Abel Wingnut posted:Also, why does iTunes sort numeric entries last yet OS X sort numeric entries first? I want my 10cc at the top of my library, damnit. Didn't see anyone reply to you on the page you posted this on, and I'm catching up with the thread still. In iTunes you can right click on any file(s) and go to sorting. Sort the artist by 010cc and that will put it on top of the numbers. Frankly, I go with "Ten CC" (if I had that artist), or anything similar with any number-named bands.

I have a question about Lion that is also somewhat hardware related, so I think I'm going to cross post this. My CEO has the newest MacBook Pro, and he uses it in the office. At his desk he has an external monitor that he hooks up to his computer, and he uses that instead. Before Lion he would power up the computer, close the screen to get the image on the second monitor, and then open the screen a bit for "ventilation". I don't know how much of this is true, but he's afraid of it overheating with the screen closed entirely. However, with Lion just opening the monitor slightly wakes up that display. He doesn't want two monitors, but is also afraid of heat death of the computer. Is there a way to turn off the MacBook Pro's screen? Right now the solution is to change the arrangement, and put the menu bar on top of the Samsung monitor, but when you put the Dock at the bottom of the screen it goes to the bottom of the MacBook's screen, under the external, in a monitor that's only open at a 15 degree angle. I had to put his dock on the left of the screen, which he dislikes. I need to restore this to it's default behavior of turning off the Macbook's screen when the external monitor is plugged in. Another question would be if I turned on display mirroring, would it use the higher-res of the Samsung monitor? If it mirrors with black space that doesn't help either.

Kobayashi posted:This isn't a Lion problem per se, but my iTunes library seems to be partially messed up. I have a few albums that are munged and show as different albums. Has anyone seen anything like this before? Is there anything I can do to fix it? Selecting "Get Info" doesn't seem to help. I guess I am wondering if there is a way to force iTunes to re-analyze a few tracks, but without removing them from the database and starting over. I'm a bit late on this, but when this happens you select the whole album and get info. Make sure the Artist and Album field are showing the name. If they are, then they're the same. But sometimes you have to add a space after either one of those to in order to fix it. "Muse" to "Muse ", etc. And then back again. It's fixed it every time for me. Also, click on Album, then again, then one more time to sort by Artist by year of album release.

On the other hand, I've never had iTunes stop playing for music for me for something less than something that lead to a kernel panic. If my computer locks up but doesn't kernel panic usually the music will play without skipping until the end of the track for me until control is restored and iTunes loads up the next track. So in my opinion (also using Time Machine, on an USB drive) it doesn't sound right.

Can anyone confirm that internet sharing is fixed when they get this installed? Right now I use a SIP hardphone at the office, and bring it home for Saturdays. It uses DHCP to connect to whatever it's plugged into, and if DHCP is still broken in Lion's Internet Sharing then I might have to put off upgrading to Lion even longer.

Other programs use it, and you can have customizable alerts appear on your screen for a few seconds, or until you click them away. I keep Transmission running in another Space, so it's nice to have a popup when a torrent finishes seeding to the ratio I specified, or when the download finished. Don't worry, I'm going to run it on a copy of the library first. In the File menu there is a "Display Duplicates" option. Usually the best way is to select this, sort the columns in some way that makes sense to you, and then select and delete.

So not sure if this is a hardware question or not, considering it wouldn't be Apple hardware. My mother has a MacBook Pro, and she has an external hard drive plugged into it for her Time Machine backups. However, she uses the computer at a couch, not a desk, so she has two cables coming out to the side for her backups and her power. I would like to get her untethered from that backup drive at the very least. Also, their wireless router has problems with the DHCP, so I was thinking about replacing it. So I was wondering if there was a (preferably Linksys, since that's what I'm most comfortable setting up) router that can connect to her Time Machine drive, share it over the network, and let her back up. I'd prefer to not buy her a Time Machine, but rather just replace the router and have her just use her existing backup. So I guess I need: A new router. One that has an USB port. That can read Mac disks. And can act as a Time Machine network hub. Is this possible? If so, are there any recommendations?

It also changes the filename to "## SONG TITLE.mp3", where the ## is the track number. I'm thinking it's the latter but either way it's beyond frustrating. 192.168.2.* is an internal IP given to you by your router. All the computers/IP devices in your home have that rang. However, to someone like me, trying to contact you through your modem, we use the 65.* number to first go to your modem. Then it goes to your router, and it's up to that to figure out which computer the data goes to. You can specify this by saying "anything on this port goes to 192.168.2.50, which is my gaming rig".

Speaking of Flash on Mac, does anyone else have the problem where the mouseover stuff doesn't work? On Youtube I have to click on the speaker icon to get the volume slider to show, can't see the time I'm hovering over on the time bar, and other small things. This happens on different sites' video players as well. And on Google Maps, I can't turn the camera in street view, or turn the compass to change the angle as well. I've uninstalled the plugin via their installer, and it seemed to fix it for about a day. I'm up to date (and recently I downloaded the update from adobe.com since this whole flashback thing), but it was only fixed when I reinstalled it that one time. I believe I tried to uninstall it by going into App Support and looking for the Flash files there too.
