out of poverty in Turkey than in the US?

Well, having a senate with equal state representation only really makes sense if individual states have a meaningful level of independence from the federal government and different issues than other states. That still applies a little, but I kindof agree that the senate is unnecessary nowadays. And besides, I feel it doesn't make any sense at all if the senators are popularly elected, seeing as how they're supposed to be representatives of the state, and not the general population.

Office Sheep posted:I hate when the Y axis is shown like this even when it agrees with my ideology. Might as well show it as delta Y and imply the opposite point as this graph is trying to make. What's the problem, that it has 2 measures for the two lines? Also, everyone knows this is just Obummer and his leftist muslim buddies expanding federal programs to steal hardworking murricans' tax money. Duh.

j4on posted:Lots of information, but the most dramatic part, the web of "influence" lines invading across the entire united states, seems a bit dubious. It doesn't seem possible to measure, nor is it explained, nor does it seem likely they have enough data points to draw those lines. Doesn't pass the smell test either: why would cities like New York and Chicago have less / later influence than the middle of kansas? Maybe it's supposed to be distribution operations? I imagine the cartels aren't really involved, or not the same parts of the cartel, in actually selling the drugs to their final users. It seems plausible that there's a significant distribution operation based in Kansas, but not really in New York.

Probably to have a clearer contrast between the spending patterns of the poor, middle class and rich, and because those brackets are some of the clearest examples of poor, middle class and rich. Not the most academic graph, but it still is a good refutation of the idea that poor people are poor because they spend all their money on frivolities and can't manage their finances.
