Adobe are also still working on a migration tool to make the process easier. I wish that tool existed years ago and I could have the time back that I spent migrating my Aperture library to Lightroom, but c'est la vie.

New Macbook Air. iTunes music library stored on a class 10 SD card. Music playback in iTunes is sometimes choppy or skips. Playback is fine in VLC. Why? How can I fix?

Heran Bago posted:New Macbook Air. iTunes music library stored on a class 10 SD card. VLC maybe buffers more. VLC is optimized for people doing poo poo like watching HD movies over slow networks so it buffers quite a lot. Are you doing other I/O to the SD card that might block iTunes request? That's my only real theory sorry. defaults write com.apple.iTunes file-buffer-size looks to be a thing but who knows what kind of values it takes... Maybe check out what's written there now, if anything.

Mercurius posted:Adobe published a guide on moving from Aperture to Lightroom a couple weeks back: http://landing.adobe.com/dam/downloads/whitepapers/54511.en.switch-from-aperture-to-lightroom.pdf I love that their method to maintain edits is to export TIFF files containing all the Aperture edits and use those as originals. Yay non-destructive edits. It's not like Aperture is going to suddenly stop working. Hell, how long did we go without an update before Apple officially announced its death? I'm playing with the Lightroom demo now and will probably put new stuff in Lightroom and keep the old stuff in Aperture until Adobe or someone comes up with a better migration path. Or until Aperture stops working and I need to pull the raw files out of the Aperture data file and add them without modifications to Lightroom. Now do I buy Lightroom as one of the few applications you can buy from Adobe, or pony up for the full CC? I currently have an educational CS5 license but it isn't even eligible to get me the intro "cheaper for previous buyers of CS" deal.

Anyone happen to have a betacoin they're not using for mailbox? The public beta released today. EDIT: I got one. Looks pretty nice on OSX. I like the iOS app a lot, and really haven't found a great mail client, but this might be it. Slamma Jamma! fucked around with this message at 20:17 on Aug 19, 2014 |

I don't get it, what is so special about this new client? I just use Mail.app on my desktop and the default mail readers on iOS and Android. But mostly desktop, because I'm not usually out and about when I'm reading my mail.

Lexicon posted:Mail.app on Mavericks specifically has a long documented history of not working correctly with Gmail. Regarding Mailbox, does it support Exchange (preferably EWS but ActiveSync would work I guess) on OS X? Hardly any (if any) of the mail apps that've come out for OS X recently actually support Exchange at all and I really don't need another bespoke, artisanal handcrafted mobile email client if it only supports POP/IMAP.

Lots of people complain (here and drat near anywhere else they can on the Internet) that it doesn't sync correctly, messages show up hours later, etc. I don't experience those symptoms with any of my Gmail accounts on Mail.app or Mail.ipa, but won't discount that many people bitching about it. It's not really a discussion worth revisiting, nor is the "you're using email wrong/inbox zero" debate that happens every time Mailbox gets brought up in an iOS thread. A few more here: http://qte.me/1ocXuio [edit for content] I like Mailbox because I can seamlessly manage around a dozen (of my own and client/test) gmail accounts, snooze to lists, auto-swipe stuff I need to archive but don't need to read and the integration with Dropbox. [edit two] After you redeem, set up, they will start sending you more as your coins are used by others. Neat system. pipebomb fucked around with this message at 13:34 on Aug 20, 2014 |

The Milkman posted:Well, what exactly is the advantage? You know all those To Do list apps that fail - how most people stop putting in their 'To Do's over time? They just can't be arsed. Mailbox is basically using your mail to work as your 'To Do' content. You acknowledge the mail, save it for later (notifications), add it to lists so you can check up on it one day, or get rid of it. It's the best interface solution to whittling down your emails so you don't have so many to juggle. If you don't get many emails then it's not going to be for you.

I remembered that I should probably go into mail.google.com to clean up my two inboxes. Find: in:inbox Select all Select every message that matches Archive OK to bulk move operation Then a restart of Mailbox, and it congratulates me for my first 0. Maybe I would get more mail daily if I didn't have all that promotional crap and mailing list stuff going to labeled folders and auto archiving. Too bad I don't read any of it.

I was wrong about most of those promotionals. There were NewEgg and Amazon, which I unsubscribed from. But the majority of the archived mail comes from the Linux Kernel mailing list, the OpenWrt mailing list, and the Nouveau mailing list. Which I should unsubscribe from, because I don't really participate there any more.
