Cmd-Q is precariously close to Cmd-W, and Apple's preferred "reopen last closed tabs" is a poor substitute for a quit warning when you've got a tab with text entered, or are using a stageful web app. I don't know how to add a warning, but you can change Cmd-Q to something else in the Keyboard preference pane. Apple support's instructions. I use it to make Cmd-V in Apple Mail always match formatting.

Has anybody used Parallels 10? I'm currently on 9 and I'm wondering if it's worth the upgrade; I mostly use it to play games and occasionally access Windows-only resources at work.

With Parallels versions you really have to ask yourself "is there something about the current version that I'm dissatisfied with AND that is fixed in the next version?" Usually the only pressing reason to upgrade is to get support for new guest OS versions since they're notoriously stingy about backporting fixes. If you're currently fine then there isn't much of a reason to upgrade, but there's always a free trial available if you just positively have to see for yourself and can back up your VMs.

Well it sounds like it's not really worth it then. I only upgraded from 7 to 9 because of Mavericks and I probably won't be upgrading to Yosemite until I have to for Adobe or Davinci updates.

This has pretty much been my experience and as such I've given up on seeing any of this functionality in September, not the biggest deal now that they have disabled the SMS features and that's all I ever wanted. I'm still hoping for a tiny chance they enable some of them back when they officially release iOS 8 on Friday.

What's the current hotness for activating side mouse buttons as back/fwd in Safari history, etc? SteerMouse? I don't mind if it's a pay product. I connected my G700 to my Mini. I was going to buy a touchpad but at this point I may as well stuck with the G700 if I can get the buttons working.

I've switched to a magic mouse on my laptop so haven't used SteerMouse in 10.10 yet but it always worked well for mapping my buttons for games. I believe you can get them working with BetterTouchTool, but it has been a while since I've tried, I just remember it not being suited for my needs.

Previous versions had their share of problems, but the current version works perfectly fine in my experience. Though the surface tuning function for the G502 doesn't work with SmoothMouse (which I consider required for using a mouse on OS X) enabled, but disabling it to run the tuning and then re-enabling it worked fine.

If your Logitech mouse is one of the few that are actually programmable, you can temporarily install Logitech Gaming Software, then program the back and forward buttons to actuate Cmd+[/]. Of course, then you're hosed if you ever want to use them for anything else, like say back and forward navigation in Windows.
